The knicks are setting up an interesting team, replacing a wishy washy starter with a great starter is a good move towards becoming contenders. It of course depends on them attracting free agents, probably filling up the bench and getting a good starting C. And yes getting a true nr 1 via trade or as free agent.
Julius Randle is not to blame for RJ Barrett's stunted growth. Way too many times Randle will kick the ball out to RJ, only for him to brick a wide open 3. And he's not a good defender either. He's average at best. That again is not Randle's fault. This is exactly why the Knicks made this move, to get a more consistent wing player.
As a Knicks fan, it was time for RJ to go. Serviceable mostly but I think he had hit his ceiling and we desperately needed a defensive wing.. As far as Quick, I will absolutely miss him a ton but at least we didn’t give up first round picks. I think trade is just wheels moving for future moves. I don’t hate it at all. Plus we now have a backup PF finally in Precious. Hart is no damn PF.
i also think that Quickley was probably gonna walk in the off season, and trading for OG brings some defense Knicks didnt have. tbh w trade for both teams imo
I think Toronto won the trade tbh. They know they have to rebuild so they snag a hometown kid with a high ceiling and trade a player whose potential looks like it peaked so they don’t have to pay him. Having RJ will definitely hype the city up and boost sales everything related to him and if he reaches his potential then him and Scottie could be a pretty good duo in a couple of years. Plus quickley is a steal but I wouldn’t be suprised if he leaves in free agency after his contract.
The nice thing for the Knicks is they still have enough assets to make another trade. Fournier's contract with a team option, Grimes, and in about a week both Hart and DiVincenzo are available as well as all their firsts, including 4 in 2024. Hartenstein and Achiuwa are also both expiring so depending on the trade they might make sense as well.
To me this is an indication that the Knicks are going for a big move at the trade deadline otherwise this trade seems very weird in context of where they currently are and my assumption is they are going to pull the trigger on a D Mitch trade which idk if that is necessarily the best, but we will have to see.
7:30 - I think the Raptors has a top 6 protected pick owed to the SAS for the Poetl trade - So i think they cant quite do a proper rebuild unless you properly commit for the tank which i have a feeling Masai wont do. If you think that Detroit/Washington/Spurs/Portland/Hornets will pretty much be the bottom 5 teams, it really does seem unlikely Raptors will get their pick.
I suspect the plan is not to tank to save the pick. Losing and finishing bottom 6 sounds easy, but when you actually want your team to fail that badly in a season it's harder than you think. Detroit, Wash, Char, SA are already too far down. Too late to catch them. Portland is pretty bad, and they'll probably move Grant and/or Brogdon so they might be too far gone. And who knows what Utah or Memphis are gonna do. IQ + Barnes with no more distraction over the OG trade means they should win a few games. And in 3 of the past 4 lotteries the 6th worst team has been bumped by the 7th. So they might actually have a better chance at winning a top 4 pick in a 7-8 berth than finishing bottom 6. Food for thought.
I love OG, but i feel like a lot of his value to teams is more so the *idea* of what he could be in the ideal environment vs what he's actually been up to now in his career. Seems like a small overpay by the knicks to me, but he def fits better than RJ and IQ did with what the knicks currently have
Where did they overpay though? It's all what you think of the players, quickly is a nice player with potential but that's all so far. They have a boatload of picks so a 2nd doesn't hurt and OG is an upgrade
Rj Barrett is one of those players that can randomly be an all star one year, he has the potential. Now we just need to see if the raptors can unlock that potential.
@@alexanderg.i1991 Lowry isn’t even comparable to RJ. RJ is a bad on ball & off ball offensive player (which means he sucks on offense as a whole) & a good defender. How the hell r the Raps gonna fix that??? The only who can fix that is RJ.

Exactly, evereybody said barrett was trash but he wasn’t being developed and its impossible for any player to grow and develop next to randle. Barrett was so much better when randle was wack at first but once he got back into his ways RJ fell off and nobody makes that connection
The best part of this trade is the Raptors got rid Flynn and Precious, those two bums don’t belong in the NBA and getting a 2nd round pick for them is amazing.
I think the Knicks were holding RJ’s potential back. I watched him in an exhibition game between team Canada and China (before he was in the NBA) and he looked like the best player on team Canada (this was 2019 and a lot of the best Canadian players didn’t play). I think him going back home should make him comfortable enough to bring the best out of him.
That’s a wild take. Holding him back? You probably haven’t watched much RJ since that exhibition game if you think that’s correct. Also bringing up an exhibition game from four almost five years ago you would find a ton of players that you could say are being held back.
@@bullscott12 he was literally doing these same things he’s doing now in the beginning of the season. Then again in the CLE series last post season. He does it sporadically.
@@liferealgood I don't care about how he is playing right now honestly. I am talking about scheme. Knicks are one of the slowest teams in transition while the raptors have scored the most transition points this year. Knicks are heavy iso while the Raptors aren't.
