From Wikipedia:
Hampton (/ˈhæmp tən/) is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 137,438; in 2019, it was estimated to be 134,510. Hampton is included in the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Statistical Area (officially known as the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC MSA) which is the 37th largest in the United States, with a total population of 1,729,114. This area, known as "America's First Region", also includes the independent cities of Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk, as well as other smaller cities, counties, and towns of Hampton Roads.
Hampton traces its history to the city's Old Point Comfort, the home of Fort Monroe for almost 400 years, which was named by the 1607 voyagers, led by Captain Christopher Newport, who first established Jamestown as an English colonial settlement. Since consolidation in 1952, Hampton has included the former Elizabeth City County and the incorporated town of Phoebus, consolidated by a mutual agreement.
After the end of the American Civil War, historic Hampton University was established opposite from the town on the Hampton River, providing an education for many newly-freed former slaves and for area Native Americans. In the 20th century, the area became the location of Langley Air Force Base, NASA Langley Research Center, and the Virginia Air and Space Center. Hampton features many miles of waterfront and beaches.
The city features a wide array of business and industrial enterprises, retail and residential areas, historical sites, and other points of interest, such a NASCAR short track, the oldest Anglican parish in the Americas (1610), and a moated, six-sided, historical bastion fort.
I love this. Driving videos used to come on Channel 38.1 but cant find them anymore. I'm happy to have found this.
Glad you like them!
We stayed at the Hampton Marina Hotel for a while this past summer during the COVID right off of the bridge next to NASA. Nice hotel . Historical area and feeling.
The apartments complex at 101 W. Pembroke is not there any more? I lived in Hampton from 1979-83, some of the streets in Old Hampton, I do remember, but many things have changed.
Oh- man, That makes me sad. My grandmother lived in those apartments when I was a kid and when I was a teenager. I don't remember the apartment number, which was letters. Great Memories. All one had to do with travel three miles from those apartments on W. Pembroke ave and be at Buckroe Beach. In the 1960's I remember the fun, rides, games, etc., then later became more like a park. I also experience my first jellyfish, those things hurt. :-) Wow being there during 1979-83, I might have even come across you. Small world.
I was stationed at Langley AFB from 83 til 87. I lived the first year in the South Hampton Apartments off of Kecoughtan Rd. Moved to Poquoson for the next 3 years. So many great memories of the area.
I went to big bethel church pretty frequently when I lived down there. Allen iverson HS is on one side of town and michael vicks is about 10 mins away.
Can I use this footage as B-roll for a show i am producing?
That's fine, just be sure to credit me for the footage.
@@MileageMikeTravels Thank you. Will do.
I live in this city. Years ago, I lived on Kecoughtan.
I was stationed at Langley AFB from 83 til 87. First year, I lived in the South Hampton Apartments off of Kecoughtan Rd, not far from where you’re probably referring to.
@@philipbaldwin2078 Yes
@@Debbie_George, what time period?
@@philipbaldwin2078 Around 1990 to around 1995.
@@Debbie_George, oh ok, I left the area in 1987. Actually, I lived in Hampton for a year, late ‘83 til late ‘84, then moved to Poquoson for the other three years. I left the Hampton Roads area in 1987.
I haven't been on some of those streets in years.
Shell Road?? When did it become Ave???
I made a song about Hampton va I use to live there I loved it, can I send you my song about Hampton va?
I'd love to hear. I grew up in Hampton as well.
Anyone know if Findley square is a nice area to live at 👀
Their Downtown seems kinda small. Norfolk by far has a better downtown than all of the other 7 cities in the area but I think Virginia Beach's town center might be a suitable rival.
Norfolk has a much bigger population
@@thiebaude True and have you seen its downtown?
Why does it matter? Every city is built different. Norfolk is Norfolk and Hampton is Hampton. Stop tryna make a city to be what it's not.
@@leonation89 So Norfolk is not a city? If not then we are a big village....
@@leonation89 You should tell that to VB and Chesapeake then too.
The bullet shell road lol
and the street sign says Shell Ave lol but it is Shell Rd
@@thiebaude 😅😅😅
I was thinking that I wouldn’t have turned down that street.
@DougMorris71 the opposite way is more criminal. The way he went isn't as much.
My home❤ i love hampton

Wow. Didn’t realize Hampton was so small
What's your definition of small?
@@leonation89 Hampton
@@eaglei0n Um ok.
It’s not. Driver must be lost!
@@reddbarnesful from the videos of Hampton I’ve seen. It most definitely is
Yeah once you pass Armistead, you're not really "downtown" anymore. by 2:43 you've pretty much seen the bulk of downtown Hampton. Once he was on Victoria Blvd, that's considered "old" Hampton. BTW Kecoughtan is not pronounced "key- cough- tan", it's pronounced "key- coh- tan" (had to learn that the hard way)
I was stationed at Langley AFB from 83 til 87. The first year I lived in the South Hampton Apartments off of Kecoughtan Road, then I moved to Poquoson. This was my first home as an adult.
Shell road is so bad. I had to move out
Looks terribly boring.. where's the life at and businesses?
