Great memories. I remember going to Mallory Park, Cadwell, Oulton etc in the 1960's when I was a teenager. I got Bob McIntyre's autograph once before he was killed at Oulton. Besides these guys I remember Chris Vincent and Bill Bodice, wonder if any of them are still going. I saw Phil Read a few years ago at Brighton.

I went to Mallory Park several times during the 1970's. I can still remember those huge traffic jams up to the circuit for the Trans Atlantic meetings! Happy days!...

'Back in the day' techniques were different and relied a lot on the technology of the day....(No 'Slicks' for example!) Plus, many of the older outfits were 'Sitters' not 'Kneelers' :-)

By today's standards yes it would seem slow(er), although still plenty fast to cause serious injury or death in the event of a crash. Some things to take into account. Look at the track tons of exposed armaco barriers as well as trees right near the tracks edge. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to impact either of those stationary objects. Also look at the safety gear they are wearing an open face helmet that really offered minimal protection at best. The leathers they are wearing had no internal pads like today's leathers.
Even the leathers/gear I raced in the 90's with is sub par compared to what is available today(internal air bags).

@@velobob4299 I'm from the US. I raced in the 1990's Northeast region races sanctioned by AMA/CCS. I raced mainly in production(no real modifications) and supersport(minimal modifications) races. Occasionally I entered Superbike and GP races which pretty much allowed for unlimited modifications. Really great memories and such a great community of racers at the time. I crashed in practice once and guys I would be racing against and some I didn't even know well were loaning me parts and helping me to repair my bike so I could make the race start. As I said great times/memories. Cheers

I passengered there as late as mid 90's when it was still bare armcos and no run off at Devils Elbow. Mind you, that was more of a worry for the driver 😄.
