In the Robotyne area, Russian troops were able to break through the enemy’s defenses. Stormtroopers from the 2nd battalion of the 71st regiment, under heavy cover of aviation, artillery and drones, forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to leave the village. The advance of Russian troops was influenced, among other things, by the transfer of enemy forces to the Avdiivka direction, where Ukrainian formations have been unable to stabilize the front and are constantly retreating. In recent days, Ukrainian soldiers have been hiding in dilapidated basements and houses, but due to the lack of reinforcements, they fled from positions near the cemetery in the direction of Kopanei. At the moment, the village is under full control of the Russian Armed Forces.

It was the March 1918 Offensive 'Operation Michael' that tried to break the Western allies on the Western Front. Targeted at the area where the British and French lines met, the idea was to split the two allied forces and 'roll up' the British pushing them to the sea - a bit like what they DID achieve in 1940 at Dunkirk. German had got a momentary advantage in manpower as the Russians had just wimped out of WWI and saw this as the last opportunity to beat the allies, before overwhelming forces arrived from the USA. In that sense, there are some similarities but weapons arriving for Ukraine, rather than manpower..I know there is a new mobilisation coming but still Ukraine will be a lot smaller than Russia, manpowerwise. If Ukraine can hold on these next few weeks they may be able to stabilise the front with, hopefully, good quantities of shells arriving to blunt Russia's attacks.

Hey Paul, did I already tell you that Robotyne has been liberated?

  • @bdcochran01
    @bdcochran01 Před měsícem +36

    For Paul:
    1. the battle strategy was developed by Marshal Alex Suvorov.
It is still taught in Russian military academies.
    2. Years I checked, his book has not been translated from the Russian. I wrote people in the army about how to accomplish a translation at nearly minimal cost and was ignored. It is not studied at West Point. So when the Russians are criticized as stupid, the same applies to the US.
    3. Suvorov and Alexander the Great had two things in common:
    a. they slightly modified existing military strategy to win victory after victory;
    b. they fought untrained opponents who would never put up a rear guard, discipline retreat. when the opponent broke, the slaughter began. The UA is trained in phased and disciplined retreats.
The next point is very important to digest.
    1. Suvorov's strategy did not permit constructing a line of defensive retreat. this is a failing that a US general adopted during the Korean War and nearly cost 30,000 lives. the loss was prevented by the insubordination of a Marine Corp Col. who set out a line of retreat while advancing. I explain. General Almond ordered everyone to attack blindly and relentlessly. If you didn't, you were a coward. Col. Smith insisted that strong, minor fortifications be built as the Marines advanced. He insisted on a forward, dirt airfield. When the Chinese struck, the only thing that saved the Americans was Col Smith's insubordination.
    2. The Russians are not digging trenches, moving supplies with them to protected strong points, are not laying defensive minefields as they advance. If and when the UA judiciously and thoughtfully deploys the early supply of munitions, the Russians may be flanked and eliminated in all areas gained by the Russians in the area in the last several months and be back behind Russian defenses constructed between 2014 and 2022.

Nowadays countless bombs are often dropped on the front. Not like before - only to a few minor hangars, but to every single building that we hold” . According to him, the Ukrainian Armed Forces “cannot do anything” without ammunition and missiles for air defense systems. At the same time, the Ukrainian military is now erecting kilometers of anti-tank barriers - not only in the south of the country, but also along the borders with the Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions. At the same time Ukraine has repeatedly stated that they see no signs of the Russian Federation preparing for an attack on Kharkov...

From Eastern Europe / PL (my usual long message):
In the face of the ru invasion, Ukraine is a country which has been in need of constant replenishments. Money and weapons mainly. $60B here, $20B there. A Eff... drop in the bucket for the West all things considered.
But what Ukraine and its people have not lacked are Political and Cultural replenishment. From Eastern Europe, please hear me out!
Eastern Europe is complicated. With most countries with a recent Democratic Culture. Some countries stronger than other.
    From PL:
You see, back in 2013/'14, it was still not sure whether Ukraine would make it as a "Western Country style Democracy" the way WE all see it in the "Old West". At least viewed from here in PL.
    But in 2024?
It certainly looks like besides the frontlines, Ukraine has already won this war. The ru just refuse to get it. Fine! Let them "attrition" this one out...
You see, even if the ru MoD has destroyed multiple religious buildings, libraries, art institutions, and other expressions of Ukrainian life. The fact remains that the arts and culture scene in many parts of Ukraine is flourishing more than ever. Come and visit only the Ukrainian here! And if you are game enough, go to Lyiv and enjoy the culture directly!
All and all, Ukraine is culturally stronger today partly out of defiance, as well as to affirm their national identity.
The ru invasion has accelerated “the crystallization of a modern democratic European-oriented political nation".
And there is nothing an old autocrat in da kremlin can do about it.
A war is won with Logistics and weapons, yes.
We KNOW that were in PL!
But a COUNTRY and PEOPLE is taken over only if and only if its cultural identity is removed.
That ain't happening in Ukraine! Believe that!
We also know that here in PL! And the ru hates us for that! -
In Ukraine? These guys and girls are dead-set on being part of the West.
Ukraine a new "Afganist"? Don't think so!
How instead about the Star-Spangled Banner being taught? How about Soldiers of the AFU with USA flags on their front vest?
    Again... From PL...
You will not find more pro-West people as in Ukraine.

I’m actually thinking that Russia’s efforts will leave them exhausted and overextended enough for Ukraine to put their new toys to devastating effect, especially once they start picking their logistics systems apart from afar.

There are three "wars" going on - physical, propaganda and economic.
The physical war - Ukraine is facing 4:1 / 5:1 numerical odds against in a small sector of front and lacks the artillery ammunition to stop the assault. Due to an f-up they will now have to withdraw to their next defensive positions a couple of miles from where they are now, retreating one hedge line per day.
The propaganda war - Russia has achieved total breakthrough in a blitzkreig attack which will throw Ukraine back to Kyiv and end the war. The Ukranian army is finished. An immediate ceasefire is desperately needed....
The Economic - Russia cannot sustain the war much into 2025 - it is only producing about 20% of what it needs yet it's war economy is flat out. The Soviet-era stockpiles are almost done. It has no oil/gas revenues, the war chest has run out and it is only a matter of time before its economy collapses.
Ukraine relies on Western help, the EU has been slow but has stepped up - and what it will deliver by this time next year will sustain Ukraine in the field indefinitely without further US help. The US has finally got past its blockage and the $61 billion aid before November will stabilise and sustain Ukraine into mid-2025.
So long as Ukraine can conserve its manpower, and Europe maintain its will, Russia has lost the window of opportunity to get a positive result in this war.
