I remember a college roommate crotcheted a bikini that turned out cute. I don't remember if she actually wore it in the water, but she brought it with her for Spring Break somewhere warm near water. It was made out of cotton and lined. This was in the early '70s. What goes around, comes around!

Thank you for showing when you frog part of your crochet projects. As a beginner frogging seems really off-putting but i dont think people should be discouraged when they need to frog. I think it shows growth in your crochet abilities. I love seeing others frog their projects and showing their growth!

I’m almost 60 and have only been crocheting a few months. I wish I had learned when I was in junior high/high school because I swam and went to the beach all the time! I wanted a crochet bikini way back then so badly, but they were expensive!! I could have made my own. 😭 My goal is to make a cute halter top for my daughter when I get a bit better at crochet. Your bikini is adorable!!

I have worn a cotton crochet bikini in the water before, it does end up stretching out and getting really heavy, but it was much more comfortable to wear out of the water than an acrylic yarn might have been as it was really hot outside. Definitely be careful if you take it swimming it might get kinda loose, but you can always tighten the straps as that happens if they are the kind you can tie. I have never made bottoms however, not sure how those would hold up
You took me back to my childhood when I was about 6/7 and rocked my crochet bikini at the beach in the early 80's. Yes I'm that old.
I got my driver's license in 81,I hear ya barkin',but I got you beat,and who puts a crochet bikini on a 6/7yr. old? Your memories when you were 6 are probably not as clear as you want them to be.
@@annalake4376 was questioning my memories really necessary? It was the very early 80s and while by today’s standards people might not do it, it was still totally innocent. My crochet bikini covered just as much as any other bikini. I just had a saggy bum when I came out of the water.

I saw a post saying you should use a mix of cotton and spandex yarn. Their reasoning was, after your cotton yarn stretch, it wouldn't return to its original sizing, making it too loose for your body and doesn't fit snug. I'm trying very hard to find that original post.
