    My video on VMP Pressing Plant News (May 15, 2024):
    • VMP Pressing Plant Fut...
    The startup of any record pressing plant is big news. This plant has been in the works since 2021 as a result of increasing demand from the pandemic and inadequate pressing capacity to keep up.
    The subscription based "Vinyl Me Please" leaders thought a plant that could prioritize their needs and provide flexibility quick turnaround was the best way to control their own destiny.
    Unfortunately, optimistic starting date target kept slipping as the difficulty of starting a new plant, in a state which had no previous approval experience, proved to present a bigger challenge than anticipated for all parties.
    The delays and cost challenges came into 2024 and the VMP leadership left as an investor with a new investor taking the reigns to capitalize on their work to start pressing here in Q2 of 2024.
    And so this new pressing plant changed names and ownership and is ready to start pressing records!
    Join me for Part 1 of a 2-part series on this new plant. in part 1, we speak to the leadership of the facility about the history and the status of the facility.
    Part 2 will present my plant tour of the facility.

    This is Charles from Driver 8 Records. Great information here. The most exciting news is that Dave and Gillian will be pressing some records soonish.

    I'm glad to hear Dave Rawlings is still involved. Can't wait to finally see Gillian Welch's "Time (The Revelator)" on vinyl.

    Great video David. With David Rawlings involved this should be an A1 product, his releases on ACONY have been nothing short of superb, he cares about sound and quality. Gary is one of the best!

    Good work to enlighten us on the mysterious mile high pressing plant.
    Thanks.
    Couldn’t think of better ownership, passion and experience.
    Best luck to all

    I had not heard that David and Gary were the new operators of the plant! This is the best outcome possible IMO, as their proven history of producing the highest quality vinyl is well known. Excited to soon be able to both purchase & hear the first pressings from the plant, and add to my collection of David & Gillian’s music on vinyl at the same time! Can’t wait!

    Really nice work David (& Brad). Great to hear directly from Paramount Pressing, answering several questions I had on the project. I am only familiar with David Rawlings from his music work with Dawes, Ryan Adams, and a few others. Will be curious to see the early production outputs of the plant and outside of DR & Gillian Welch’s music, who’s next, so to speak. Great “Excusion” for the community. ✌🏻

    Sounds like the decision of the “prior owners” to put the plant right in the city of Denver rather than a few miles away in a more suitable area is giving the team a lot of headaches.

      According to Chuck Rozanski of Mile High Comics, since the legalization of weed, the prices of commercial buildings has skyrocketed as many were converted into grow rooms. I'm guessing this contributed to the morass of problems.

    You know, it has been a long time since record pressing plants have been owned and operated by major record companies. In modern times, maybe about the only record company which will have it's own record pressing plant will be Mofi. There is also QRP which was created to press records for Analogue Productions' re-issues. The days of major record labels having their own record pressing plants is over. But, they knew that to survive they had to take in outside jobs from other record labels. QRP knows this and hopefully Paramount will follow suit.
    Great informative video! Thank you!

    Great to hear that albeit slooowly, the new ownership has a plan and is getting there. Sounds at least 3 summers away before an average enthusiast will just be able to pop in for a visit. Best of luck to Paramount Pressing!

    Very good video Dave. Nice update to a not so surprising (for folks like you & I w/ MFG experience of some sorts), continuing story with opening ANY new plant much less one w/ caustic materials in production processes and a downtown, populated city area.

    Hopefully they can start operating at full speed!! Sounds like VMP who has backed out of their investment in this plant is in a lot of trouble Hope they don’t go under!

    250 operating days a year--1 eight hour shift--about 500 records an hour. Sounds reasonable.

  • @Licoricedisc

    They have a "re-grind room"... so... they will be using recycled vinyl in their pressings?

    • @SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion
      @SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion  Před měsícem +4

      The flash cut of the record is the most common source of regrind. Some records that fail sound quality have the labels punched out and the vinyl recycled. Every plant can have an element of regrind available if the CUSTOMER wants that lessened expense, but there is only a small % that is regrind. Top tier vinyl (SuperVinyl, Clarity, etc.) is pure.

    i wonder if the altitude will have any bearing on the record pressings i know baking and boiling water does

  • @matthewfurst7938
    @matthewfurst7938 Před měsícem

    Seems like VMP should have stuck with it just a little longer, and they could have had an excellent plant to press their exclusives and records of the month at. Now they are likely out millions of dollars with nothing to show for it.

      The legal process will have to churn to show what really happened here. Some dots don’t seem to connect at this point, but the legal discovery process will shed light I’m sure.

    • @matthewfurst1268

      Yes this is true. Seems like there was some major chicanery at the VMP executive level

    David, Also at Boston (great album upon release) concert 76 or 77 you were nice they sucked I think New Haven or Waterbury, CT. I'm surprised knowing business as you do, let's set up a uranium mine without any knowledge of restrictions within a property? What is Jilliann's background, not in selecting a location conducive to vinyl manufacturing? Sounds like a bunch of snowflake ideas! Ask Chad about making records to produce a profit, let's make 25 different configurations of one album and you can see it on the press, ugg! Chad hates box sets of the same records! Colorado hates chemicals (lacquers) baths, first question to Town officials before investing, you can if its other peoples money! Great that Rawlings and Welch are picking up the pieces, remember its manufacturing not a club or click to have pop ups! Quality is NUMBER 1 today no matter what your making that's what everyone wants and willing to pay extra, your never disappointed buying the best!

      I think some don’t see the practical pitfalls of dealing with a business in a city of such high regulatory constraints. They wanted to be in the same town as VMP it appears.
