In this episode, John from discountjuicers.com engages in a lively discussion with David, the founder of Pure Juicer. Despite sharing a passion for juicing, they present differing perspectives on various aspects of juicing and the juicers themselves. While they both acknowledge the health benefits of juicing, their debate revolves around which juicer reigns supreme in terms of design, functionality, and nutritional output.
David champions the Pure Juicer, emphasizing its engineering excellence and focus on quality materials, such as stainless steel. He highlights its two-stage hydraulic press as a superior method for extracting juice, asserting its ability to preserve nutrients effectively. On the other hand, John argues for the versatility and convenience of juicers like the Nama J2, acknowledging their plastic construction but emphasizing their accessibility and ease of use.
The conversation delves into nuanced topics such as the importance of vegetable juices over fruit juices for health, the efficacy of different juicing methods, and the optimal storage techniques for preserving juice freshness. Despite their disagreements, both John and David maintain a respectful dialogue, inviting viewers to form their own opinions and engage in the ongoing debate surrounding juicing practices and equipment.

I have had some people inquire as to the "enzyme damage to the certain nutrients in the juice" (polyphenols). Pure juicer has PROVEN it has more enzymatic activity (in general)) cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0111/7369/1473/files/household-juice-extractor-comparison-and-optimization.pdf?v=1665598809
in the juice, which on some levels, may be a good thing, as enzymes break down nutrients and create anti-cancer compounds in brassica family plants and onion family plants, for example. But also enzymes can BREAK down, and LOWER nutrients such as polyphenols. So there are reasons why you may want to have MORE OR LESS enzymatic activity in the juice. If you doubt the science that I am sharing, please refer to the article pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jf60205a058 that states, " The total phenolics ranged from 25 mg/100 ml in juices from well-oxidized pulps to 150 mg/100 ml in juices made with minimal enzymatic oxidation." In this case if total phenolics are important to you, it is important to have the LEAST oxidized pulp, as in this study it make a 6x difference. I have been juicing now for 29 years and do my best to share all the information I have learned in my videos so that YOU don't have to do all the research, experimentation and juice drinking that I have done over the years.

Great video guys! Early on when I started to juice the ultimate unicorn juicer was said to be a Norwalk two stage hydraulic press..After saving my money I finally purchased one and it was a huge disappointment in the quality of construction..$2500 for a machine that had very shoddy craftsmanship..The Pure juicer definitely took that Norwalk design into the 21st Century and brought forth a beautifully designed and crafted juicer where the Norwalk never bothered to fix its fatal flaws..There is no denying the ease of use with the Nama ..The team behind Nama seems very committed to producing a quality juicer for a Health conscious consumer.. My money would be on a Pure Juicer for long term use,Quality and Quantity of juice..We all benefit from people like David and John who are passionate about juicing and bringing forth awareness about these different aspects of juicing..As consumers we all want quality for our hard earned dollars..

I agree. That said, when Norwalk went under it would only be a matter of time before theses machines became hard to fix...if they ever broke. I would say the norwalk is built great but the Pure has MUCH thicker top and bottom plates where you can press indefinitely. Is it worth switching?? No. Wait till yours no longer operates. a.n 0:21 H@@setfreemiss

how could anyone actually say Nama is better than the pure juicer? the Nama is about making juicing much easier to do. that's its emphasis. the pure juicer is the rolls Royce of all juicers, focused on quality. it is in a league of its own. how can anyone seriously compare hardened plastic to a stainless steel machine? the significant price difference ends the debate before it begins.

Thank you John, for your vast knowledge of juicing and your unique ability to teach us the best way to achieve the most nutritious juice with the highest yields.
Unlike the slow juicers the Pure and Norwalk juicers masticate the fruit and vegetables at high speed (3,450 rpm) and oxidizes the mash and kills polyphenols
and other nutrients. As we have learned from John the Pure juicer is superior to the Norwalk with the improvements that David has made and has the highest
    yield of any juicer.
Currently I vacuum blend with my custom electric pump @ 23"Hg and enjoy yields as good as the Pure juicer using John's favorite easy to clean "Alexis Bags".
Celery juice as good as 93% yield with a minimum loss of nutrients. I have also refrigerated juice(33°F) in quart jars under Vacuum for up to 42 days and still drinkable.
This would definitely not be recommended using a food saver with less than 10"Hg Vacuum, 3-4 days would be pushing it.
    Happy juicing!

    • @applegater355
      @applegater355 Před 3 měsíci +3

The 3450 rpm is misleading because the produce does not stay in contact with cutting blade for a whole minute. At a full second in the cutting area the food would be exposed to 57rps of the blade. The food exits the cutting Shute in less than a second in my experience. The oxidation from the cutting mechanism alone is probably similar to the slower auger types in reality. Maybe even more oxidation occurs in the slow juicers due to the fact that food can be exposed to longer times in the auger/hopper juicers than a minute in my experience. Also the slow juicers always have much more foam than the high rpm of the pure juicer. Which signifies more oxygen in the juice.

hey John. Love all the videos, so much so that I just bought my first juicer. I wanted to buy the Kuvings Auto10 with your discount but they wouldn't ship to Thailand and my budget wouldn't stretch to paying about $750-800 to buy it here. So I bought a 2nd-hand Kuvings Evo 820.(for $140 !) - it makes great juice but the auger always gets badly clogged up - that slows the juicing down to a trickle and also causes pulp to accumulate in the feeding bowl because it can't slide down through the auger. It also makes the washing-up afterwards very messy!
is there anything I can do about it? Am I maybe assembling it incorrectly or is it just a fact of life with the Evo 820. I'm using spinach/kale with pineapple...or beetroot with apple/another fruit. I do try reversing it to give it a nudge. I've also tried pouring some water down to try to loosen the pulp but that doesn't work - cheers

I prefer the slow juicer and I also prefer the juice with some pulp in it, even if there is less juice at the end. It's just my opinion.
I also use the Zwilling electric vacuum pump, but not for juices, which I drink straight away. I use it to store all my foods sous vide in the refrigerator.

Nama hands down! Like John said, the best Juicer is the one you're going to use. And I don't expect anyone would have a hard time with the Nama due to its ease of use. I would purchase the Nama and then purchase the Pure pump.

As health conscious as John is, with all these juicers being made out of plastic and what we now know about plastic being leached into food, I'm curious what his views are on this. I agree with David about the warranty wars. The biggest thing to note is that a long even lifetime warranty means noting if the company goes out of business. I really, I mean really want the Pure but it's so expensive, for my needs. I fear I'd spend all that money and then end up not using it as much as I should. I have had an Omega VRT350 for many years and had used it often but it's turned into counter decoration. So for now I just drink a lot of Matcha Green Tea, which has more antioxidants than anything.
Do I see a phone jack outlet on the wall in the background? Do houses still have those? lol

At the 27th minute David's, discussions arose regarding the longevity of the Pure Juicer in the refrigerator, stemming from various investigations. This raised questions about why certain items, particularly juices, last longer when refrigerated. Typically, whole fruits endure longer storage periods compared to their juiced counterparts, as exposure to oxygen in the refrigerator accelerates deterioration. The inquiry delved into the filtration disparity between the Nama and the Pure Juicer models: the Nama allows thicker substances into the juice, which consumers often dislike, while the Pure boasts a filter to prevent this. This inconsistency prompts curiosity and warrants further exploration. Although extended shelf life in the refrigerator is generally viewed positively, it prompts reflection on the nature of the item's transformation over time and the metrics used to gauge it

1st the polyphony content can’t be measured on any machine, and it’s your opinion John that u suggest the j2 could have more of it than the Pure. As oppose to enzymes that can be measured, there r specific enzymes needed for specific GI dysfunctions and they could hurt if not measured properly for that reason. The need depends on the person balance activity. It’s a science not a hobby even though these machines r great to improving someone’s health. The fact u can increase your yield by 20% by pressing the remaining pulp from J2 into the Pure shows the superiority of Pure, it’s recycled waist at its best.
All of them r not American made unfortunately, I would choose stainless steel material over plastic even with the BPA free label. People’s health is compromised by time lacking and lifestyle that’s the price to pay. I would love to have the gut of these plastic gadgets made with stainless steel rather than plastic it would be so much better! John u mentioned of putting the ingredients in a specific order in J2 but I really don’t see the benefits since they mix in the tumbler and don’t descend like the way it was put in.
    Great show.

Norwalk is now out of business. David is an American who designed this machine in the USA after repairing norwalks for 20+ years. He decided to get these manufactured in a WORLD CLASS factory in China to keep the cost down so people could afford his juicer. He backs it up with a 12 year warranty.

  • @mooniebo2752

not everyone can afford the pure juicer. most influencers push the Nama because it has great return for them as affiliates and most can afford it. plus its easy to use. the pure juicer is also easy to use. some produce only requires pressing for example. but really, the pure juicer is for the discerning customer who is looking for highest quality juice from a lifetime machine with the best yield. why is this dumb video being made at all? does anyone truly honestly think a $400 machine beats a $2,000 machine?
