here are some lyrics from the Grease soundtrack that literally fit right onto that chord progression =
Summer lovin', had me a blast
    Summer lovin', happened so fast
Met a girl crazy for me
Met a boy cute as can be
    Summer days drifting away
To, uh oh, those summer nights
    Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more
    Did you get very far?
Tell me more, tell me more
Like does he have a car?

I wish I had seen this lesson years ago. I appreciate the simple insertion and explanation of 1 - 5 harmony. It helped me to see it presented visually, because I always considered "harmony" to be notes placed below the highest leading note. Also, I noticed Jonny varied his fingering on the major blues scale. I tend to strictly follow the scale fingering starting with the thumb on "C". I noticed Jonny sometimes landed his index finger on "C" when playing a descending run. I often make my runs needlessly difficult by rigidly following the scale fingering printed on the final pages of piano theory books. So, this lesson greatly expanded my thinking on my mechanics. It was quite liberating. Thank you.

    • @franciscopereira2688
      @franciscopereira2688 Před rokem +2

If you think that Am is the relative minor of C, that same scale is A minor blues, a scale you would start with your thumb on A then index on C..That’s the fingering he’s using

The root/5 harmony section is such a great reminder. I typically play CCM at church, but when they pull out an older song, it’s great to add stuff like this. Sometimes it’s been so long, I forget what flavors to add so it’s not bland.
    Thanks!

I really like your style and taste in music and I have no doubt that I could learn from you.
I think the best part is that you break things down for the beginners without intimidation yet somehow keeping advanced players from getting bored.
One thing that our crew and I agree on is that we would all love to hear you just jam for an hour or so.

I'm also a pianist and have been following you for a while, Jonny. You're a great teacher! It's not everyone's cup of tea to teach someone. Some may be good players, but not able to cut to the chase. I started with a female pianist who didn't see how uptight I was. The result was severe tendinitis. That set me back three years.
Maybe you could address how to play relaxed in your videos. Especially the semi-circular movements of the wrist should be mentioned here. Also, the pulling up of the shoulders tenses the player; he can't play free and relaxed because of that. I think you could do a lot of beginners a big favour. Thank you for the excellent work, Jonny!

I look forward to learning more valuable lessons from you. For now, I am going to apply this lesson to my playing and explore the possibilities. I'm also watching your videos on playing the piano. I love playing the minor scales especially the D#/Eb scale, G#/Ab scale and the G min scale. I use the Eb/D# and it's fun. I would have to practice 40 hours a day before I played anything like this in public. TSV.
My piano teachers almost fifty years ago never managed to make music exciting. This approach would have been much more interesting to me but it was made clear to me that "playing by ear" was not an option they would let me explore.
A friend has a keyboard they don't use. It needs some work, but I might see if they will let me take it away.

When I play the bass lines with my left hand, everything is fine and feels effortless. All lines, from basic to advanced. But when I add the right hand with some improvisation, the left hand just goes away and it feels impossible to play the bass lines. How do you make the left hand keep playing the bass line?
