"Instead all he can do is imagine that pint at the end of the session - that cooling, lagery swallow - and that first suck on a Lambert" so crude yet so poetic
A Lambert is a cigerette brand in the UK - Lambert and Butler, but we just say to each other, "G'us a Lambert". Hope this helps you enjoy M&W snooker commentary even more now, the lagery swallow bit is my favourite bit of this very funny take on 70/80s style snooker commentary. 👍😊
They nailed it man , snooker in the 70's and 80's they are frighteningly close. Deffo their best work. Gotta watch at world champs time. Thank you Dave and Rob!
I don't know why these characters are so unpopular, as far as I'm concerned this is some of M+W's absolute best work. Edit - As excited as I am to receive replies to my comments, I'd love to point out to those of you still trying to engage me on this topic that this comment was posted 7 years ago.
We've all been there once we've had a few. Makes sense, too: you're nice and relaxed, you're much more amenable to trying new things, and you don't have to worry about not being able to get a boner. 🤣
I hope you all know that some of these lines were taken from actual snooker commentators talking about Paul Hunter, they would actually say these things and at the time we would laugh and repeat them, “ The lovely Paul Hunter what an Adonis, and his beautiful girlfriend sat watching this marvellous man..........”. And now it’s great to see these two noticed it!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Andrew T Why are people so maudlin over people they have never met, even in reference to a comedy sketch they are thinking of death and mourning. You must have a very miserable life. R.i.p.
Andrew T No I just get sick of people’s false sentiments, was watching Gary Moore guitar clip, astonishing! People’s comments were= r.i.p. Gary. He’s with the Angels now. Life taken too short. This is not the forum for eulogies.
God I miss those dimpled beer mugs, Packets of peanuts and all the other things like this in real pubs. Haven't seen a good pub like that since I was 10.
They're still out there, you just have to know where to look. Also, I have a couple of the dimpled beer mugs at home (and a few Steins haha!). Beer just tastes better out of them for some reason..
the delivery of "oh and thats a bad miss" gets me every time
exactly like Joe Johnson actually says it.
@@kardRatzinger Ted Lowe more likely.
Me too lol
And that's a cracking pot.
It's funny 'cos it's true 😂
(remember the darts players sketch with Mel Smith?) 🤣
"you could put a gold fish in that glass.....and it wouldn't even die!"
"It's like Christmas, isn't it?"
"It _is_ Christmas."
*"OH SHIT, THE KIDS!!!"*
"Oh shit the kids!!!" My husband and I say that line ALLLLLLLL the time! XD We still crack up!!! Best sketch ever.
I used to say that line with my cousins!
Made me all melancholy about me dad. He were often away at Xmas. Pissed asleep.
"Instead all he can do is imagine that pint at the end of the session - that cooling, lagery swallow - and that first suck on a Lambert" so crude yet so poetic
Totally mate, my favourite line to quote, it never gets old.
What is a Lambert? Nothing came up in my search for it.

Look at that. You could put a goldfish in that glass. And it wouldn't even die.
As a huge fan of snooker, I can attest that in the old days, players did smoke and drink constantly, and so did the commentary.
Pot black was a riot
They also fudge packers?
@FifteenQs :: Not knowing anything about snooker, I appreciate your comment !
Better days
So did golfers and bowlers. Great athletes then.
Despite watching the sketch numerous times I just noticed the “no smoking” sign in the back
I’ve watch this so many times and I didn’t notice it til I read your comment
Bloody hell... That snooker drinking game at 1:40 is GENIUS.
I'm in awe. 😮
I want to recreate that haha
It's the best thing on TV
"Peter Ebdon, in particular, looks ridiculous". Brilliant.
David Mitchell’s delivery of each line is impeccable .
These two really do transform when they play these particular characters
"basking in the light of twin suns" is one of my favourite phrases.

Eddie Temple how are they unpopular
Agreed.
110% love the cap off with dog poker
one of the very few sketches from them that I just can't watch. Don't find it funny at all.
I didn't like the snooker skits when I first started watching, but now I enjoy them.
funny how quickly it turns from drunk jokes to homoerotic jokes
We've all been there once we've had a few.

RIP Paul Hunter

liddy paul guess what. It turns out people can write what they want in the comments section. There are no rules you bellend.
They did a lot of very good stuff but these two characters are up there with the very best of their work
The best characters Mitchell and Webb did.
They must have drunk so much cold tea doing these
David Mitchell is amazing. Can't get enough of him.
Robert Webb is class too. Great double act.
@@YouAintGotNoTegridyBoi They are good yeah, but they aren't nearly as great as Fish & Chip or Pin & Cushion.
1:39 Best sketch in my opinion.
He has to refill the glass on the black spot XD
"Not a look to be taken lightly especially at around 2am in the morning on the streets of Derby if the media are to be believed..."
As an ex-smoker, Mitchell's way of smoking in this character just makes me crave for one cigarette.
don’t.
Delicious smoky cigarettes
Damn, I wish this show was still in production. So much funnier than SNL.
Not as funny as Mad TV
@@zapkvr lmao madtv and SNL might have a sketch or two but they are overall terrible
this is pure gold always
I love this humour. Grew up watching snooker in 70s and it was just like this 😂😂😂😂😂
They need to come back and do this show again. It's so much better than the sketch shows we have in the states.
Logan green oh shut up you racist boomer
@@logangreen3616 shut up
At least you get QI which don't in Australia

@@St_Rizla Haha they're great, just feels better to drink out of them than a normal glass
"lagery swallow" most beautiful prose ever:D
"Ah shit! The kids!"
'And Terry Mc Carthy has gone.....very still...and is that a tear I see in eye of his opponent?'
These two look the most fun you can have after the age of 30
Underrated Mitchell and Webb characters.
He is a friend of mine. He is a sexy, young friend of mine. He is my sexy, young friend.
Oh and thats a bad miss
I love their cozy broadcast booth
I really love the aesthetic of the background. Don't know why
Takes me back to being a kid and going round an older gens house. They'd have the same colours and decor styles as this - everyone did back then
Love these characters .
Never seen or heard of this show , hilarious 🤣
This was the best thing in their sketch shows
When they called Dog poker
So, so funny 😂
(reminds me of the NTNON darts sketch!) 😆
"Another double vodka."
"Eight."
Saw them live in 2005. Great sketches
simply superb
Hehe! I think I pissed myself little bit there :)
That was brilliant.
This is seriously the funniest thing I've ever seen
''i think i might of over done it with the yeast''
xD
I do wonder with the Headband stuff they're doing a subtle homage to Paul Hunter?
God, I wish American bars used those dimple glasses, they're absolutely fantastic.
They’re called ‘jugs’
@@fenderiffico Oo-er missus!
@@djackmanson You've no idea how hard I laughed at that reference. Thanks for brightening my day.
They’re banned in the U.K. now. All pints have to be safety glasses. Ones that shatter like windscreens.
@@CorvoFG Health and safety won't even let you glass anymore? What is this world coming to?
That guy he cut was basically asking for it.
I love the line "Not a look to be taken lightly, especially on the streets of Derby at 2am in the morning....."
Good quality everytime.
"...cooling lagery swallow."
A classic !!
Can we have these two doing commentary now on snooker? Willie Thorne makes me far angrier than snooker should.
I don't know what it is about these characters but this shit is hilarious/comfy as hell
twin suns. great.
Crying with laughter so much my sides hurt.
The best part was he yelled "AH SHIT" into the microphone haha.
At least they don't shout out, "Where's the cue ball going?"
you could put a goldfish in that water, and it wouldn't even die 😂😂😂😂
I would suggest that David Mitchell would make a great Penguin in a Batman movie
It would be very creepy to hear the words: "Oh and that's a bad miss..." as the villain steps out of the shadows.
06:28 - My homebrew's like that!
They drinking a form of home brewed beer that went horribly wrong, hence the copious amounts of sugar!
"OOOHHH AND THATS A BAD MISS"
fuckin love it
It just goes to show, you can't be too careful
5 star comedy all the way
Oh thats a bad miss 🤣😍
Every time the World snooker championship are on I think of these sketches.
The smoking, drinking and eating.
Very good, although I was hoping to hear the ultimate snooker commentator soundbyte, "where's the cue ball going???"
They work it into the end of part 3.
lol.. "i might have overdone it with the yeast"
This vid is about David's love for watching snooker. I heard he liked to watch it somewhere. Oooh and that's a bad miss! My young sexy friend.
1:42 Brilliant 😂🙈
fucking love these guys! haha
my favourite characters
"shit the kids"
...8!
"Laaate niiiiite dogpoka!"
ironically nowadays snooker commentary is generally excellent -
I'm sure John Virgo and Dennis Taylor are sitting with a pint and a cig up on the commentary box
21 people have just had a “bad miss”
Oh shit! The kids!
1:28
There's just no better way to remember
Better times.
Look at that you can put a goldfish in that glass and it wouldn't even die.
It's like Christmas isn't it?
m&w classic
nice
+Mark Hassell It is my Christmas tradition to always come back to this video.
"It is Christmas..."
"Oh shit the kids!!!"
Dude I want that job 😄😄😄😄😄
I love this sketch !
I like the way he sunk the black.
Just thinking about these characters cracks me up
oh and thats a cracking pot i agree my fav work by mitch n webb
I'm assuming Chris Leicester is a reference to Paul Hunter
Or Selby.
ah shit, the kids!
21 people had a bad miss.
You know what this reminds me of? The commentators at Wimbledon when Federer is playing😂
Peter Ebdon is still working on that 12 break
fucking hillarious
6:34 Dalek commentary win
Look at that. You could put a goldfish in there. And it wouldn't even die.
And of course, they're in their twenties.
gagging for a pint now.
OH SHIT THE KIDS!
