If the Flyers back then played today they would of never gotten into the playoffs or won many regular season games from all the suspensions and 2 man disadvantages they would have been given - It wasn't just the Flyers who played that brand of hockey - Ed Snyder built the team that way because he was sick of it happening to them first. It's the fault of the NHL which should of cracked down on that stuff long before it did - If I wanted to watch the WWE or UFC I would of bought a ticket to those instead. Salming is not a fighter so I'm more embarrassed for Schultz and impressed with the courage of Borje.
This was Salming's second game in the NHL. Not like he was some established superstar. No one outside of the Toronto front office knew what kind of player he was at the time.

In fairness, Schultz had 20 goals that season. Legit player.
Guaranteed if Schultz - like any Flyer - was getting beat in a fight, the rest of the Flyers would jump in, hence the third-man rule.
Only 5 Leafs had more goals than Schultz that season. Not fair of the tough Salming to pick on a skill player like that.
