  • Morning drive around the Oceanfront area of Virginia Beach, VA, which is Virginia's largest city by population. Virginia Beach functions more as a suburb and does not have a traditional downtown so the popular Oceanfront was used for the purposes of this video.
    Filmed: August 2020
Virginia Beach by the Numbers (2010 Census):
    City Area: 497.50 sq mi
    City Population: 437,994
    Metro Population (Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC): 1,713,954
    CSA Population (Virginia Beach-Norfolk, VA-NC): 1,801,988
    From Wikipedia:
Virginia Beach is an independent city located on the southeastern coast of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 437,994; in 2019, it was estimated to be 449,974. Although mostly suburban in character, it is the most populous city in Virginia and the 44th most populous city in the nation. Located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Beach is included in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. This area, known as "America's First Region", also includes the independent cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk, as well as other smaller cities, counties, and towns of Hampton Roads.
Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its oceanfront. Every year the city hosts the East Coast Surfing Championships as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championship, a beach soccer tournament. It is also home to several state parks, several long-protected beach areas, three military bases, a number of large corporations, Virginia Wesleyan University and Regent University, the international headquarters and site of the television broadcast studios for Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), Edgar Cayce's Association for Research and Enlightenment, and numerous historic sites. Near the point where the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean meet, Cape Henry was the site of the first landing of the English colonists, who eventually settled in Jamestown, on April 26, 1607.
The city is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world. It is located at the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, the longest bridge-tunnel complex in the world.

you should vote in people who will change that - place needs a real downtown with emphasis on pedestrians.

It needs a lot more work. Road is too wide along the shore, the sidewalks too narrow, buildings are dull and uninteresting. Other places do beachfront better.

Interesting how lots of roads are named after various Seas and Oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, Mediterranean, Baltic)

Ah, Virginia Beach. It always shocking to me how different the vibe and atmosphere is in the Hampton Roads area compared to what I'm used to in RVA but otherwise, great video!

This is why people are so confused about this area , The Ocean front isn’t considered Downtown , That’s Townpoint Center ( Pembroke area )

Eh...VA Beach doesn't really have a downtown (they're trying). Oceanfront is the most popular area so I went with that for the video.

There are some locals that call the Town Center next to Pembroke Mall the True Virginia Beach Downtown. I know, I was one of them when I lived there for 21 Years (1990-2011).

This is very because this is just a strip, or boardwalk which most locals avoid lol, the Town Center was/is supposed to become the downtown area

That ain’t downtown….that’s the Oceanfront. Town Center is our downtown. The city has changed so much since I moved there in 1995. I’m a the true definition of a “Beach Boy” I love my city. No other place in the US gives you a little Southern Hospitality and East Coast Vibes all at the same time
