Because it's sort of a slang word for informal situations. Most people that are learning indonesian learn the formal speech I guess. So dong is mostly used by natives
lemme explain it better. 'dong' is like one of those phrases that has no meaning whatsoever. having explained that, it's a phrase that always used in conversatuon, when you want to emphasized something. Iya dong= Why, of course. I should say it's more like a , emphasizing, utterance remark than a actual word. it's not even registered in the Official dicryionary. other exemplary words like these are kok, used when you express Astonishment/ surprised. or sih: an explanatory remark
grasping the context and when to use dong/ kok is something u acquire by getting in a Indonesia conversation 😞 I just got ditched by my GF 😮 kok?! 😢feelssadman 🫡 it's OK bud. meant-to-be must be meet just sound "kok" out to express surprise/wonder when you reciprocate, yeah, so it's not a textbook phrase 😅
It's a slang that almost no foreigners who learn Indonesian for the first time would use. It's VERY informal, and it's used widely by the natives. So it's always very surprising to know foreigners learn Indonesian THAT FAR and deep.
"dong" in Indonesia is like slang. I think, like "of course" or "for sure". Example "tentu saja bisa = Of course I can" you can say "bisa dong = i can dong" haha. Hope u understand my explanation

OK Ryan, thats it, you've hit your peak, speaking the 'Dong' without a second thought.
