Lyrics:
[Robert Zubrin]
Mars is the next logical step
In our space program
It's the challenge that's been staring us in the face
For the past 30 years
It has water, it has carbon,
It has a 24 hour day
It has geothermal energy
Mars is a place we can settle
[Carl Sagan]
There is a giant rift in its surface
5,000 kilometers long
There is a volcano as wide as Arizona
[Zubrin]
So there's the choice in life
One either grows or one decays
Grow or die
I think we should grow
[Sagan]
Mars is a world of wonders
[Brian Cox]
It has canyons, river valleys,
and giant ice sheets
[Sagan]
Mars is a world of wonders
[Zubrin]
It shouldn't be humans to Mars in 50 years
It should be humans to Mars in 10
We either muster the courage to go
Or we risk the possibility of stagnation and decay
We've got cosmic radiation
Zero gravity
Martian dust storms
Back contamination
But these are dragons that we can take on
[Sagan]
In our time we have sifted
The sands of Mars
Established a presence there
And fulfilled a century of dreams
[Cox]
The Mars rovers have really
Captured our imaginations
They genuinely are explorers
In the old-fashioned sense
[Zubrin]
If you put out a call
For volunteers for the first crew to Mars
They'd be lined up coast to coast
(refrain)
[Cox]
Mars is a dry frozen version of our home
Covered in red dust and sand
[Penelope Boston]
At one time
In the ancient past
Mars was very similar
To the conditions of early earth
[Zubrin]
There will always be people with new ideas
On how humans should live together
[Cox]
We now have "eyes" and "ears" on the surface
[Zubrin]
What's left after you go is
The good you've left behind
You have to believe in hope
You have to believe in the future
There are more and more people coming around to the point of view that
A positive future for humanity requires human expansion to space
(refrain)
We're at a crossroads today
We either muster the courage to go
Or we risk the possibility of stagnation and decay

These videos are one of the root reasons why I've become a Mechanical Engineer. They led me to find Sagan's cosmos, speeches by Feynman, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Robert Zubrin, etc. which inspired me to pursue a career in space development.
Hope you make it to nasa one day
+Kevin McGowan Good luck! I'm glad to hear that. They have also had quite an impact on my life as well. It might sound silly and cheesy but they really help me see the beauty and "magic" that does exist in the world, making it a bit easier for me to want to stay a while longer. They really can provoke such intense feelings.
meet too big fella... I'm a quantum physicist .
Wow. I wish all kids that see this would do like you. It would totally change the world inna good direction. Like the good way
Kevin, that is absolutely wonderful. We need great minds like yours to help us further our knowledge and give us courage to expand our horizons. One day we will eventually leave Mother Earth and swim in that beautiful star ocean. It's because of your dedication that we will one day do this. I'm so glad that another person feels so deeply moved by these songs and help them achieve what many would feel is impossible. Goddess Bless you, Kevin. Continue to help us take the next tenuous steps into our cosmos.
Who here in 2020?
"It shouldn't be humans to Mars in 50 years, it should be humans to Mars in 10"
*checks date of video... 2010*
@Cristi K24 by Elon Musk .
He was advocating for humans to head to Mars by 2020, not predicting it. There were never any plans at that time. We didn't miss some deadline. He gave that statement before commercial spaceflight was even a thing. Much has changed, and there are already multiple plans in motion. Also, he was advocating government to do this. That longer appears to be the likely case.

I wish i could of met carl sagan.
such a beautiful thinker.
Hello! It's such a wonderful pleasure meeting one of my fans!
We can do science and with it, we can improve our lives. A phrase I said for quite some time now. It's good to have logical thinkers like you, to support science.
kobal123
No. I'd rather not.
kobal123 Respect the dead
Carl Edward Sagan
Tell me why no one went to the moon for nearly 50 years.
JWPemperor
I am not saying that it's aliens...
But it's aliens.
Carl Sagan sounds even more epic in auto-tune xD
man so beautifull
I like Sagan but in auto tune mf sounds like Kermit the Frog lol
Is that a 6 year old CZcams comment?
True😄
kermit the frog
It boggles my mind that in my lifetime there will more than likely be a human being stepping foot onto another planet.
It brings and indescribable feeling.
"In our time we have sifted
The sands of Mars
Established a presence there
And fulfilled a century of dreams"
Love this part, and love Carl Sagan. He made me go into physics, he showed me that science is much more than what we are taught in school
i can't put in words how much i love everything about Symphony of Science. Not only are the words mixed together perfectly, the beats are always spot on and even the videos are art by themself. Huge bonus for including all the names of the scientists etc. And of course, these are more educational and interesting than most of the classes in school.
FR!!
It’s amazing! How am only now finding this channel!
I love how passionate Robert Zubrin is about this stuff. It's inspiring.
"One either grows or one decays. Grow or die."
Blunt impact wisdom, wielded like a sledgehammer weighted down with leaden truth.
This is the best symphony of science.
When I hear "Mars is a world of wonders", all I can think now is "Tell that to Mark Watney" (the main character from the novel/movie "The Martian")
+Adrian Todd "Fuck you, Mars."
the way MelodyOfSheep makes Carl Sagen say "Mars is a world of Wonders" It sounds like World of Flynders. My favorite track!
My nephew asks what is mars i say "Mars is a world of wonders"
Nice.
Sagan and Cox in one video. My 2 biggest inspirations...
I can't thank you enough.
00:43 grow or die? I think we should grow.
Listen to it again. He says "grow or die? I think we should grow."
No. He says "grow or die? i think we should grow."
that's funny... I could have sworn He says "grow or die? i think we should grow."
+Shreyas Sudhaman I triple checked and it says "I THINK SHREYAS SHOULD GO OR DIE ....I think he should DIE!!!"
Professor Cox's gentle beautiful soft voice is absolutely beautiful auto-tuned, as he already has a slight sing-song to his speech, much like Sagan. I absolutely cannot thank you enough, Melodysheep for helping create such relaxing, inspiring and dreamy pieces.
Does anyone else have a tear come to their eye when you hear all these great people trying to help us achieve these goals?
More Brian Cox, Please!! I love this one!!
There are very few songs which move me so much, I have tears in my eyes every time I listen to them. This song is one of them
0:27 ahh it would have been so satisfying if he said "Mars is a place we can stay" to rhyme nicely with the previous line
yes, it will be more perfect
RIP Opportunity, a true Martian.
And to think, if it wasen't for the dark ages we could have been on mars by now. Thanks relgion~
Looan Dooers 'Hate not ones beliefs, simply the ignorance born from it'
The issue of the cause of the European dark ages aside: On the cosmic and evolutionary time-scales, the difference between beginning to set up a sustainable human presence on Mars now and a few hundred years earlier is insignificant. The important thing is that we've been able to get to this point without destroying ourselves first. The fact that we have makes me feel pretty okay with every part of the chain of human history that's brought us to this point.
And the alexandrian library...WHHYYYYYYYYYY??!!!
@Mikołaj K omg stfu about capitalism. It's the only thing keeping the world working
I love the piano arrangement on this one, and the lyrical sentiment. Goosebump inducing. Thank you.
Melodysheep, you are pure awesome. Your work is amazing!
no days of me gone without hearing this song. its my ALARM TONE for wakeup in the morning and made my DAY a GOOD DAY ever.
THANK YOU MELODYSHEEP..Lots of LOVE from INDIA
Next time someone tells me that science is a religion, I'm probably going to agree, and claim this playlist as my hymn book. I find far more beauty and spiritually uplifting passion here than those horrid songs I had to sing in the holiness churches when I was a kid and then the mormon church when I was an adult!
Science isn't a religion it's infinite knowledge
And religions claim to be knowledge of the infinite.
@@kellywilson-lawson1857 Slight correction, science is the pursuit of infinite knowledge. Religion simply claims to have it already.
Amen!
Science is what can actually give you freedom, hope, power, and joy. Its beautiful, awe inspiring and should be deeply revered.
You're amazing for taking the time to post that link. Thank you.
I love the intro to this song. So much. I could listen to it on loop all day.
I like Zubrin, but he always looks pissed or annoyed.
Todd Pratt
On that, I agree
Lisa Leigh the only difference between a genius and a crazy person is an audience....
He's upset that we're not on Mars already. He's been pushing for it for decades, and the space program never made a serious try at sending humans there. I understand his frustration--for a fraction of what we've spent on war in the last decade we could easily be there. I still think it will happen, but by then Zubrin will be too old to go, and he's furious about that.
You seen NASA's budget lately? I'm pissed too..
A lot of people look angry or annoyed when they concentrate, I'm similar in that regard. I look like I'm chewing rocks when I'm trying to solve an issue, a lot of people comment on it.
wow! how have i not seen this before! been loving melodysheep since you came out with Colorpulse, and have been DEEP into zubrin and his ideologies lately. FUCKING FANTASTIC
GREAT TRACK! Brilliant work as usual!
Thank You "melody Sheep" for making learning fun again. All your videos are not just informative, but engaging and entertaining as well, thank you again keep it up!
Chill bumps. No matter how many times I watch it, goosebumps!
yay, I'm a world of wonders :D
A/S/L?
DrNemmo 4.5bill/Male/Sol System
grealalal if you actually stated the coordinates in the known universe for mars it would've been more funny
gtas321 there are such things?!
Aw, yes you are Mars!
Best music video ever. Hiking Vallis Marinaris will be tremendous!
that still freeks me out.. amazing
I hate how people who are against spending our time inhabiting Mars, say that there are difficult problems stopping us and it isn’t worth it.
We have solved 100s of problems hindering our survival and adapted to the impossible over thousands of years. We can do it!
These are the same people who sit at home and turn into vegetables in front of their TV for a lifetime. The people that would never travel to another country. The people that would never venture to anywhere they didn't already know, or know exactly what would happen. Humans are dreamers and survivors. Fortunately, the fact that people like this have always existed has never stopped humanity from exploring.
11 years later and we have the most advanced space robot ever successfully landing on Mars!
Yeesssss
Preservarance ❤️
Spirit ♡ and Oppy. They will be greatly missed :/
@@Adi-op1eq yes, and the first mars rover sojourner was best ❤️❤️❤️
You are so right. I second that emotion.
This video gives me hope yet in our progression as a species. when carl sagan said "mars is a world of wonders" at first i didnt understand. how could a desolate place offer us anything. than i looked beyond the cosmetic face of mars and looked at the possibilities. Mars is beautiful.
We (Humans NOT Robots) must go to Mars! Yep weak magnetic field and gravitational weakness compared to Earth... OK. But come on, Apart from the Moon, Mars is Earths closest experiment, before we can consider any future Space flight, to all the habitable 'Earth Like' planets, much further away. The Case for Mars & Zubrin - Passionate Pioneer, who totally has my vote!
Let's terraform that shit.
Let's not terraform Mars. Let's go and mine out the entirety of Ceres and rotate large cylinders. You'd get hundreds of times Earth's area...
I'm not saying you'd do it really fast or anything, you'd have loads of time.
You can get the oxygen from a variety of places. If we master fusion, we could harvest the gas/ice giants and GAIN energy as we create oxygen, and then combine it with hydrogen for water. Same for nitrogen and most other elements... Until you get to iron, but if I recall, that's the heaviest element in biology, so we should be fine.
The VAST majority of the mass of these habitats will be shielding. Even so, from a mass perspective they are more efficient than planets.
And if we don't master fusion, there's enough water and ice in the moons of Jupiter alone that we could easily support hundreds of billions of people.
Except tritium has a half life of only twelve years. There's not much of it ANYWHERE.
No, we're looking to fuse anything into anything. Mainly hydrogen/deuterium into helium. But helium can be fused into higher elements with hydrogen/itself. This process, should we master it, is the energy of the stars themselves. Then, we can get elements all the way up to iron while gaining energy.
And most of the shielding could be hydrogen, which is extremely abundant...
For the immediate future, yes. But I'm not referring to the immediate future. Or the near future. I'm referring to technology that is possible. It isn't even truly required, of course. But it would be a great hthing to have. Hell, we don't even NEED to use fusion for it, if we're willing to lose energy while transmuting elements. It's totally doable, and potentially very worthwhile, if we get a crap-load of extra energy. Using particle colliders you can transmute elements, and a few other devices can do it as well. It's how we make plutonium from uranium. That's if we have a large amount of extra energy...
In fact, some groups are pursuing proton-boron fusion.
Building machines to sustain that heat may not be necessary, if we can use it in some sort of pulse, like cars. Car engines cannot sustain the heat in their combustion chambers, and yet they are able to get high temperatures in said chambers. This is because it's only hot for a very short period of time. There simply isn't enough time for the heat to transfer over.
Again, it's not totally necessary, but it would certainly help out quite a bit. For example, Ernest Rutherford transmuted nitrogen into oxygen back in 1919 (almost 100 years ago). It was likely only a very small number of atoms, and probably took a lot of energy at that... but it's doable, and we can still fuse the lighter elements to get energy out of them.
You guys make science fun again... I've always loved the study of science, watched these guys on tv and loved them. If they taught science like these guys do there'd be more American scientists.
formidable combination
Destiny.
We have one, and Mars just happens to be a part of it.
RIP Opportunity
Why?
Fantástico, gracias..
Loved it :) you sir, are a very talented music maker, no doubt.
COME ON, NASA! ASPARAGUS STAGING!
Come on KASASpace, money!
Jakezin Kanava
I have plenty.
Even with the new 3.75 meter stages.
Jake Zi The government has plenty of money to fund a trip to mars. In fact, we could probably fund hundreds without charging the tax payers a penny more. All we have to do is stop wasting the budget on developing new technology to kill people.
correct nasa is full of shit they used cgi and special software microsoft hollow sense also green screen ans blue screen
My Steps For Manned Mars Missions (MMM).
1-return man to the Moon and establish a lunar base to perfect technology for MMM.
2-Manned flyby or orbit of Venus to test equipment and observe health of astronauts in deep space.
3-Begin sending equipment and construction rovers to the chosen LZ on Mars's surface.
4-First Manned orbit of Mars. While in orbit establish contact with surface construction rovers to begin operations(building habitat). NASA prepares for Manned landing at home. NASA starts to more send food/water/equipment for first Manned landing. More test on astronauts health while in orbit.
5-Begin Mission to land the first people in Mars.
Pretty damn good
All of melodysheep's songs make me more emotional than any other music. I feel connected to all of you :)
Love that beat!
Please take me to mars NASA, I will gladly be your lab mouse. I've had enough of this world.
Yes you can (
I love astronomy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how could people dislike this
Greta Gill 'People are born to hate, only love and compassion can show the way. To our SALVATION!'
All of this because of religion.
"Mars is a world of wonders" tell that to Mark Whattney
Brian!!! Nice song. 😊😊
Very inspiring!
Who is after perseverance rover's landing on the Mars's surface
When I'm gonna land on Mars I wanna play this song.
That was strangely beautiful, as are all of your videos. Strong words from wise men.
look into the eyes of all these scientists, all i can see is passion
We need to find a practical way to magnify mars magnetic field. Then we can cook up a series of microbes to alter the atmosphere, so we can start terra-forming the planet.
No need to tackle the magnetic field issue until its been terraformed, rate of atmospheric striping is very slow.
The fastest way to terraform would be industrial CFC production, ammonia/ice meteor bombardment, nuking the south pole or solar mirrors.
Microbes need to wait until we have at least outgassed some captured CO2.
it's actually easier than you think, a web of geostationary satellites with enough energy could create an artificial magnetic bubble around the planet to protect it, we have the tech for this, but the satellites would have to be replaced after a geomagnetic storm.
Im actually proud we could.. be I would better be if we re-terraformate our own planet
SpookyZalost You don't have to though. The rate of atmospheric loss is so small...
Seriously.
well yes, but you would need a thicker atmosphere to compensate for the radiation bursts from the sun, so it would probably be a good idea to put one up anyway.
We need another JFK.
"However, I think we're going to do it, and I think that we must pay what needs to be paid. I don't think we ought to waste any money, but I think we ought to do the job. And this will be done in the decade of the sixties. It may be done while some of you are still here at school at this college and university. It will be done during the term of office of some of the people who sit here on this platform. But it will be done. And it will be done before the end of this decade."
Well it's not Trump. He wants to reorganize NASA, to make sure what they are doing. If he isn't reelected NASA could be stuck between investigations. So.. Vote Clinton, she even wanted to be an asteronaut once.
H5 lol you think Clinton wanting to be an astronaut when she was a kid would make her good for NASA? Are you joking?
Amelia Hartman Better than Trump.
H5 Okay? I vote for people I want to be president, not for people who are less shit than some other person. Specifically with NASA, Democrats are historically the worst in funding NASA and the sciences in general.
Amelia Hartman We need Another JFK, we won't get one if people vote on who they want. Trump will not be anything like JFK, Clinton probably not either but at least we can try with her. And the fact is that if Trump shuts down NASA ops' to reorganise them then he will delay them, they don't need that.
When I see 7,764 likes and 80 dislikes on a video like this it reminds me that about 1% of the time, people misclick.
Your work is exceptional. Thank you!
Thanks!
Who's here on 18 February?
1:47, "If you put a call for volunteers they will be lined up coast to coast"
That turned out to be an understatement. A company that is planning a one way trip to mars to try and colonize it put out a call for normal everyday people to volunteer and they got volunteers from all over the globe, even though they were told they had a highly improbable chance of coming back. We as a species are explorers and we as a species want to go and explore space, and yet one of the greatest obstacles is ourselves as a species.
Honestly, I'm amazed how many intelligent comments there are for this video, as compared to the majority of what seems to be out there on youtube. Glad to see this. :)
So good
I just ate a mars
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You ruined everything. There will be no man on a mars :(
The mars bars,hand it over!!
Nice!!!
Always thought so.
No, I watch watching this all year long
thank you! =D

I really admire your restraint in not using any clips from "Total Recall" in this video.
"If you put out a call..." I know I would sign up in a heartbeat.
I almost cry.
What a historic evening this has been! on the shoulders of giants
Very Nice song in Mars.
Me too! So so much!
This is getting me so excited for Curiosity
yes thank you, he is very smart and very young to have all the education he has.
I wonder if watching documentaries become like this after some shrooms or lsd lol great video as well with everything you produce. Good work
I have a feeling I had been on many other places and planets in my past. With love, your Jacob Cameron Sevall. From Wirtheim, Germany, Hessen.
Can't wait to hear what this new Curiosity discovery is :D
i think subscribing you is wise, to learn many things i a new and fun way! thank you so much for sharing!!
I read an article in a science magazine some time ago where they explained that cancer was only one of many concerns regarding space radiation. It also includes damage to the nervous system, and travelling to Mars will most likely kill 5% of the cells in your body without more protection than we currently have. Launch costs are a serious issue, because larger crafts are required to make a city. Unless you mine it all, which takes a lot more time than you'd expect.
My fave Symphony of Science song
“What’s left after you go is the good you left behind.” I think that line explains part of why we haven’t left for Mars yet. For all the bad things Earth has, there’s still a lot of good things worth remembering and holding on to, and we would be leaving the world that, for millions of years, we’ve called home.
This is epic, but the actual music in this is even more epic. I need an instrumental!
Of course! I got the family to watch its live. We all cheered when we got the signal that it landed successfully.
Well put! xox
i'm 29 years old, and i can honestly say, i don't think there will be a manned mission to mars within my lifetime. it's kind of sad when you think about it. do i support a manned mission to mars? absolutely. i firmly believe that for humanity to survive as a species, we must leave earth and venture forth out into the stars.
to show my support for this cause, i am starting college in the spring to study in the areas of astronomy, physics, and engineering. i will do my part in this endeavor.
Actually, I've started to understand where you're coming from. It could certainly spark all sorts of innovations.
Carl Sagan was the greatest! And still the greatest!
Very true! Hope the technology we develop will finally put us into the future age of interstellar travel.
