  • A thinkpad for gaming? The ULTIMATE sleeper performance laptop? It had to be investigated. A Lenovo Legion? Nope! Same company, completely different team, Just the Lenovo P1 ThinkPad.
    Who’s idea WAS this anyway? Looks like it can ONLY handle presentations and spreadsheets but it is MUCH more than that. A laptop for creators? A laptop for professionals? A laptop for college? A gaming laptop with an RTX 4090? A laptop for any situation?
    Check out my review on the Lenovo P1 (6th Generation)! By the way, I still could not figure out what the ‘P’ stands for. 😊
    Even if it is from 2023 it can still play in the category of Gaming Laptop 2024. The specs of the device being reviewed below:
    - 13th Generation Intel® Core™ i9-13900H vPro® Processor (E-cores up to 4.10 GHz P-cores up to 5.40 GHz)
    - NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4090 Laptop GPU 16GB GDDR6
    - 32 GB DDR5-5600MHz (SODIMM) - (2 x 16 GB)
    - 1 TB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 Performance TLC Opal
    - 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 100%sRGB, 500 nits, 165Hz
    - 1080P FHD RGB/IR Hybrid with Privacy Shutter and Dual Microphone
    - Fingerprint Reader

    YES, it is too expensive, but it's my fault, I didn't have enough money....

      Haha, in this case, I believe ALOT of people would be at fault. 9000 CAD is just a stupid amount of money for a laptop. you could get a maxed out Razer Blade 18 for that for way less than that. But anyway, even discounted, plenty of good options for a 4090 laptop :)

    Gotta say man, this is one of the best reviews I’ve seen. Concise, encompassing, funny without constant segues or non sequiturs. Covered everything I wanted to know and didn’t have that thinly-veiled advertising veneer a lot of reviews tend to have. Keep it up.

    Loved the review! And the slapstick comedy! But it is 2024 and I clicked on the link thinking this is the latest P1 Gen 7. And you also missed to talk about battery life which is a crucial element to laptop reviews. Nonetheless dropped you a like simply for effort. 👍🏽

      haha. I really appreciate that. Thank you for the kind words. Glad you liked my work. The upcoming Gen 7 P1 would probably be one of the first laptops to sport LPCAMM2 memory - I suppose the P1 still has a future in the thinkpad lineup. These guys need to freshen up the Vantage software for it though

    I wish lenovo would just focus on making A good product rather than just many products consumers get to choose from. It makes the product selection much simpler to customers, and also they can optimise that one product to a point where it smokes its competition for brand value, and scale of manufacturing which allows lenovo to make that product cheaper in the first place.
    I still cant forget what they did to the legion 7 lineup from 2022. They were the best gaming laptops Period. But then next year, they had to remove some of its premium features, but keep the same performance and then later introduce a much more premium version , the legion 9i, which then necessitated separate manufacturing, and new materials, just to justify its ridiculous price tag, while the legion 7 still continues to offer value for money performance, just with fewer features compared to last gen.
    And with the thinkpad series, its even worse, with many different thinkpad laptops with different names at the end of its name, which makes them difficult to recommend a model to relatives wanting a business laptop, and not to mention the introduction of thinkbook series, which is just legion slim 7 just without the gaming features but same price tag.
    It seems all of the tech companies decided to gouge out customers with small nice to have features and offer not much better value better to price, which makes the entire market even more confusing than it already is, and thats why I think Macbooks are selling well because of their simplified product categorisation, even though they are overpriced and not user upgradeable!

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 28 dny

      Oh man you said it! I absolutely hated how they gutted the Legion 7 after the Gen 7 - Things were looking real good at that time especially since we had separate versions for Intel/Nvidia and Radeon/Ryzen. The Gen7 was just such a masterpiece. It literally covered all the bases. They just wanted to jack up the prices is all; which is why the Legion 9 came into view; Sure, we get a LITTLE more firepower with better thermals including a third fan and top side intakes (and a gimmicky water cooling solution) but they just charged wayyy too much man.
      I dont know if you got a chance to watch another video of mine but I think I ranted over the same things there: czcams.com/video/D7-NFoRF5Xc/video.htmlfeature=shared - check it out if you can
      Having soo many options to chose from is definitely a bit confusing for the consumers out there. And its probably only going to get worse down the line though. I am actually looking forward to reviewing the new legion 7.. not the PRO version; feels like it was a step towards the Gen 7 design (without the RGB though) _ I just cant seem to find it in white in my region as yet; hope I find one soon and share my review of it with you all :)

      @@kazmiee Already seen that video, been watching you for over a year now man!🙌🏽
      And yeah, I think this year’s legion 7 is actually great, with a slim design and great thermals, just like how it used to be with the 2021 legion 7. I wish they bought the AMD advantage versions back, although AMD themselves arent doing a great job in shipping those chips and marketing.
      I am looking forward to AMD strix Halo gaming laptops from lenovo with the same form factor as the 2023 legion slim 7, although with upgradeable internals. I hope they don’t mess this up and release a separate product category, and just make A good gaming laptop. Lenovo is in the right direction with their legion 7 lineup, hope they dont screw this the next year, just so they can upcharge for a higher tier model, or remove features to justify the possibility of increased gpu and cpu prices next year….
      Also possible Video Idea, can you talk about AMD strix halo, and what it means for the future of gaming laptop form factors in the future. I am especially concerned about the possibility of no user upgradeable ram just so you can get faster speeds from lpddr5x memory. Hope they don’t do that.

    Love this video, glad i found you. I myself own a t470s and had a ton of trouble with it, motherboard failure, wireless problems, the hinge breaking off the screen, i dont know, might not get a thinkpad again. I have to work with them at work, and well the newer TS series are pretty good, def better than hp.

      Hi Andreas. Really really glad to hear you enjoyed my content. I have T14s with the 13th gen intel from work. It... well.. it.. does the job. Hehe..wish we would have 16 inch models but oh well. The thermal throttling on the P1 was a bit dissapointing but yeah thinkpads will continue to be icons of productivity. I had the t480 in my previous job.

      @@kazmiee at my desk i got the t14 gen 1, good keyboard, screen, battery but the build quality leaves much to be desired. the company i work at is now switching to hp, while they are sometimes sturdier, but the hinges are awful, they break super easily. i like thinkpads too, so boring i can actually focus.

    over here it says this has 2 slots for an ssd, and you can configure it with 2 SSDs and a 4090

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 27 dny +1

      Really? Feels like it would be quite a challenge to have 2 sodimms and 2 pcie slots and a 4090 with a vapor chamber.. but if you have it in your region, that is pretty awesome.

    • @marcusdumitru
      @marcusdumitru Před 23 dny

      Only for the lower GPUs. 4070 for example. You don't get the vapor chamber, only the copper sink.
      I really think that a 4090 is overkill with no real benefits. The sweet spot is a 4070 with 2 M.2 slots and a 1440p display for games and productivity.

      @kazmiee  Před 3 dny

      You are quite eagle eyed eh? Yeah I have been meaning to put out a review for it but keep getting sidetracked with work. It can actually become quite noisy at full chat. I'd say louder than a desktop even at load, but I guess it does kind of work; what do you like about the Llano cooling pad?

    • @Sam-vw2be
      @Sam-vw2be Před 3 dny

      @@kazmiee Yeah, it’s quite loud.
      I love the fact that it diminishes thermal throttling and significantly increases performance (I’ve done some benchmarks, and the improvement was substantial).
      I tried to undervolt my P1 (like I did with my X1 Extreme), but it’s now locked by the manufacturer after the Plundervolt vulnerability (CVE-2019-11157).
      So yeah, it’s a little workaround-a loud one-but it gets the job done😅

      Especially their warranty / post sales servicing - it has been getting a lot of bad press; I also was victim to that with the Zenbook Pro 16x. These guys are producing so many SKUs; operations must be crazy complex to deal with quality issues
