Some say it's because of the ref style change, and the way they'd always call foul if MN tried playing defense. But I think MN is actually smart for getting outta the way because if they try defending then it'll just be an and-one, and 2 is more than 3. I gotta admit it's nice getting superstar treatment like this, and it makes more $ for the league cuz Denver has a bigger fanbase than MN.
So all in all I think the ref style change after we went down 0-2 was great timing. It really saved the day from my perspective, and for the NBA, too.
MN fans might be mad but there are so few of them anyway so it's a matter of what is best for the most people.

@@Tonylarkins39 it was not the ref why denver won 3 in a row...the just got back to being denver....with all that sleep walking in the Lakers series....they needed a slap in the face...minny were the fouling the fuk outta denver without being called and punished...denver just adjusted and got better...
Also minny is offensively lacking...so if thier defense cant take a break...thier offense is slowed down...
Whereas denver are offensively the best in the league... defensively they are top 10...
League will be happy if minny wins...they get a new face for nba for another 10 years...its good for the league if minny wins...

In those two games, Embiid averaged only 21pts. And not only does Embiid not play in Denver, he usually doesn't even show up at all and at least support his teammates from the bench. @ranchosdelnorte Před 13 dny

@@Howardzenful Pretty much every time Nuggets play at Philly, they also have consecutive games against Giannis and the Bucks in Milwaukee and at Boston. Plus the Sixers tend to force feed Embiid whenever Jokic visits to inflate his numbers even more.
Joel prefers to only play at home against Jokic so that more things are in his favor, that way casuals will look at the head to heads and think Embiid is better since they won't realize there was a disproportionate advantage for one of them.

This is just an appreciation post to Timpf for putting out this content nightly. His knowledge and understanding of not only what he's seeing live but also his ability to go into specific detail and expand at length the message that he wants to hammer home is so good. His tangent about learning the fundamentals/footwork is just one example of him delivering 100% facts to compliment the game that he's also breaking down. I'm super thankful that the NBA made that change in refing style after we went down 0-2, so it's more offensive based basketball. Cuz ain't no one got time for boring defense ball from the 90s in 2024! Plus it works so perfect with Jokic getting superstar treatment finally, so basically MN isn't allowed to defend him. And if they try? It'll just be an and-1!
Some say it's unfair but that's only MN fans and there are so few of them that this is really about what's best for the most people. And the NBA makes more money this way too, cuz viewership goes up when it's offensive ball and when superstars win.

Calm down. I'd say top 10ish in all of those categories (higher in some), which is plenty to make him a top 10 player all time, or approaching it. Saying he's top 2 in everything belies a lack of understanding of who the greats from prior generations were.
There is no one in NBA history with a higher basketball IQ than Larry Bird. No one. You can say Magic, Lebron and Jokic are on the same level and I wouldn't argue too much, but to say they had a higher basketball IQ is flat out ludicrous.
As for passing, there are so many greats that picking a top 2 should be impossible for anyone who actually knows basketball. Just to name a few that aren't Jokic: Lebron, Stockton, Nash, Kidd, and yes, Bird again.
Touch around the basket is certainly the one I'd say you have the best argument for, but again, there are a lot of guys. Go watch Kevin McHale. Go watch Kareem. For his size, peak Steph Curry was wild as well (65-70% in those peak years, for a guy that size, is ludicrous).

In reference to the Michael Malone quote at 11:18, which I like a lot... he says so many sharp/smart things. I tend to like what he says after a Nuggets loss and I tend to like what he says after a nuggets win. Just looking through various various comment sections from his press conferences, it's amazing how much praise he gets from fans of the opposing teams. It's crazy how he almost always seems to say the right thing and it's feels genuine. Many coaches aren't the best with the media and can stick their foot in their mouths from time to time (as would I), but Malone is top tier in that regard and from what we can observe from the outside he seems like an excellent coach as well. I like how he's never afraid to give opposing players/coaches props when they have good games. When i was growing up, there was almost this mentality, particularly in the NBA basketball playoffs that you never want to inflate your competitions ego while the competition is still going on and even then there tended to be a degree of residual animosity and if compliments were given they'd be noticeably disingenuous (but there were some intense rivalries). Guys like Michael Malone and Jokic seem to be to mature to have rivalries that are personal.

The most impressive thing I've witnessed in this series is the fact that nuggets have learned and improved this year to a level so incredible I just realized watching game 5 vs wolves. Every year before this one, jamal murry/jokic 2 man game driving to the rim chemistry between them has been guarded really well by wolves Def and that chem has been non existent other than the top of the arc hand offs; They shut that down and still nuggets have evolved as a team to figure out a plethara of options other than jamal/nikola chem offense. So exited to see this culture sustaing and flourishing. Def see nuggets winning second championship if they can sustain this type of nuggets culture. Everyone eat when they don't let jokic eat!!! Have never seen a player like Jokic before. Not gonna lie, I was doubting him after the first couple games but have to hold my hands up and admit that I was brutally wrong. With all the switching that happens in today’s NBA, it’s rare to see someone dominate their 1v1 matchup in the way that Jokic dominated Gobert in the 2nd half.

The core strength and coordination needed to be as strong and balanced as Jokic is at that weight is unreal. His body control at that size is remarkable. This is the best I have ever seen him play. The wolves brought out the best in him. As far as Gobert, you can definitely see the disconnect between brain/body when it comes to his feet/legs etc. As someone who works with athletes specifically on this issue (especially post injury as that changes how the brain engaged muscular systems etc) I completely agree with you. Great take, and completely agree.

The defensive gameplan worked well. Instant doubling Ant when he got the ball solved his heroball. MPJ didnt shoot well, but on the defensive side he was excellent. Murray still hadnt a good game in this series, both of them has a possibility to be much more better next game. Jokic is unique, nor AD, neither a Gobert-KAT-Reid Minny trio can hold him back. KCP, Braun and Holiday are elite defenders, 2 of 3 were always on Antman, this move disrupted the basic Minny offense.
I think that the Nuggets will close the seie next game.

It's the foot movement against the pressure against your body. Ppl generally, even large bodies, can exercise nice foot movement when not touched. But once you start bumping/pushing them, their game falls apart. Jokic actually uses the force against him, as an axle around which to spin off of. He will either push you back straight back, and if you add more force to stop that movement, then he spin off of your push.

Even if Porzingus were 100% healthy (which is most definitely not the case unfortunately) Jokic just absolutely bullies him in the paint. Do they just let Jokic score and focus on stopping everyone else with their elite perimeter defenders?

As a Celtics fan, Ant is my fav player now but I can understand the uproar Celtics fans were having when the media and other team fanbase were quick to crown Ant better than Tatum now just because of one playoff run. The success Ant is having now is the success Tatum was having at the age of 19 leading a team that had no business being in the ECF a game away from the NBA finals toe to toe against Bron. Does Ant have a higher upside than Tatum? Probably so because of how Ant uses his physical tools compare to Tatum but now with his experience (especially with how he handles blitz and doubles) give me Tatum over Ant but yes Ant is coming fast and he's gonna need his teammates to step up in a big way for to have the success Tatum accomplished. Ant has completely won me over though these last two postseasons
