- Tom Jones - A Boy From Nowhere (Live at Cardiff castle) 2001
The nights grow cold,
My search for gold
Is leading nowhere
Whichever lonely road I take
It seems to go where
It's a fight to survive just until tomorrow
How can I display
What I know I'm worthy of
When they turn me away
The doors are closed to such as I
A boy from nowhere
But not to those who merely buy
The right to go where
They'll be met with respect,
Not humiliation.
A man's place on earth
I have come to realize
Is decided by birth
So what's the future
No matter where I go
I will still belong...
In Andalucia
Where we don't know where
The next penny's coming from
Something's wrong
I'm bound to Spain,
I won't remain
A boy from nowhere
There has to be
A place for me
And I must go there
I don't fantasize unlike a million others
Who must bow and scrape
For my one means of escape
Is to flourish a cape.
I'll fight all odds
And fight the Gods if they oppose me
I have to win
I won't give in
No one who knows me
Would expect me to fail
For the want of trying
Not a man alive
Had to beg or steal or fight
More than me to survive
So what's the future
No matter where I go
I will still belong...
In Andalucia
Where good honest men grow weak
And the rich grow strong
Something's wrong
Another dawn, another boy
A boy from nowhere
My destiny will guarantee
I'll only go where
It's a fight to survive just until tomorrow
One more mouth to feed
And the way things are round here,
That's the last thing they need.
The dusk turning to night, the band playing so tightly, obviously Tom singing every note perfectly- this is magnificent top-to-bottom
Great comment
THAT man can SING, Tom Jones what a performer !!
You know what keeps this guy going HIS LOVE of music keeps his heart beating
Always proud to be Welsh, especially when I hear Tom sing. This is just God sent! xxxx
I have listened to this maybe a hundred times and it's just an extraordinary performance, I never get tiered of it, long live Tom, we'll never see his like again.
grew up with me dad's cassettes and vinyls of Sir Tom Jones, hits like Delilah, its not unusual, green grass of home. but this song is a masterpiece. So i had to do a caricaturistic cover of it. i hope if ever by perchance that the big voiced man ever hear me sing this, that he'd say, that'll do boy. Far* hell yeah im your boy Sir Tom Jones. i'll always be. :)
One of his best live vocals, so happy I stumbled on to it years ago. I bought the DVD of this 2001 concert, this was definitely one of the stand outs. Been listening to TJ for over 50 years and I continue to appreciate him more and more every year. One of a kind!
❤🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️
Absolutely love this, probably my favourite Tom song, really shows his voice range. Long may you reign, 💖💖💖
A Boy From Nowhere & The Reason are two beautiful songs, they really touch my heart & soul. I can’t get enough of these two songs. Tom’s voice is awesome. My My My
💗💗💗
Legend...and a performance from the gods...
I was introduced to the music of Tom Jones some 40 years ago by his biggest fan, my mother.. Sir Tom's voice is a gift on loan from the God's! His talent transcends generations as is evidenced by my 5 year old daughter now singing this song with her daddy! Thank you Thomas John Woodward for sharing your talent with the world, and thank you mom for sharing your good taste in music with your little boy (not from nowhere!) Its special now for me to share Sir Tom with my daughter.
Check out his cover If from the band Bread. Hope and your daughter like it 😀
I remember my mother crooning over Tom Jones back in the '70s and '80s, and we, as kids, couldn't figure out the attraction. I'm 58 now, and I get it. I've been listening to this song in particular, live at Cardiff, for about four years now, and it almost brings me to tears each time! What a performer!
scott tyger I think he wanted to fund a musical around the bull fighters life story (can’t remember his name) he was singing about but sadly it never happened
Alison El Cordobes. The musical was called Matador.
Love this.... my heart is in Andalucia ❤
There are a few singers you can listen to and still enjoy as if it was the first time you heard them sing and Tom Is one of them
Thank YOU SIR TOM ! I love YOU forever !
You cannot get any better
This was a big comeback hit.......
Merci Tom!

Tom mentions this song in his autobiography book. It is from the musical "Matador" about a famous bull fighter, El Cordobés.
Tom, in his book, writes "it is an old school ballad, really, on a traditional rages to riches theme."
It went to number 2 in the UK Music Chart in 1987.
Número 2 en UK? Acaso NO tienen oídos?
One of his best, if not the best, ballad, from one of the worlds greatest male singers!

Perfect song for Tom. My favorite song by him……or is it? Love them all.
I like your reactions to this live version sooooo much, I am also a good singer and have x-years of live performance in live singing, but THIS SONG - THIS MOMENT catched in Video - is really timeless !!! What a wonderful performance and feeling...and the react of the audience ! Wonderful...THE BEST OF THE BEST. Tom Jones, Whitney Houston, Michael Bolton...who brings such a feeling to the audience, if they´re are all gone ?
Doesn’t get any better then this. Luv u Sir Tom.
This is an amazing performance!
This is a very beautiful composition -
. . . where good honest men grow weak and the rich grow strong, something's wrong . . .
shame I missed it during the 70s or perhaps it was banned by "the strong rich".
the reason you missed it in the '70s is because it's from 1991.

Actually it was originally released in 1987. If you’re going to correct someone, you might want to have your facts nailed down. Just sayin 😉

would love to know who that percussionist is behind him, and what that rattling noise is produced on. Long live a really nice guy.
