Hi. Your approach from the socio-political perspective is interesting. I cannot pretend to have an opinion on the situation in the US, because I have lived for more than half a century on another continent, where the socio-political issues are different. I understand that you are part of the "silent majority" that does not associate with any of the extremes - I respect that, because we also have the equivalent of this "silent majority" in my country. You are the reactor that perhaps articulated this opinion most clearly, out of the several dozens of reactions I have seen to this song. But not the only one, I realize now. Regarding the musical structure of the song, I kept the idea that the poverty of the structure urges the listeners to listen more carefully to the lyrics. This finally explains quite well for me the success of the musical genre in question. Thank you for this. The 2 clear explanations above, easily understood even by me, make me believe that you have a talent as a teacher, to explain in a way that everyone can understand. So I took a look at the list of your reactions and noticed that it's a very diverse list, that you don't limit yourself to a single musical genre. So I dare to propose you to react to the most reacted song in YT, namely the live performance from Wacken 2013 of "Ghost Love Score" belonging to the symphonic metal band Nightwish czcams.com/video/47e_961OQWE/video.html You will definitely have something to analyze, from the musical structure to the vocal and instrumental interpretation. In the hope that you will think about this apolitical proposal :) I wish you all the best, from Romania!

I think the point of music is to make people feel, so the point of political music is to make people feel about politics. But how convincing is a song? There aren't facts or data. There is no clear problem or solution. It just makes people who agree, agree more. And people who disagree, disagree more. It has taken all of my willpower to make it through the first two minutes. Edit: Michael saying "If someone offends you, it's because you gave them that power" is kinda victim-blamey. Like yes, we need to do our best to not let people control our emotions, but also if someone is a total dick to you, it isn't your fault and it's normal for that to sting. Edit Edit: Disappointed to hear Michael's overall takeaway (which he is more than entitled to, not saying he isn't). But, the irony of putting out a song accusing people of being too easily offended while being the living embodiment of a 4chan troll (Shapiro) is mind-boggling. I don't think everyone has a duty to be a political activist or stats expert, but the "Both sides are terrible so why bother" approach is intellectually lazy and morally misleading. Yes, both sides have extremes, and the extremes are often revolting, but Michael basically suggests that giving a shit about politics is the same as being an extremist. You can care about politics, agree with one side over the other, and still be capable of sane, rational thought. I do rubber stamp the "I'm about connecting people, not dividing." The problem is that this video is kinda the opposite of that whole idea.
It's sad that the normalization of hatred has led people like Michael to not even notice how this song and what it stands for is just pure hatred. This music is designed to divide people, make fun of certain groups of people, and to ridicule real struggles that people have in this time and age. It's sad seeing Michael naively (or ignorantly) buying into this kind of thing, without having put much thought into it, or be aware of the fact that condoning this kind of hatred pushes lots of people away from his content. It's a shame.
If Michael is being honest about not following the news or what's going on I could see why he digs the vibe of "sorry if I offend you." He doesn't see the bigger picture. Or... Maybe he's lying and he's a Shapiro fan.
@@bananasop1032The song is not pure hatred, it is calling out the issues of America and the danger of the culture war that has to end, and the bad things, as well as to be funny and to trigger.
The reason you don’t experience people getting offended at everything is because you’re in a rural area. In a big city or near a university, things are way different.
I GOT OFFENDED I want to break this comment into 3 parts The first 1 is I watch all your videos and I really love how you pick a song and you break it down melodically and make sense of it and I learned a lot from you and believe you’re a genius. 2nd part u talked about 2 points 1 People being afraid to talk because everyone is getting offended too easily, well this perspective can be comprehensible coming out from someone who’s not politically involved which yourself as you said in the video which I dont think it‘s true, I think you knew already posting this would offend part of your audience because Ben Shapiro is already part of an Extreme side and sending a message through this song, and you gave him your audience and platform by posting it. Which send us to the 2nd point 3rd part which is the point you mentioned in 10:26 to the end of the video, If you’re not one of those camps, so please please don’t post to any of them or be fair and give your platform for both. Assuming you had good intentions and you’re only talking music here. Finally and musically, I don’t believe this song added any value to my music learning or your music teaching as I can’t see anything musically outstanding in it. This song was created only to offend the other extreme who’s being bombed and murdered every second and a child is being killed every 4 mins you again gave him a platform. Please don’t stay politically ignorant and educate yourself about it you should feel lucky that you’re busy raising you’re kids, our people are busy trying to find food water and Shelter which are the basic human rights because Ben Shapiro’s Extreme decided to deprive them from these rights

Tom's music is just for shock value. People only listen just to hear it. Then they're done with it. Sorry, but it has no soul. There's no classics. Hip-hop instrumentals are usually pretty stripped down. And then there's Aesop Rock who I cannot recommend enough. Lyrics are above all the driving force with him even though he's a phenomenal producer as well. Love me some Aesop Rock. I never really understood the whole Tom MacDonald 'experience.' I've got a friend, a right-wing Christian guy, who loves Tom and never misses an opportunity to play his music. It's pretty braindead hip hop in my opinion. A little too on-the-nose. Lacking nuance. There isn't anything there to pick apart or study because it's so damn blunt and straightforward. I don't even disagree with the message--I just find it boring. But seeing Ben Shapiro in a Tom MacDonald song is so absurd, and Shapiro's so self-aware, that I can't help but kind of love it.
Sir, with all due respect & clearly I clicked on your stuff to learn an instrument which is the best compliment I can give, but you apparently don't know who Ben Shapiro is, or all the unhinged nonsense he has said. Like cool, you come from a rural community & you don't know anybody who is affected by the nonsense these people say. Well I'm from the country too, but I'm trans. I'm trying to live my life the same as you and all across this country our state legislatures are wasting time on passing bills that hurt me & the people I love. They could be using that time on literally anything else to help ALL of us, I hope we can agree? I realize you feel like being non-political & moderate is the sensible, mature choice & I realize that a LOT of us are working too hard for too little & want to use what little time we have on family & hobbies--But that's a luxury YOU have that many minorities do not. I HAVE to track the news to know if I need to leave my home state. Many, MANY, folks & families have left Florida, Texas, etc. I apologize for the length of this, but I hope you won't take this as an attack but an opportunity to learn more about my community & the danger we face. But just so you, & everybody else knows, I don't have notifications turned on for this stuff, so I won't see your comments. I really do wish you & your family all the best. Bye though.
i enjoy your videos and your analyses but i implore you to go learn about and meet some trans folks and then listen to the song again and see if you feel the same way. not sure you got the whole message there. peace to ya brother 🙏
Michael, you may never see this, but I'm a long time fan and viewer. I'm a bit confused about what you were truing to say in this one.
Exactly. He's lucky that he's only ever been offended by others, not oppressed or had his very existence criminalized.
If Michael is being honest about not following the news or what's going on I could see why he digs the vibe of "sorry if I offend you." He doesn't see the bigger picture.
Or... Maybe he's lying and he's a Shapiro fan.
That's because being trigger is all you have !! @@bananasop1032
Yeah man, that’s called Culture Steering.
😂😂😂😂
Agreed! Be good to each other.
I GOT OFFENDED
I want to break this comment into 3 parts
The first 1 is I watch all your videos and I really love how you pick a song and you break it down melodically and make sense of it and I learned a lot from you and believe you’re a genius.
2nd part u talked about 2 points
1 People being afraid to talk because everyone is getting offended too easily, well this perspective can be comprehensible coming out from someone who’s not politically involved which yourself as you said in the video which I dont think it‘s true, I think you knew already posting this would offend part of your audience because Ben Shapiro is already part of an Extreme side and sending a message through this song, and you gave him your audience and platform by posting it. Which send us to the 2nd point
3rd part which is the point you mentioned in 10:26 to the end of the video, If you’re not one of those camps, so please please don’t post to any of them or be fair and give your platform for both.
If you think Ben Shapiro is extreme you might be an extremist. Ben Shapiro is the most mild human being I have ever seen.
Sadly, not the worst song I've ever heard. I don't know any of these offended people either.
Everything offends everyone now
Ben Shapiro aka “Dr. Dreidel” makes one rap song. Crushes no.1 billboard. And retires. Legend.
I actually align somewhat politically, but this is a horrible song. All of this dude's songs are terrible lol.
have a good day
Autotune drivel.
You dug deep for this one
I live in CA, I don’t know any snowflakes either. I think some people watch the news way too much and forget how the real world is.
Very well said!! Keep up the great work!!!
you're absolutely right. people just want to hate the other side, the other opinion. you can tell by the other comments too. if you think the other side is the problem, you're the problem
False equivalency. One side is forming armed militias and storming capitols. The other want’s gender neutral bathrooms.
@@fsmdanimalone side is grooming our kids in media, giving billions away in foreign aid causing mass inflation and letting millions of illegal immigrants in every year. the other wants to protect the border…..Guess neither side is so perfect. 🤷♂️
ballsy move taking on this one on, Teach. appreciate you taking it as seriously as you could, as far as the music itself
Your discussion at the end was. for me, spot on. I think the last time I was offended was around 1987 o.o everyone has an extreme. Just can't imagine my life being wound up in it. I dunno...
You can't imagine if some core aspect of yourself was considered to be deviant by entire political party? Must be nice.
Many aspects of my [core] life thru the decades were considered deviant by one party or the other. Long haired hippie, biker, gay activist, AIDS activist, punk, etc. Just found no reason on a personal level to allow myself to get wound because someone else [fill in the blanks me] it. Always stood up for what I believe in, but never took it home with me n' mine, so to speak. To each their own, so I suppose it is nice in some ways. Just state of mind.@@jessejensen4204
"If my struggles aren't enough to affect me, what the hell are these other people complaining about in their lives?!"
I fought tooth n' nail for other people along with mine own etc. Gay rights, AIDS activist, punk hippie biker etc. But never brought it 'home', so to speak. Used to be more than willing to align with what i believed to be correct. But I didn't 'live it'. Complain? Sure. Human nature. Just noticed I'm responding to the wrong peron 🤣Just never allowed this to come home to roost. Otherwise, within my experience, it consumes. If we allow [position] to escalate within our every minute life I just can't see... um... since this was wrong person leave it here try figure out where my tremours took me 😅@@rikard.h

The short answer is no, the long answer is hell no
Wrong
@@zedchillman2685There is zero substance to this song or any of Tom’s music. You don’t even have to disagree with the politics to see that, it’s made purely as rage bait. That’s not art.
@@marauder_- cope and seethe
@@zedchillman2685 nah its true
I have an even longer answer but the sentiment's the same
In the same league as most rap
Thanks for being honest
Tom's music is just for shock value. People only listen just to hear it. Then they're done with it. Sorry, but it has no soul. There's no classics. He plays in it like he's a Patriot with Republican values, but it's just to sell it. He just wants downloads. There's no passion and soul in the music. Not a fan.
No clue who either of these people are, but wow, what a terrible song - both musically & lyrically. Absolutely no substance.
All the offended people are here in the comments 😂
Look up tal wilkenfield if you want a great young female bassist guitarist and vocalist who has played with some of the best in the world.
A frickin’ men!!! Both sides are crazy! Don’t watch the news either, raising kids as you say and if it’s ignorance, it’s bliss!! Can’t believe I made it to the end of that silliness, but you hit the damn nail right on the head! 😂
I like how determinedly positive you are
Apolitical people are Busy and safe... Until the shit reaches ypur town 😢
Sadly it will... It will take a while but it will...
Well played boss!!!
I’m not sure the reason you made this…
If anyone is offended then the point is made.
Michael, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and presume you’re just profoundly ignorant of what’s going on in the world around you.
I think he kept it real simple for bens sake . And for bens audience.
I like toms less popular tracks a lot more
It's pretty cringe. That's about it.
Bye though.
quite possibly the worst song ever released
Musically it's non-melodic trash. Lyrically it's trailer trash talk. LOL 😂🤣
i enjoy your videos and your analyses but i implore you to go learn about and meet some trans folks and then listen to the song again and see if you feel the same way. not sure you got the whole message there. peace to ya brother 🙏
😂 You are all a bit obtuse. It's a massive troll!
Michael, you may never see this, but I'm a long time fan and viewer. I'm a bit confused about what you were truing to say in this one. I know you dont follow politics, so you may not know who Ben Shapiro and Tom McDonald really are. Both of them, I would say are a part of the extremist on the right. Some of the things they both frequently say are downright hateful. I do have my own political views, but overall I just generally oppose any kind of hateful worldview. If me beinf uncomfortable with hate is just "being offended," then so be it. But I really think its more than that.
Appreciate you for diving into this!
GTFOH, they are not extremist.
😂😂 please, what do they say that's so hateful? Lol
Fuck sake, Michael.
I guess all the leftys on here are afraid they will have to hate Michael now judging by these comments.
You're a good man! I'm glad you understand. Think for yourself but have the maturity and patience to listen to others.
I dig the experiment.
Youre risking it for the biscuit and i think its things like this will start the conversation that will avoid the confrontation.
