Always the best videos, my only comment would be we would love to hear your opinion.
As the compressor is a subtle effect, the most important thing is to try and check how it affects your playing. Also the interaction with dirty pedals is important if this is the purpose.
Awesome video.
Greetings from Brazil!
Agreed, you straight cannot demo a compression pedal, it's more of a 'feel' thing than about actual tone. The pedal that 'sounds' the best on a demo is probably going to be the one that colors the tone the most. Since the Strymon does that more, ofc it's going to be a winner in the comment section.
Love your comparison videos, Seth!
Excellent video! I have an mxr super comp which I am actually happy with, but It'd be really good to upgrade it with a strymon one! There really aren't so many demos of OB1 :/
Thanks Brother.
Nice Work Fellows!!!
Nice selection of great compressors to compare. TY.
I wish I had some strymon stuff, I’m always really impressed with demos of any of their pedals. This one is cool because it’s definitely compressed the volume but doesn’t have a pronounced squash effect on the sound.
But see, I’m after the squash. I’d like something close to my Black Finger.
I think Strymon built some incredible pedals, but the OB-1 is not one of them. It’s a boost pedal with compression knob like an afterthought.
Perhaps a comp for people that don’t like comps. I haven’t tried the Compadre. When I dig it out of storage, I need to decide whether or not to keep it.
I have the Keeley Compressor Plus on the way! One day I’d like to get the Pro as well.
Maybe should demo a tuner, then do the shootout. Otherwise, helpful vid
jerry solon smith lmao
How did the people producing this NOT notice that the guitar is out of tune. And it’s a music store, right? You’re trying to sell gear? Put your best foot forward. The content is useful, but the overall production is bad. Delete this video and make another one.
Steve Steve!? How many people did you “correct” on this 🤣 you a guitar tech or something?
Chris E. What’d ya say?
It's a Chapman, that's how they come as standard 🤣🤣🤣
Great video.
Just get on with it!
I like the pulp n peel, has the most flavor. Keeley in second (from my hometown of Edmond, Oklahoma).
Witch one would you recommend for playing only clean apregios and single note open strings
What would you say has the most “obvious” squish and with the least amount of noise?
For an ambient guitar pedalboard, which one would you recommend? I`m unsure between mini ego and deep six...
Tbh I have the keely and it sounds amazing with a couple ambient reverbs and overdrive
Could test a Lovepedal JTM? Is intriguingly simple and sound great, but I doubt if sounds so great in the real world. Thanks! AlvasMusic ROCKS!!
would love too but we don't carry that brand.
Pulp and Peel followed by the Strymon. To be honest the Pulp and Peel just had a vibe and tone that is perfect. Aside from a Cali 76 I cannot think of a better one out there
Which gives the most sustain?
Beautiful tone. honestly I was tuned out even before you hit a comp cus your straight tone is killer but the one I use is the Keeley. The Ego and SP are great too!
Wich is the best pedal?? Walrus deep 6 or boss cs3???
what you prefer for drum sound?
Much appreciated, thorough indeed, thanks
we don't care about the guitar .. we came to hear the pedals
I got rid of my SP because it was too noisy at higher settings ,
@Noah Lyons, So far the best and less noisy compressor I have had thus far is the origin Cali76 Compact Deluxe. Just tried a PettyJohn Crush but it is not compatible with various power supplies (Gigrig Doubler 18 Volt adaptor) It does it's thing at 12 to 18 volts , but I found it to be too noisy with mu Gigrig Power , Of all these on this video, I liked the JHS Pulp& Peel.
@Noah Lyons and... is it less noisy then the SP? I too consider a switch
I think the walrus sounds the best but the strymon has the best control layout. Decisions decisions.
The Cali 76 is probably my favorite, but it’s way overpriced. For the money, the Wampler Ego is the best I have found.
Strymon, the best - I have 3 compressors , 2 optic - still I want to buy the Strymon ! ...
JHS all the way
Most musical compressor of these
Hello, this might be a stupid question but how do you eliminate the guitar noise when you switch the audio from your room mic to amp mic
I mean, how to eliminate noise when recording guitar.
I think he's using an interface
Buy a noise gate and check that there is no inherent noise from your guitar or amp (sometimes caused by bad tubes, grounding issues, or some smaller uncommon issues). Boss Noise Gates are awesome and Apogee or Universal Audio interfaces have amazing sound
Usually when an amp is noisy, there’s something in the signal chain causing it. So it’s best to try to find and eliminate the root cause. Set all the volume gains correctly across the entire chain, otherwise you could be amplifying “air” in the signal. If the amp is noisy even with no input, it could be caused by dirty power. If it’s necessary to record it as is, correct mic placement and good room sound can still make it sound awesome. A noise gate is a last resort but cause more problems than it solves.
man im so confused now, i was going to get a pulp n peel and a katana but the OB1 feels like its doing both! what would you recommend??
i'm liking the strymon for all around.
AlvasMusic the pulp and peel and so much white noise doesn’t it
nothing that i can hear but our wall power isn't the best.
For my ears, the Wampler or Keely were definitely the winners.
Why in some pedals sounds a popping noise when you turn on or off?
that sometimes come with the true bypass circuit
How do you eliminate noise when you record guitar?
Wow good question. I'm not a recording guy so i dont know that one. I will try to find out though and get back to you.

I have a dyna comp but is it worth upgrading to a deep six or a diamond?
I have the Diamond and it's AMAZING
I’m in the “tune and try again” club. I couldn’t make it through what seems like would’ve been a helpful demo 😬
Steve Lol. Apologies for not being specific enough. Let me try agin. “Your intonation needs adjusted because bad intonation leads to inconsistent tuning up the neck, effectively rendering your playing out of tune”
Steve ok I’ll bite cause this is a fun, pointless argument 😂. To tune (physically move the tuning pegs) is different than to intonate (adjusting the string length) a guitar. You can tune (move the tuning pegs) a guitar that is not intonated properly. This will cause the open strings to be in tune (that is, be at standard concert pitch, typically A = 440 cycles per second). However, a guitar with bad intonation will not remain in tune across the neck (that is, the pitch will deviate from standard concert pitch). So, in conclusion, we’re both correct depending on whether you are using the word as a noun (the state of being in proper pitch) or a verb (to adjust to a correct or given standard of pitch). Good day to you.
Steve lol. Bro you are relentless 🤣 but okay 😈 I would hope a guitarist worth their salt would know. I played bass a few weeks back for the first time in a while and noticed immediately I was out of tune. Tuned up, played again, noticed the pitch was a little off at the octave, adjusted the saddle and voila, consistent pitch across the neck.
The compressor is probably the last pedal I would buy, when all the useful pedals have been bought. There’s just no real point the difference is sooo subtle. It’s so hard to hear.
i have the keeley compressor end i’m not happy it’s so noisy
I got the Keeley Compressor Plus for Christmas and sent it back with a faulty Sustain pot (scratchy and noisy). Got a refund as no replacement available. Bought second from different company that arrived today with noisy Sustain AND Blend control. It's going back for probably and Ego Mini which reportedly is very quiet.
Buy a JHS.
@@blade82188 Is the JHS Tighty Whitey less noisy? I had the Keely and now have the Xotic SP. The keely just sounded down right sterile and also kind of noisy. I like the sound of the Xotic SP but it seems overly VERY noisy. I need something that doesn't hum/buzz so much.
So is the sp
@@ficknoti Ended up going with the Orange Kompressor, it isn't that quiet but I feel that the tonal quality is much livelier and organic when compared to the sp or Keely
in your opinion, which of these compressors was the quietest?
Also curious. Have a wampler ego and it definately generate hiss.
For me,
1. Pulp n Peel
2. OB-1
3. Keeley
But they’re all great!
How did you eliminate the noise when recording the amp? Or are you just playing that loud that the noise just doesn’t show up?

hes using noise gate

how's the noise floor on the strymon OB.1?
Your a god
Seth , do you make music?
yes i do at church and i have a band called Warehouse One.
Church music.🤦🏻♂
Am really confused between jhs and wampler :( I like buffer of jhs but I really like attack knob
Holy shit some of these comments are toxic.
Kelly looks znd sounds nice
Is this the guy that plays the national anthem at baseball games?
Anyone else hear Seth Rogen in his laugh?
Wheres the new thorpy fat general!?
not a thorpy dealer thanks though
Tune your guitar
Tuning bro
Too much talking and onion tune guitar between each comparison for this to be a really good comparison of compressors. Also descriptions are horrible.
A suggestion: No talking. Set the pedals as close to as equal as possible and go through them playing a similar riff or something - but no talking in between. It will make it easier to hear the sonic differences. Also, mic the guitar amp - don't just use the camera mic.
the cab is mic'd
@@chrismaneewan7651 Cool thanks.
Wow , 3 chords to each pedal super information hope your more useful in this store the keeley is the most popular pedal sold by robert keeley but I love Jhs wish I could have heard maybe a little bit of music through them. Uggh
Great video, but the out of tune guitar kept distracting me……
Wich is the best pedal? Comp strymon or comp jhs????
i like strymon
@@alvasllc1313 which produces less noise and which has better compression better sound the jhs or the strymon?? Thanks
@@alvasllc1313 ???????????
I would say the strymon had the lowest noise floor. Sorry i would have answered Saturday but i had the day off till today.
i also think the strymon sounds better.
beware with xotic I had one for 2 weeks. sooo noizy!!!...sorry , but crap!
Thanks for the helpful video. Tune the guitar though dude 🤢
