  • One of the greatest of all Romantic ballets and a classic tale of love, betrayal and the supernatural. The Royal Ballet's Giselle will be available to watch from Friday 3 December 2021. Pre-order now: stream.roh.org...
Peter Wright’s acclaimed production of the greatest of all Romantic ballets is superbly atmospheric in its telling of Marius Petipa’s classic tale of love, betrayal and the supernatural.
Giselle is the classic ballet of the Romantic era - and, for the dancer performing the title role, one of the greatest challenges in the repertory. Peter Wright’s production, a classic itself, perfectly achieves the dual aspects of the ballet, moving from the naivety of young love between Giselle and Albrecht in the village setting of Act I to the ethereal Wilis in Act II’s eerie moonlit forest. Rich in vivid character detail and poignant depth of feeling, Giselle is a reminder of ballet’s power to move and thrill.

Actually, according to the ROH page, the transmission will be recorded on November 20 and projected on December 3, that means that the cast is:
      Giselle: Yasmine Naghdi
      Albrecht: Matthew Ball
Queen of the Willis: Marianela Núñez

@@KamElizzza Thank you! I have loved seeing Marianela and Vadim as the two leads in this ballet, but Romeo and Juliet has made me a fervent convert to the school of Yasmine and Matthew as well! I will be very excited to see their interpretation. I think you've just helped convince me to purchase the stream!

They totally should but from what I can tell they're streaming the Nov 20 evening performance which is Yasmine Naghdi as Giselle, Matthew Ball as Albrecht and Marianella Nunez as Myrtha.

Agreed! they should but they have not done that yet. If they want people to stream it, they should let the public know who is dancing the leads. Papag3no may be right that Yasmine, Matti, and Nela are dancing the leads for the streamed show, I hope so. This may be the only opportunity that people concerned about exposure to possible COVID contagion in enclosed spaces, and of course the vulnerable, may have to watch Giselle this year, and this is a wonderful production. Thank you.
