Will you have your own line of grass seed like that famous CZcamsr Ryan Knorr? 🤔
Because of you, I purchased seed from United Seeds with your promo code. Unbelievably fast shipping, great price and great seed. What more could you ask for?! I appreciate the hook up Connor!
@@JEK not likely
Why have I never heard of United Seeds? Checked out their website, and they have high quality stuff. And with your discount code, it ends up being cheaper for my overseeding project than buying cheap stuff at big box stores.
@@mikemeskel thats exactly what I said! I'll be using them from here on out. Hopfully Connor can keep that promo code going haha
Worked at a sod farm when young. They used to swear by refrigeration of the seed (at least 3 days) - early generations TTTF and Bluegrass. We also soaked, but only for about 24 maximum and with a liquid fish emulsion. We then drained it well, like a day and mixed 50/50 with very dry mason’s sand as a carrier. We usually got germination in four days AND way better stand through maturity - way quicker field rotation. The elderly owner had been doing that for years and said the refrigerator brought up the humidity
Can you explain the refrigeration process? Was this before or after the pregermination soak?
@@makuakane7787 - days prior, they even had a commercial cooler. The owner claimed the seed coat would soften with the refrigeration and the endosperm was “awakened” going from the cold to the warm - just as if it had overwintered.
The cycle was: several days in the cooler. 24 hours in the fish emulsion. 24 hours draining/drying (slightly). Then mixed with fine, dry sand for application. We broadcast spread, then used his own invention of a spiked roller with no additional weights for lightly inserting into the soil.
@@Manoffire260 awesome info, thanks!
While I believe you/him that refrigeration may help the process, it definitely was not due to humidity. The inside of a fridge is a naturally dry environment. Think of it like a big A/C. Both pull moisture from the air, plus the colder parts of the fridge collect the moisture more easily as they attract the moisture better, leaving the food and, in this case, seeds, drier.
@@applsauce3393 maybe the dry cool seeds woke up and soaked up the water fish bath more quickly.
Would love an update video showing how you are exactly laying these

I did this with my Everest KBG reno this year and I got germination in 5 days. I put the seed down on August 13, today is the 24th and the grass is 3/4 to 1" long in some areas and great germination too. Great video Coonor!
I was so confused when I saw your lawn was green again, and then it cut to a future point in time where you started nuking it.
I'm so excited to see the results.
Make seeds wet helps the germ faster, this is pretty awesome man. I do it for gardening never seen it on this scale but awesome man. Also the water change helps stop fungi growth which isn't good. Love your videos, me and my daughter watch when they drop. Love the content much love.
After 3 years of lawn care videos i am still learning tricks of the trade, thank you for that ! One benefit of getting Covid is I overseeded and spot seeded with elite tall fescue and am able to water 3-4 x for the past 5 days. This is a great tip for me when I go back to work full time and have to seed next year it will speed germination and baby sitting.
I wish this video came out 2 weeks ago, I bought my seed and started pregerminating it already. First time, just went for it…we’ll see how it goes🤘🏼
Everest is good stuff. I have TTTF and it mixes exceptionally well. I was looking to overseed this year and wanted to try this process with my kbg. Thanks Connor!
Wow, it's really coming along already. Can't wait to see how well the pre-germ did.
Nice lawn hack, this can cut down on the watering and establishment time. Appreciate all your videos you are the best.
I'm going to try this for my patch work in my small renovation area from last Fall. Weeds have been terrible in certain areas of my lawn due to drought and heat. I went cheap this year and didn't water all Summer, except for the renovation.
love seeing the process, thank you sir. I put my seed down yesterday high persentage KBG wish i pregerminated. oh well. also got 2 inches of rain last night I hope it wasn't to much. cheers mate from Ontario
I’ve been watching your channel for a couple of years now and you got me striping my lawn and I love it. I’d like to see more videos on what your doing with your renovation and I hope it works out this time.
Bill from Preston in the UK
Thank you Bill.
I didn't pre-germinate yet but I put my seed down on 8/13 and got germination this weekend. I was giddy going out front this morning and being able to see green across the lawn. I can't wait to see how this KBG comes in. I might try pre-germinating the extra seed I have to fill in thin/bare spots in a couple weeks.
It will work I can't wait to see how it comes out thanks again brother always a great show
Heck yeah!!! Love your content and the amazing results your getting. Keep it rolling brother!!!!
All that hard pays off. Totally appreciate your
videos! Wishing you all the best!
You are doing a great job!! That is a lot of work!
I did pre germination using milorganite this spring. I won’t plant KBG without it anymore. It’s so effective. I soaked for 5 days and had sprouts in about 3 more after spreading.
Good stuff! Did this a few years back with great results!
It does work.
just did this with some of my Barenbrug RPR. 5 days of soaking and then mixed it with Milo to dry it out. Put some in the yard on bare spots and put some in trays for growing plugs. Did not seem to do anything. Just now starting to sprout about 13 days out. Normally 7 or so without soaking. Until this moring I thought I might have drowned it. LOL Round 2 I did a pound of KBG Midnight and mixed it with bagged topsoil. Just started that yesterday. Got another pound of RPR that I am just going to keep wet for a few days and then mix with topsoil. Just testing things out before I areate and reseed in the middle of Sept. Love your videos.
It does work. Ive been in the turf business 20 plus years got a degree from umass in turf management microbiology. Been maintaining pga championship golf course turf. Built many golf courses. We hydrate seed certain areas of tree lines. Hard panned areas. Changing water is clutch. I use diatenacious earth products to move the seed. Love one of your shirts hats

Looking awesome! Good work as always
Video couldn’t have came at a better time. Just top dressed my back lawn with sand (per your videos) and need to overseed a few bare spots that were depressed after installing pop up down spout drains before my initial seeding last fall. Good stuff. Love the PPE.

I never thought I'd hear The Lawn Rebel say "I follow the rules".
Looking forward to seeing your new lawn mate!
Bro, excellent content haha. If nothing else, it's fun to watch and see what happens in your lawn. I'm in NC and it's really hard to plant KBG for me, but if I could I would def try this out to make it faster! Love my Lawn Rebel shirt as well! Need to get on here and watch you more often than I do. Good luck this season sir!
I first saw this similar method used by one of The Lawn Tools. Then several others started doing it in similar ways.
Hi Connor, since 2 years i am a fan of your lawn video's! Nice work! Greetings from Belgium!
You are awesome , thanks for doing these vids. If you remember me I was the looky loo in a silver minivan that stopped and talked to you when you were trenching, must have been tough work but I appreciate you sharing all this great info
hurray, new vid. i love to watch ur stuff, connor!
I drive by jacklin seed almost weekly! 👍🏻
You can reduce the throw of your MP 3000s by 20% if you screw down the top adjustment screw - Love the channel Connor 🤙🏼
Holy Seed!
I watched your video 2 weeks ago and you talked about going to get the paint screens.
You didn't say much other than the video audio got messed up.
I had planned to hit my Target with the soil temperature in my area, and used expensive seed I bought online and said fock it. I am exactly 1 week in and seeing grown seedlings. Wish I would have known about the every 12 hours I did 24. Love the channel and can't wait for this Kentucky Bluegrass to meture in the spring!
I had thought I messed everything up, but I want to mow so bad now but it actually worked.
I did a 24 hour wash of seeds*
I had some old seed that I threw down in the spring but it never came up(and re seeded with a newer batch) so I decided to try soaking the old seed now to see if I could get any germination out of it this fall - however I only changed the water about three times, and *yes YOU MUST CHANGE THE WATER OFTEN!* as my seed got nasty and smelled horrible: kinda like sour milk and burnt plastic toxic in brown poop water - but I dried it a bit on a towel and mixed it with some organic fert and put it out anyway, might still not do anything
Thanks for the video learn alot from all you lawn guys in CZcams , am trying this to fill in some spots that haven’t came in or got wash away with the storm last week. But I had germination on sis grass in 3days and 5days on kbg/prg mix, with carbon pro g,hydrotain, scotts seed starter,RGS,Humic12,Air8 and peat moss covering. Kbg/prg 10k sqf is 85% full and PRG 6k sqf is 95% after 10 days today.
haven't come in vs came
Best seed I've ever used.
Hey Pal it's looking good.
Soon we will see the new lawn.
First time viewer. 👋
Thank you for your honesty, really digging your sense of humor!🤣
Trying to fix my yard at new house.
Like you, don’t have loads of time.
So, going to give this a try.
Thanks for your advice I’m going to try this
I used 2 bags of topsoil and threw it with a shovel for overseeding, and more carefully put it down on the bare spots. My front yard is around 1500 sq ft. I soaked 7 lbs of tall fescue for 3 days after dethatching. Today is day 6 and nothing yet, but it is early still.
Thanks heaps Stephen from Melbourne Australia great stuff
Working you ass off, never heard of pre-germinating this way. I saw a video where someone fills a wheelbarrow with dirt and mixes in seeds, and sprays it every day for a week then spreads it on the grass to get faster germination. Loved seeing this though, seems there's always many different ways to do you lawn :D
Thanks for the video.
Do you have a video or short on the spreading of the Seed and Humic Mix?
Great stuff! I’m going to try this very soon
I’ve been wanting to try this for some time now. How much humic did you use to spread the grass seed?
Lawn will be popping in no time. You're off to a good start.
Thanks Connor & United Seeds on the coupon code collaboration! We appreciate you! 😃
Glad that it worked and that you got a deal
It's almost spring! Time for some Connar Ward!!! OH YEAAAAAA
Thanks Connor, it just worked for me today, Bermuda in 5.5 days instead of 12, only difference is I only kept them submerged for the first 24 hrs only then I dipped them in fresh water every 24 hrs letting them drip dry, pre-germinated for a week, I must water 5 times a day in this 100+ heat/sun but I saved a week of watering
SAFETY FIRST. Glad you were donning the high vis vest while working the pre-germ project
Anytime I sniff a risk, I see safety as priority #1
@@lawnrebel what happened to Safety Third?

keep up the good work.. i got to all to come imminently!
Love your videos.
When I want to kill plant life I use Industrial or Cleaning strength vinegar and Round Up.
Works excellent.
Best lawn how 2 videos ever
Thank you for the idea
Just did this with some cheap Pennington KBG. Soaked for 5 days, mixed with Milorganite, spread it out and 7 days later I got peach fuzz action!!! Omg this saved me at least 2 weeks of watering 3-5x day. This was a full renovation so my wife is starting to ask how long will the front yard look like arse. Couple more weeks then add more steroids to the lawn.
ah! I didn't even think of granular humic acid for this purpose!
majority of people on youtube use Malorganite to spread wet seeds.
Thank you for uploading this video!
Another great video!!
Great video never knew this was possible
Nice work Connor! The lawn is poppin' already, just like your rotator cuff is going to be doing due to slinging water out of the paint strainers :D
That's what someone else said
I’ll tell you what is “Crazy talk”…happens around 2:22 🤣 Seriously, great content Connor. I prgerminated Everest KBG in the spring. Had some bare spots. Could have been any of the following. The cooler spring in New England this year. Changed the water about every 24 hours. 12 when I could. And loaded up too much grass seed in a bag. What did germinate did so about 7 days after seeding. 👍 Making adjustments for the fall seeding. Thanks again! PS - Love the PPE but you should have worn protective glasses while drying out your seeds 🤣
"I don't make the rules. I only follow them." Haha.
Reminds me of one of my favorite videos of his from a few years ago when he is talking about scalping a section of the lawn in the back yard. "GREEN, YELLOW, TALL" and the classic Connor, "I probably shouldn't do that again but the likelihood of me doing that again is very high." and "I like to do what I do, and that's why I do it."
Edit: Had to go back and watch it again czcams.com/video/wMzRc-8AdT8/video.html
Pretty sure I've seen individuals use a peat moss roller as well... mix the seed with the pest moss, and it'll give it some material to attract to when germinating too
Connor, you are awesome🤙
Beautiful horizon!
Love this
There was another CZcams video. Soak the grass seeds in a 5 gallon bucket. 12 hours soak remove from bucket let it air dry for 12 hours. And soak again for 12 hours repeat the cycle for 5 days.
Last week I put my begtrass seed in water - never changed the water - no paint strainer bag - let it sit for 7 days and most of it not only germinated but grew long roots and about 1 inch of grass - I then pushed the roots into my bare spots - I will keep you posted to let you know if it lives and grows
Any update?
Connors my bluegrass hero
Love it! 🎉
🎯Yeah I learned not to leave the phone on the ground👍 you only need to do it for one day seed can only hold so much water and then it will just start to rot.
Great video
You need to make “certified KBG grass seed” t-shirts! I would rock that so hard at Home Depot and Lowes.
I came accross this pregermination technique early summer. The Milorganite site outlines the process. What I found was the 'soak' times given were Woefully short. They state 5 days for KBG. After 2trial sessions I ended up soaking the KBG 12 days. It sprouted 2 days after placement. Full seed germination within 5. This was in mid summer heat in the northeast. Tall fescue was recommended at 3 to 4 days. I ended up soaking for 8 days. Again the seed popped in 2 with full seed germination 3 to 4 days after that. Overall great results for mid summer.
I have 1 more round of seeding starting tomorrow. I have almost 25 pounds thats been soaking for 8 days... its a spreading tall fescue. With cooler temps I'm hoping for great results
I am soaking my TTTF seeds right now. Today is Day 4. You said you soaked TTTF for 12 days and the seeds popped in 2 (Day 14?) and germinated fully in 3-4 days after that. I am wondering: 1) when/how did you know to stop soaking? 2) what did you do to seeds after you stop soaking? Thanks a lot!
@shanghongdong5917 Good question. I've pregerminate numerous times. That's the longest soaking and at that point I just put it down. I never saw the seed crack that they talk about, but at 12 days I didn't want to wait any longer. I could blame bad eye sight but.... just keep an eye on it and go a minimum 5 to 7 days.... if it doesn't crack .. go longer
Hey Connor im getting ready to do the pre-germinate my seed using fescue seed.
question on seed deployment does it mater what delivery method fertilizer you used with the pre germinated seed? I was going to use milogranite..
Thanks 😊
The constant cold water replacement will shock the seed. We had seed sprouting after 5 days of a soak. 5 gallon buckets, aquarium pump, 1 hose per bucket. Water never replaced.
Circulating the water from bucket to bucket? And what is the reason for changing the water exactly?
Mold, algae or any other waterborne nasties
I had that gut feel about cold water so having been using warm water instead. I'm sure more prone to fungus that way but that's why you change it I guess.
I find something useful in every single video you put out Connor. Thanks for the content!
Nice hair cut, Connor, man really!
"i ran over my phone by accident with rick-the-roller" OMG i just about spit out my coffee :D
yeah ran it right over. it was on the paver parking area and the roller ran right over it. Cracked it done. It was toast.
Next year it will really be shining again
Great video and information, sir!! Siri let me ask you last summer I killed my entire grass in my backyard. I sprayed it fall came around I put down tall, fescue and fertilizer and basically all I got was weeds? Do you know what may have happened with that sir? And any recommendations? Thank you.
I’m glad you Ricked the Roller
It looks like you'll be receiving a 100K plaque soon!
Sweet !
I pre-germinated kbg earlier this year in a wheelbarrow. Filled it up with seed, water, peat moss, and topsoil. Mixed it up good, put a tarp over the top, and left it for a week. Spread it out over the lawn where needed, and It came in great. It was so nice cutting a big portion of that early establishment period out!
I know that wheelbarrow approach couldn't be done for a full lawn, but for some overseeding I needed in dead patches, it worked great.
I think this works better than the water soak from my experience, as long as small area. I had some fungus growing on the soil after couple days but maybe there was a little too much water.
Actually maybe combining the two methods could work best; soak for about 3 days to soften husk and get rid of toxins, then put them in soil/peat moss until they start sprouting.
I saw a picture of someone spreading peat moss with a shopping cart since wholes about right size; will try my kid's toy one next time for spreading the seed/soil/peat mixture.
@@peterobara3040 If I had to guess, it may be the topsoil containing fungi well before you mixed it that simply "awakened" when enough moisture and temperatures were present. That's pretty typical for topsoil of any kind in my experience.
getting your daily exercise in with seed swings. keeps the shoulders loose
LOL... or torn.
Connor, what hose setup are you running there? i'm in the market for a really top quality hose.
Can I apply grub control at the same time as over-seeding my lawn ? Will it stop germination ?
Definitely trying this, this season lol why not
yes do it. it works well. change water is key
@@lawnrebel yes I’ll make sure to do that! Also need clean buckets lol
Seeded...2 days after - heavy, heavy rain. It's a flat area, wash away? If so, to where?
After seeing what you do, I'm thinking all that rain water would help.
Keep up the good work!
Hey Connor, how is the seed doing that soaked for 10 days? Today is day 5 for my KBG soak and I’ve got 100% rain the next 3 days, so I’m thinking of leaving mine soak 3 more days until the storms pass, so an 8 day soak.
Almost to 100k!
Connor! I'm back in the country. Haven't seen you in, well when did you fix that hydraulic cylinder.
I was expecting you to just friggin yeet that bag of seed at the very end. 😂
Good ol' Kentucky Bluegrass!
What if you pre soak your seed with a starter fertilizer?? Would this speed things up more
Question: why did you choose Everest KB as opposed to the other KB’s offered by United seed? (Just curious! I’m planning this years lawn project)
You can pretreat any seed, normally it’s with a seaweed treatment or a something similar but it becomes a nightmare to sow. I’ve mixed it with soil, ended up with a sloppy mess. Looks good now though, hoping for a quick tour of how it looking now
Mix with milo, easy peasy!
did you think about taking those bags of seeds and putting them in your washing machine and putting it on spin cycle only to help get the water out?
Stack each wet/water/bucket on to the top of each other, and weight the top bucket - this is working in parallel. Toxic water thing, yes, abide by that; this effort is worthwhile for warm-season grass; also, not sure it should be submerged for the whole time; 12-hour rule, yes! ... is it too complicated - versus watering the seed on the prepared soil surface .... I have to agree, that is the question; in Arizona, the answer is clear; but here in the SE, water is not a problem; spreading it, yep, that is complicated; the humic acid granule mixer is a good idea; the seed should not sprout, else you break the first-root off of it(!) ... so many issues, yes.
