I’ve seen quite a few videos testing this mic and I have to say this is by far the best. Concise, good clips and effective
Great to hear!
If I ever buy this MKE400 this year, you are the reason man! Cheers!
Good that you tested outside with multiple distance scenarios, cuz that would be the reality that creators would encounter when filming!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it!
Great tests. Would be nice to leave the testing texts on the screen during the entire test for that particular setting.
Absolutely brilliant and thank you for testing it with a variety of setups. How does the mic attach to a boom pole, do you need any additional accessories?
great tests man. seriously considering this mic cause my current one is so large and heavy with the dead cat and lyre suspension mount, want to down size. i personally think the low pass is a little to aggressive. with voice its noticeable and looking at the senn data sheet the low cut kicks in at 180 hz and is a pretty steep fall off, but for size and weight trade off i am willing to accept that. thanks for the help.
Thanks for the great comparison. Wonder how the sound difference would be between the Sennheiser MKE 200 and the Mke 400 for half the price? Thanks again. 👍
I have the previous version of the Sennheiser MKE 400 but I'll definitely be checking out this new version.
Great, let me know how it is!
Super informative video. Thanks
You're welcome!
Good review, does it works directly connected to the mic input of a desktop computer?
I was thinking of getting the rode ntg to use with camera for both inside and outdoors. But I like the mke 400 too. Which do you think is better? Maybe have to use it together with recorder because I heard canon camera doesn’t have good audio.
I think the sound quality is still pretty good from 20ft away. I’m gonna check it out! :)
Thanks Lila! Yes its pretty good even at a distance which I was surprised about. I love the sound coming from the mic
Batteries you can ‘buy from a shop’ are FAR better than rechargeable option on a mic!!
Actually sounds really good at 20ft for a mic of that size.
Hey Simon, I just find I forget to buy them and I don't like throwing batteries away. I'm going to buy some rechargable Duracell batteries for these.
@@editorskeys Ah, so it’s not a built in rechargeable battery…..?
I almost decided to buy Sennheiser MKE 400 but now I came accross shure MV88+ which sounded very good to me, now I'm super confused. Please help me decide which one to buy.
In your fairly echoey room, I preferred the Rode. Sounded fuller and eliminated more room noise. If one’s only consideration is indoor desktop casting, I would take the Rode Video Mic Pro Plus.
I thought the same thing, I was pretty surprised he didn't say/think the same
Did you edit the audio? I find mine is quiet on the 0 and -20 setting and on the +20 the self noise is pretty distracting. My camera gain is set to minimum, anything higher introduces too much noise. I love the form factor and sound, but the self noise is kinda ruining it for me.
So I would always recommend having it on zero and then adjusting the gain within your camera
When the mic is mounted on a boom, how is it wired into the camera? Some sort of simple patch cable?
Hey yes we purchased a long extension cable on Amazon
Great video, I have the Rode Video Mic Pro + I love it, but it is bulky. What do you think of this compared to the Rode mic Pro +? Do you recommend upgrading in terms of sound quality from the tests you've done @editors Keys? Would love to know.
Hi Addrian, thanks for watching! I think with what you have is already perfect, the Rode Video Mic Pro + is bulky, but is also a really good mic for all purposes and we've never seemed to have a reason for upgrade.
@@editorskeys thanks for your prompt response. I appreciate it. So you're still choosing the rode video mic pro + over the mke 400 mk 2? Appreciate you.
@@Addrian. No problem! yes, as we have both we haven't noticed that much difference in quality. Both are very good mics to have.
@@editorskeys thank you. Really appreciate it. I'll probably keep the rode mic pro + for now. Really appreciate the insight. The pro + has honestly served me super well so far.
I actually prefer AAA batteries on a device like this. This battery form factor is better for several reasons: (1) There's no down time ever. Just swap out the batteries and get back to it. (2) The device is less throw away. Eventually all rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold a sufficient charge or recharge at all. At that time we find ourselves in the position of having to try and figure out an aftermarket replacement solution or having to throw out an otherwise perfectly good piece of $200 gear. What a waste in all regards. Such tech devices don't really become obsolete, and if you see them as the kind that do you'll probably at least agree that it takes a lot longer for that to happen than many other tech devices. (3) Is it really so difficult to have the foresight to have one extra pair of AAA batteries in one's bag? They are quite small, lightweight, and cheap. Are you really going to record for 300 hours straight? After all, there's only 24 hours hours in a day; 300 hours would be, technically, 12.5 days nonstop. That's just silly. Besides all of that, if you wanted to use AAA rechargeable batteries, go for it!
hey Mac, yes some good points!
Hello everyone,
Just bought mke 400
I have Xiaomi 12 so i used an adaptor but the sould is really bad and you can hear only some noises.
What could be wrong?
Maybe very cheap adaptor?? Or what
sorry to hear that, this mic is very good so it could be the adaptor
I just purchased this MKE400 for my Sony A7C, honestly I'm pretty disappointed with the sound. I have my audio level set to 15 using +DB and LO Pass filter. Did you do any audio correction in post?
Hey we didn't do any correction in post on this video, as we just wanted to show what it sounded like, however we have created some audio plugins. Have you seen those?
(check one of our recent videos for those.)
@@editorskeys thank you I’ll check them out

I just bought mke 400.
I have xiaomi 12 so i used adaptor.
The sound is terrible and you only hear some noices .
Why is this happening?
Maybe cheap adaptor?
sorry to hear that, this mic is very good so it could be the adaptor
Mke 600 better ?
Pretty good
Glad you liked it!
Very impressive but I did like the Rode better. Cheers Steve
Fair enough! 👍 Thanks so much for your comment!
I am buying it...thanks
Good choice hope you enjoy it!
Looks like the original apple iSight webcam from back in the day
I like your accent
Thanks so much!
First!!!!
I’ve always wanted to do that 😂😂
haha!
Wow from 20ft away? or more like 10 ft? lol
Amazing Quality at 20FT !!!
Hey yes we just estimated it it was around 18ft
@@editorskeys cmon tell me you have zoom lens lol. 20 ft is 6 meters.. thats pretty far or has to be.
Rode more bassy, Sennheiser more clarity
True. But you can always add more bass in post but it is harder to add more clarity to sound. For this reason Senheiser has the edge.
@@TelevisionCrewshow can you add bass in post?
@@orjan37 using the equalizer of your editing program
@@TelevisionCrews thanks. So just increase the low frequencies will do the trick?
@@orjan37 yes but there are some programs or plug-ins which can help you do it in a more thorough way such as Sound Forge.
