- The Taupō Trout Diaries- Episode 19
14th July 2022
A series of videos of trout caught in the Taupō District, New Zealand.
Today after arriving for a weeks stay I decide to head down to the Silly Pool on the Tongariro river. It is a good 30 minute hike including the ""Steep"" part of the track. I want to head back in summer when the water is lower.
Catch and release , lovely well conditioned trout , released to fight another day .
I love coming down to Taupō
I was using a bomber hare and copper and orange glo bug under that, on a floating line . Weight 6 Primal fly rod .
Thanks for watching my trout fishing videos , I enjoy fly and spin fishing,

@@TaupoTroutSlayer Thank you very mutch... have a nice Weekend.... see you….
Well done 👏
Do you have to go past the Kamahi pool and head south?
Cheers Craig
I crossed over at the red hut bridge and walked north to it - you could also walk south from major jones bridge to - thanks for your question and watching - many thanks 🙏
Silly pool is way way above Kamahi look here www.tongarirorivermotel.co.nz/fifty-pools-to-fish-before-you-die/
You ever fish waiotak and waimarino?
Nope, down at xmas and wanting to get out to some of those other rivers including Whakapapa
Hey a question only..... I was taught to always walk with the reel pointing forward at my hand and the tip of the rod behind me, this avoids possibility of snapping a tip......... you don't believe this or just dont bother? I have never fished the silly pool, very keen now, i went up from red pool and located the next 3 - 4 pools during lockdown before they let us fish, was doing about 10km a day just exploring rive as was not working, i have a lot of videos so i can find paths.
When I carry it behind me it gets caught in branches and stuff behind me . So I just have it facing forward now, thanks for watching
I’ll probably break my rod at some stage carrying it like I do -everything I do is self taught . Thanks for watching 😀
