Didn't you say you bought an apartment, and like advice your people also, to use credible real estate companies, not individuals you meet online.
Go for well know companies with registered business, addresses and offices, there are lots of them in SA.
I don't get it how you guys get scammed.
Plus you have The Real South Africa which helps Americans to relocate to SA, they work with lots of local real estate agents.

1. They don’t listen; they talk more than they listen.
2. They don’t know what to share in public and what to keep private.
3. They always think they know everything and always feel they are right.
4. They only have the ability to describe what they think, experience, or see; they lack the ability to think logically beyond their experience or perception.
5. They rely more on emotional reactions to their experiences than on mental assessment of realities.
6. They seem to be more impulsive and reactive than reflective and calculative.
7. They are careless in walking through danger and later cry racism when faced with the consequences.
8. When you alert them to danger, they think you’re being stereotypical.
9. They have a carefree attitude and lack the ability to take precautions.
10. They rely on solving a problem rather than preventing one from happening.
11. They have a low tolerance for inconvenience and are less disciplined.
12. They cannot differentiate between being positive and being in denial of reality.
13. They are level-headed and don’t listen to words of wisdom; they only want to do what they think is right.
14. They only listen to those who appeal to their emotions than to those who challenge their reasoning.
15. They lack the ability to learn from experience, either from their own or from others'.
16. They are obsessed with fun, pleasure, and adventure rather than engaging in seclusion and sober reflection.
17. They prefer immediate consumption of all they have over delaying gratification or making provisions for the future.
18. They put so much energy on fighting the consequences of their negligence than on preventing themselves from becoming a victim: prevention is not better than cure in their dictionary.
