I remember being in year 6-7 scrolling through the classifieds, seeing r34 gtr's in the 40k range back in 2010/11, telling myself ill be able to buy my dream car when im an adult with a good job. Im now 24. Have a good job and have watched in agony as the prices on these cards have exploded. Achieving all the requirments you set out for a goal as a kid and not being able to reap the rewards sucks.
I know that feeling, did the same with r32 gtrs, I'm 22 now and am working myself to death. Was barely able to afford my r32 gtr. In my eyes it's worth it but in the eyes of my wallet im a fool.
im 31 and i have a 6 figure salary, and still can't afford fuck all, houses are ridiculous and JDM legends that i was drooling over that were only worth 18k 10 years ago have now added an extra 0 overnight, almost bought an NSX 5 years ago off an old bloke... until some prick told him what it was actually worth.
You know you've hit GOD MODE in programming when you test one of the most sought after JDM icons of all time. WELL DONE TEAM!!!
She is a beauty of a machine! 🚗
@@ReDriven so lucky!!
There is no f*cking way in hell that this car is worth half a million.
That is beyond ridiculous.
They probably bought it for $250k in Japan, and selling here for $500k.
Yes, there have already been sold for 300k-400k+ and the price will surge past 500k with time, rarity, and limited supply!
💎💎💎 They only produced them for a few years! ✅✅✅
Paul walker BAYSIDE BLUE Nissan R34 GT-R sold about about 1.4 million on an auction. Some Nissan GTR KPGC 110 GT-R.1億円以上する日本車 .How much in Dollars I do not know. But I really like the SKYLINE R34 GT-R Midnight Purple.
This car, if anything has been very well maintained.
The interior is immaculate for a 90's car.
Mate, 10 years ago when I was in the market for a new performance car (ended up with a WRX, hence the handle) I could have bought an R32 or R33 GT-R for about $20k. Even R34s were about $40k.
Oh and a very, very unpopular opinion, but one from experience...the R33 was (again, in big and bold letters, IN MY OPINION) a better drive.
Secondary unpopular opinion is that if I wanted to spend a lot of money on a Nissan I'd get an R35 NISMO and keep it maintained.
R33’s are superior
R33's are underrated
R33s are the best balance between performance and price for the RB26 powered GTRs imo. I personally have an R35 and out of the box is much better than any earlier model. But lacks that 90s JDM nostalgia.
So an R33 GTR is a better drive than the R34 GTR? Interesting. I own an R33 GTR and will rent out an R34 GTR when I visit Tokyo early next year. Curious to see how it compares to my car although mine is a bit modified pushing over 500 ponies and the one I'm renting is stock.
When it comes to cars like this, what people pay for is not just the car. It's something that I'd like to call the "History, Nostalgia and Pedigree" tax (HNP). So this R34 GT-R for example, is worth 500k AUD on the market at the moment. I'd wager that the car itself, as a functioning vehicle, is worth only about 50-60k AUD if in good condition. The other 88-90% you pay is for the aforementioned HNP tax, of which only a few factors are listed below:
- Racing pedigree in Japan
- Prominence in pop culture i.e. Fast and Furious, Gran Turismo
- 90s nostalgia (by extension JDMs of that period) is in the midst of its 30-year cycle, much like how 60s/70s American muscle cars were worth a fortune in the late 90s/early 00s.
- Insane demand from countries like Malaysia, USA (particularly since the 25-year cutoff has been reached).
Fun fact: Nissan made a total of 11,578 R34 GT-Rs, which sounds like a lot, but put that number into context, and you'll see that it's not much:
Nissan R34 GT-R - 11,578
Lamborghini Aventador - 11,465
BMW E30 M3 - 18,000
As you can see, the R34 barely outsold what Lamborghini, a supercar manufacturer, considers its best-selling flagship model to date. The E30 M3 was considered a sales failure, yet it sold a good 6,000 more examples than the R34, and look how much that car is now worth.
You guys should look at finding a 90s-2000s supra or NSX, id love to see your thoughts on those absoloute icons!
Already hunting. - AK
Just look at it. How could you not smile walking into your garage seeing that every day? Almost automotive perfecfion in my opinion!!! Such a beautiful car i hope it lived it to everything you expected
I've taken a ride in a 34 GTR and it is an amazing car.
But its price now is because it's a collection car, and they are all modified in some way.
What you can buy now for $500k is a better spend, if you have it.
Best car you've ever reviewed, hands down
Couldn't agree more!
Only because you haven't reviewed an AU Falcon yet...
Haha good point
@@mahcooharper9577 ex-taxi models only
I still regret passing up buying one of these for $50k when I sold my r32 😢
How good is hindsight! 10 years ago, $50-$80k seemed a lot, but now, an absolute bargain.
my condolences
This is by far the most expensive car you guys have ever reviewed to date and you all made me jealous getting to drive a classic piece of motoring history.
If I had the money I'd definitely buy this, a Jensen Interceptor, a Dussenburg type J or a decent house it's really a hard call 😂.
It looked like Hullsy was reflecting on the past 2 decades there for a moment lol.
Overall brilliant video guys and as always keep up the good work and have a good weekend and I look forward to next week's videos as per usual 👍.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching! 🙌
@@ReDriven like i wouldn't watch one of your videos 🤣
@Adam ... the sincere joy and your love to this specific car is so much obvious... and it is kinda adding seasoning to the whole review 🙂 well done mate!
For $500k, I’d buy the best Lotus Esprit V8 I could find and all of the parts to maintain it forever. I’d then get a Bentley Arnage or Jaguar XJR for daily driving duties... along with a nice Lotus Elise. That would do me for life.
I would absolutely buy one of these over a European supercar. Mainly because I'd be able to fit in this without dislocating any joints entering or exiting the car.
But holy shit, I know what you mean about being starstruck by a car. I still remember where I was the first time I saw an R32 GT-R... it was at a car show I went to on vacation in New Brunswick, Canada in August of 2009. I absolutely freaked out. They've become a lot more common in the years since but I still get excited when I see one.
You could get on the low end a R34 GT-R for around 40-45k back in 2013, now the car has gone into hyperdrive.
People have become overly optimistic it's becoming increasingly sad
@@RivaStyx it's a shame because all it's doing is taking cars off the road and into Garages driven barely if ever.
Yep, yanks to blame
We all knew it was going to happen when it became legal in the US, we just didn't think it would 15x when it happened.
Awesome video!! Any chance you can get your hands on a Z-Tune? Would love to see ReDriven keep the theme going: Supra, Silvia, NSX...
Paul Walker IMO is what also contributed to the rise and popularity of the GTR ..... every sports car lovers dream once he drove it in Fast Furious. R.I.P Paul 🙏
Your quote is perfect, modern vehicles have deseasonalised the feeling of fast. I grew up with v fast V8 and V fast 4cyl coupe, analog no traction control, etc. U could feel fast.
Today's fast is not the same, it's not going to break rear traction and spear you off into a tree, or corner with understeer and oversteer that u had to manage, modern cars don't allow for any of those to occur even in damp conditions.
Yes, today's vehicles are safer, but not as engaging (unless you can afford like a gt3 or m3 competition, and who can afford these, when I could afford a fast and fun V8 or hot coupe in the 90s.
Love your channel guys, unless I’ve missed it?! Can you please do a video on Silvia’s please! Always loved them but the prices of most models is going crazy!
Remember driving to buy a r32 gtr with my brother maybe 5 years ago, he got pulled over and fined for speeding cause the seller had someone else interested in it. We get there and the cun8 had received a deposit from some guy in Sydney. We headed back home depressed. Seller wanted $25k from memory
I have the exact same argument about my 2018 nismo 370z. People say it's not as fast as these new hatchbacks. But I can guarantee its more fun to drive.
As a 34 GTR owner, its a great car to own and drive, very fun, has lots of road presence. And, as stated in the vid, pics dont do it justice, seeing it in real life is so much more rewarding. However, is it worth 500k? Its worth what people are willing to pay, only 13,000 of these were made, they have lots of racing pedigree behind them, its in all the 90s/00s games (gran turismo, need for speed, forza, midnight club), it provides a certain level of nostalgia, has a plethora of aftermarket support, companies to this day are engineering more and more parts for the Rb26, heck even HKS are doing R&D to create a RB26 that can do 600+ks per tank while putting out 600ps of power.. - its one of the very few cars you can probably drive daily knowing theres parts still being made. I could go on.
Would i pay 500k for one... No. I'd probably take a Ferrari 488 haha. Love the car to bits, but If i had a mil with no expenses, id pay max 200-250k.
"Road Presence" is a great summary of what a GTR is.
yeah I'm from the States and saw one for the first time at a gas station in Florida(I'm sure there was nothing illegal about it lol) and man... they look sooooo good in person. A lot smaller than I expected.
Superb I have had many nice cars but the 2 cats I regret selling are a 76 Datsun 260Z and a 92 R32 GTR. My Gtr was basically standard and totally incredible at everything. Mine was the only one every imported into Spain, I got stopped everywhere. Crazy times.
Brilliant car, but overrated by 500%. 100k is fair. When a GR Yaris or Golf R can run circles around it, 500k looks a bit silly.
A.K, proud of ya mate. You mentioned the ashtray and lighter.. and then didnt go any further. Top bloke
Just trying to keep you happy Cliff! - AK
Only JDM sportscar enthusiasts appreciate and agree with the immense value and power of this legendary and notoriously sought after Skyline...
*drool* one of my dream cars. So lucky you had it reviewed, and such a great review. So, Adam, if you’ll be given this GTR, but in exchange you will have to start smoking and be a smoker, will you do it? It has an ashtray for it though. 😁
I’d have been packing my dacks to drive one of those things, well done on keeping a cool head fellas!
The 34 GTR doesn't have much pedigree in regards to racing, much like the Toyota Supra 2j ( TOM's supra used 3S-GT) from Toyota Celica.
Unless you just have to have a 34, R32 (Godzilla) and R33 are much better value, that's where they did well on track.
Godzilla was the term used due to there dominance in Australian touring car championship.
With the 34 they were struggling a little more given it's predominantly late 80s and 90s tech.
So IMHO I would save a lot of money and get an R33 GTR V-Spec.
Which was the first production car to go Sub 8min around the Nurburgring.
However nice review and that is a very clean GTR cheers.
You are so correct, you can't use a super car on the roads, you just want a good mechanical 6 or 8 ltr coupe worth manual transmission and great handling.
Practical enough. Drove my R34 GTT from Brisbane to Sydney & back with 4 people & a small dog.
Driving slow cars like they're fast is more fun than driving fast cars fast. IMO.
are you implying the GTR is a slow car?
Honestly I'd just go for an r35 at 120k. IF i had the money.
Same. But I understand WHY the R34 is so expensive: because it's the very last "Skyline". The R35 is technically not a Skyline
Even with the price being the same, I'd still pick the R35.
Im sorry but there's Paul walker fans vs skyline fans vs common sense
Thanks god that i buy R34 GTR in 25yo. Now i bought R35 GTR and love both very much❤
LEGEND
Excellent article. Love the mighty GTR's , I also love super cars too but it's Japan all day for me. A Nissan with 200,000 km on it would probably give less issues than a brand new euro super beast.
Awesome video - hope you enjoyed it :)
It's a great car, but not worth that money
But it is . . . to more than one person.
@@jimmyb4982 You could do a lot with $500,000, such as buying an exotic car, paying off some of your mortgage and going on a holiday lol
The other day i saw a beaten up r-34 gt-r on the streets, with different colour panels, it was basically a shitbox. But a 100 grand shitbox nonetheless less
@@lobsterwhisperer7932 Maybe not $100k, but it will still fetch stupid money...
come across a soarer when i was allowed to wander around in a couple of sheds,v8 twin turbo looked factory no pod bs,air boxes is it worth anything ,still looked new other than a covering of shed dust,oh and a gtr next to it.
No car is worth that money let alone a Nissan JDM legend but the market dictates what you pay, and for people with money, what does it matter what it costs when not everyone can have one of this rarity.
You'd have to choose the GT-R, there's no question.
I agree too, there's no need to change it and make it tacky like a fair few people have.
Only if I had one I'd screw the front plate on properly so it didn't flop around while i was driving it around... ;)
Legend reviewing a legend! Hands down best review on the R34!!
Looking forward to a Redriven review on the Evo6 and Evo10!
Having driven the R34 GTR a couple of times over the years, my annoyances are: 1) The interior is very basic and not surprising since it was designed and built in the late 90's. Don't expect any luxury. 2) Cup holders are a pain. Can't use them and shift into 3rd or 5th gear as your hand goes into the cup or bottle in the holder lol 3) the factory rear wing obscures the vision out the rear view mirror. My mate ended up buying the extended wing uprights. One thing must be said though - once you put your foot into it, the engine is addictive, the noise is lovely, and it moves very nicely when open road touring.
Time to review the classic JDM supra 🙏
Well it's no wonder asking 500k for a mint R34 GT-R is ok when they're asking 40k for a shitbox S2000. 🙄
Only worth it if you're an investor with deep pockets who will let it sit in a garage for a few years then try and sell it for 2x what they paid for it a few years later
Doubt it would sell tho. People are not even buying these cars now for the price that are listed online. There is more supply now than ever than there is demand. So many for sale in Australia that have been listed for a over a year now.
17:54 the shadow.....
one of these in a heartbeat over any exotica
Great car but their biggest problem for me anyways are their fan base. I don't know what's worse. Tesla fanbase or Skyline fanbase.
The Tesla fan base would have to be worse. Nothing can beat their ignorance.
I would love to own this car but I didn't buy one 10 years ago when it was worth 10 times less than it is now, so no way would I buy one for that price now.
But, for hardcore fans of these cars, they are priceless I guess.
I would love to see you do a report on that orange Escort in the workshop.
13:22 that timing
Old JDM cars really hit different… may not be “better” in some terms compared to its Euro competitors, but it hits different
Looks more comfortable than the exotics. Think i would by an Aston and keep the change
Same here, I always wanted an Aston M
If I had a 500K budget to fill my garage I would buy a 997 Porsche GT3 and Lexus GSF and still have change left over for a manual JZX100 Chaser.....
Can you review a toyota Crown 2008-2012
Yes, Crown Athlete please.
That was a pretty Mazda 3 in the back!
In the Netherlands a fast VW GTI or such cars, screams Drug dealer and the police will often stop you.
I am a little older, and the Skyline GTRs don’t sing to me. An Aston Martin DB12 does, and it’s half the price. Well, not half probably with exchange rate, but you get the point. Though, I am not sure I would spend that kind of money on a car, even one I love. You can get a lot of fantastic cars that would easily land you in jail for $100k USD. It’s hard to justify doubling or tripling or more for basically the same driving experience.
The DB12 is likely to be north of $600k in Australian micropesos when/if it gets here.
I’d have to get a regular GTr no spec nothing.. because imma MOD the crap out of it, track it and not feel guilty.. paying those prices to be scared to drive it. I wanna enjoy the car & drive it on the road w/o working bout accident, scratches ect..
Share a short of you entering that boot, 🤣🤣
never see them in my area, they are not pretentious enough but a few days ago someone was doing laps around our quiet street. If you want to see them in the wild, park at bankstown united on a fri/sat/sun night and you will see pretty much everything filling up on corn
Floppy tek-screwed number plate is icing on the $550k cake!
This is one of the most affordable priced cars ever!
It's time to ask daddy for money!
The price will hold for sometime soon or even go up because there now legal to import into the USA
As much as I'd love a R34, I'd probably just get a R33 for like half the price or less and get a NSX too with the leftover money.
Asking price: $500k

We are living in an age of excess when a GT-R is going for this amount of money. They are amazing and I've driven all the BNR (BCNR) range both stock and highly modified and I love them but not at this price, it's really just a wank to purchase one of these for this, everyone is just jumping on the hype train. Porsche GT3 or the Datto for the money, I know what I'd pick.
We need a review of the R35
Prices are crazy nowadays.
I saw a AE86 selling for 500,000 in singapore.
If I had the money I’d buy the Ferrari 458 or a v12 FF instead. Better to buy up the current Japanese sports cars like the civic type r, GR Yaris or Corolla, R35 gtr, Honda Nsx or if your lucky the LFA.
I need a Ford Falcon XR6 Review + Cheat sheet please
Working on it, hopefully happening soon. We have something special planned but the logistics are a challenge. - AK
This M spec GTR isn't worth half a mill. At best they are struggling to sell for $200k AUD at the moment..
There is no way in hell I would pay $500,000 for a Nissan R34.
I wouldn’t even pay $100,000 for one.
What a joke half mill for a 2.6litre twin turbo.
Epic car but most of them have been molested to the point you definitely wouldn't want to buy one, and most have also been thrashed. Its a pity there aren't more original ones around.
Damn... My dream car 😍😍😍
Question of value is comparing a modern exotic car to a investment car. GTR wins in terms of financial value. Even with the coming recession, GTR will lose a lot less than most exotics in a similar price range. GTR will retain value as long as the generation that idolised it has money.
Great video mate
These are the cars that will lose value if a recession hits. During the 90's recession, McLaren didn't sell near the volume of its famed F1 as thought and the resurrected Bugatti went bust. Already prices of second hand Ferrari's on average are $100,000 cheaper in the UK than here as the economic downturn over there is really biting. Historically values of these cars will improve after an economic downturn but how the world is ever evolving there is no guarantee that will happen either.
@tomnewham1269 agreed. My point is more value of a typical Ferrari, for example, vs. a GTR. The GTR will depreciate less in a recession. I saw that during the GFC late model, Ferrari sold at ~1/5th of their RRP.
Better financial strategy at this stage just keep the cash.
No wonder it’s 500k, it’s the m spec which is a rare trim
Nah I’d buy a couple of special cars, Rx7 Bathurst R, Tommi Makinen Evo 6.5, Toyota supra 👍 and the reviewed GTR for over $500,000aud shouldn’t have holes drilled into the trim behind the steering wheel, or anywhere else
I asked my 9 year old to identify what car this is, straight up R34 GT-R. I then showed him an XY Phase 3. He didn’t have a clue what it was. Times move forward, change is the only constant.
I have this conversation with my dad. He’s 78, loves the classic Aussie muscle and doesn’t understand my adoration for 90’s and 00’s JDM, yet, while I respect a GTHO Phase 3, it does nothing for me.
It’s like music, it is incredibly generational. - AK
You buy prestige and something they don't build anymore even from those fancy exotics, a real ricer car!
💎💎💎 In the hands of the right guru it will blow all those cars away! 🏆🏆🏆 Let's be honest now, they were made to be maxed out and driven by the best drivers in the world! 🎯🎯🎯 This is the JDM battle stallion you were meant to go to war with on the streets! ✅✅✅
So beautiful! I mean the car.
I still prefer the R32 GTR, and still a lot cheaper than the R34 GTR with similar engines. Had good racing success at Bathurst and touring car championships too. Great review on the R34 GTR though.
Simple answer is yes, yes you should
It was a very expensive car when it came out and the interior was described as luxurious so the interior has been manufactured to the highest standard and quality so their should be know rattles.
I'd get the r34 anyday of the week instead of the other options.
Love the car and can't believe how cheap it is. Should be worth a couple millies at least.
The RB26 and other six cylinder Nissan engines do suffer from water pump issues which is predominantly the poor design of the pump impeller and especially the housing on the front of the engine This can be overcome by a proper impeller design .
Skyline was a "Big" car for the day as far as japanese cars went....... compared to Modern 2023 cars - completely understand your thoughts. Owned 2 R34s, wish i never sold (either of them)!!
Honestly an Evo vi tm or Scooby 22B over this all day
For 500,000 aud I would buy a house. JDM cars of that value are desirable and a wet dream, but the reality is that it's either sitting in the garage or a police and hooligan magnet. Plus the thieves...yeah not worth the risk even if they are targeting more towards european supercars.
very gran turismo car
What is up with the wires hanging out under the dash? Ziptie anyone?
GTR eh not worth tbh but GTST is the bargin of the century right now, and you can quite easily make it just as fast as a GTR plus they are RWD which imo is way more fun
I want one so much, but I think that the first skyline i'll buy will probably be a 33 gtst, 33's are generally cheaper and I like them more, gtsts keeps the turbo but isn't stupid expensive for an rb26
2013 I nearly bought a Bayside blue R34 for $84,000- I thought it was a bit overpriced so I went with the Evo...🤦
I almost bought a blue R34 GTR for $43k in 2011. 😂 But that was after selling my R33 GTR. Bought a Evo 5 instead.
200k+ for a gtr has made the whole point of a gtr redundant. They were suppose to be cheaper than its euro competitors, but better and more bang for buck. But now it’s the same price as a gt3, doesn’t have the performance, or tech or quality of a gt3.
All Hail the King: the mighty R34 GTR
Every JDM import has had a distinct smell of car freshener, cigarette smoke, and one other scent I can not put my finger on.
Its most likely Squash
Mildew/ rust smell
Gosh and to think I could have picked up an R34 GTR in 2008 for $50,000 NZ dollars importing from Japan!
