POOLS - Trapped In An Endless Watery Liminal Space Inspired By Backrooms, Full Game Playthrough

- POOLS is a beautiful, immersive, and creepy liminal space "horror" game. There are no monsters chasing you, but the game can feel oppressive at times by invoking fears of getting lost, the dark, tight spaces and otherworldly architecture.

Props to the dev for making a rubber duck into such an effective scare.
I think Control was the last scary rubber duck I had.
literally i though i was the only one who found it creepy
I'm always impressed when someone is playing a game like this and they remember something like "the sauna rooms I came from are on the other side of that wall." I lose all sense of direction very quickly, and then just kind of give in to wandering aimlessly.
Imagine the chlorine smell. I love the shimmering on the walls from the water when your in the darker rooms. It’s very surreal.
That nasty smell is usually not from the chlorine but the reaction to urine. So unless there's a bunch of cryptids taking a piss it might be fine.
Yeah, that was beautiful!
I'm so glad the dev added the extra effect of your shoes being wet when exiting water and then drying and that you picked up on that. Such a small extra detail that makes it feel more complete that was lacking in the demo.
Ironic how it’s extremely immersion breaking for me,
Barefoot sounds would be far more appropriate,
"POOLS" or "Have I Been Walking In Toilet Water This Entire Time?"
Not sarcastically, I love how you ask "would you ever go scuba diving?" as if we could answer, pause, and then continue with your thoughts. I often put these videos on while working on my website and it feels like a chill hangout with a friend.
Being here for a few days would fix me I think.
This comment made me snort laugh in a grocery store

It’s so funny you mention this so here’s a background story to that.
The video you’re talking about takes place in the Valley View Mall in Dallas. But Kane’s video is actually based on my best friend’s video where he explored the mall while it was abandoned. My friend’s channel is “Abandoned Dallas” and the video name is “Exploring the ABANDONED Valley View Mall!”
Kane Pixels and my friend exchanged a few messages about it.
The mall is now demolished so it’s awesome that they both created a cool unique way for us Dallas residents to remember it.
That's really awesome! The Kane Pixels video is so scary, I gotta check out your friends video now!
it gives the same vibes as playing in an empty Gmod map on single player, it's creepy when its so dead silent.
Especially gm_construct
The fear on his face when he saw the duck lmao😂
What’s the timestamp for the duck?
@@CountChrisdo 15:00 I think, though I recall there being more ducks across the game.
Another creepy detail with the floating duck in episode 1, when you move around the barriers it slowly turns to face your direction.
I normally dont watch these walking simulators multiple times. However, me be cravin' some MrKravin. All the time.
Lets rack them up. He deserves it. A common reply. A like. A subscriber. That is where I lie.
I'm sorry. Where's the reply? Other than mine?
I find them relaxing lol
Hangin' with Kravin is relaxing. I do like walking simulators as well. When you would rather stay out of the sun. Or, at night.
This is the most anxiety-inducing game I've ever played. I can't wait to play more.
Dreamt I was a detective tracking down a humanoid monster. Ended up in an abandoned mall liminal space. It was pretty creepy but in a good way
Reeeeally need a vr mod for this
ye, sadly its on unity, if it were unreal, we would have that problem
Oooo i loved this! The game looks beautiful and i was so on edge the entire time. Also where the toilets were out without doors on the stalls makes me think of dreams i have where i need to pee but all the toilets are out in the open or super gross lmao
Hey, thank you for this. I thought I was missing some way to get into that first red slide in level 2 and was kinda driving myself crazy until I noticed on your video that there's no way out of that pool. Great playthrough!
This game is like a fever dream
It says on the Dev's website that they were inspired by Kane Pixels. Kane Pixels story behind the back rooms is that it's an alternative dimension that was discovered and within this dimension matter is rearranged and physics often doesn't behave like it does in our dimension.
Imagine the horror of being stuck in an infinite amount of sauna rooms.
This game is so incredible! Love the design of it and it was so fun to watch you play!
i started watching to see if I would buy it, but I'm into it so deeply, I'm watching it to the end. And I will likely buy it anyway. It is an amazing looking game. The developers are brilliant.
The end to the first chapter was definitely death. Hitting the water at that height and speed would be like hitting cement.
Yeah agreed
Thank you for playing again!
I find this kind of setting really relaxing, seemingly endless pools, even though it is unsettling.
you need to show more of these that was amazing!!!!!!! and Kravin the door scare hahaha
1:00:42 the tile master bankrupted the Poolrooms and now it's all brick.
It’s giving Silent Hill 2 labyrinth but much much cleaner
Imagining James sliding down big red water slides to get deeper into the earth. Better than jumping down holes
honestly i feel bad only 820 likes on this and so much effort put in. I just wanna say good job on this !
that game made me feel so uneasy and excited and just totally immersed. which would not have been possible if u hadnt been so "in there" as well. Such a great example of why u are my fav utube letsplayer :D i caught myself a few times actually responding to u out loud and almost waiting that ull hear me xD i wonder if there is much that one can "miss" or "discover" that u didnt, but even so i think u hae been so attentive that we saw like 80+% id say?! regarding the storyline... i was with u on the looping theory. if there is more meaning... i hope its intentional and thought out even if far fetched or weird... cuz random usually leaves me a bit disatisfied... open interpretations are fine if done right and if a game is having me glued to the screen without expectping any story or active scares, dang thats a miracle. every positive word u mentioned i can agree with. impressive and kanes own creation aside the most creative and entrancing liminal "game" i have seen. by far! and i have seen way too many... THIS is its own world finally. a bit like silent hill 1 and 2. clearly SH, but so different nonetheless.ok, circling back: i juuuust pray that the elements that got more story-hinting along the way, were put in with some intention... how ever vague the person thinking of an element (like the different piping, the street, the voices, the arrangement of statues... I kinda dont wanna think about any meaning or puzzle together the inner workings of the "space" etc... cuz its only worth it to me to share if i find out that it wasnt just to make it weird and nightmarish. ^^ no matter what though: one of the most imporessive things i have seen in the last years. thaaaaaaaaaaaanks kraaaaavin
The adorable sheep 🐑 is a welcome yet unsettling surprise. I have many questions but I'm sure the answer to all of them will be: baaaahhh! and a staring contest.
1:07:30 This part of the M. C. Escher stairs reminds me a lot of Portal
Parts of this game give me vaporwave vibes 😊
Just for your attention, the checkboxes in the settings are actually swapped because blank is when they are in the on position and filled is off.
Mr Kravin = Best Let's Player on youtube!!! Content > ads!
I just got this game when this video came out I was looking up videos on how to beat it and saw your video and watched the first chapter and decided to watch you play instead of playing the game it's actually nice to see your gameplay is so calm and not out there with everything did help me because I thought the game was a scary game I am gonna watch your videos more it definitely is something I want to watch when I'm just laying in bed trying to relax or sleep
Game needs vr support
The ultimate sandbox loneliness game. If I were to make a game like this, I would use the theme of “playground” allowing players to play as a child in order for them to move through the playground areas.
Chapter one. Somehow you managed to get to the creepy ladder but it broke, hmm. No one has gotten to either the blue or yellow slides.
Omfg not the stinker 😂 that was hilarious!!! What a creep haha just posted watching hungrily 😅 love games like these. Thank you for the after work wind down Mr.Kravin 🙌 much appreciated.
Ngl. I love that you're channel isn't too big. cuz it means you actually care about your members... usually...but I hope you grow and flourish beyond belief cuz my guy I came to your channel from a streamer who I love and let me say. You're content is amazing so far. He played the demo today and is getting the full version soon. So I'm watching the full version on your channel for now. Hopefully I can catch a stream and watch you play a horror game live at some point. Much love. Take my sub and like and keep doing great content
"Yall heard of the thinker... here's the stinker"
Bruh I paused the game I was playing because I was ROLLING lol
My clostraphobia is through the roof here.
Can't recommend scuba enough, me and my wife are both advanced divers and once in the Adriatic we swam through a sunken Austro-Hungarian frigate for our deep diving qualification, its a crazy fun hobby to have whenever you visit beachy places. We also ski/snowboard, which is fun in cold places, haha.
This was a great game and a great vid!
loving the thumbnail‼️ 😂 hope you’re doing well 💕
Ty!!
i just got done playing it and it was so fun.i almost cried but i was sleep deprived.
can only recommend not to sprint in this game!! Makes it more immersive
800th like yeah ✨✨✨✨✨
Loved this! I had it bookmarked for a while now and it was just stellar! The 3rd and the 5th chapter, what a ride, truly insane!
52:27 yeah its called thalassophobia and its gnarly me no like to deep dark deep down
58:41 The House That Jack Built?
was thinkin the same thing lol
i hate feeling like i can't explore every inch of the maps 😭 i get lost every time
The hand part freaks me out in Demo
This is my ultimate dream game for VR .. I'd love to see endless exploration of liminal space or funhouse type environments. Please I beg you bring this game to the meta quest platform.
Theres a game called backrooms break where you can break walls and you can kill the monsters and there are different levels. Love your content as always 😚❤
Stunning claustrophobia inducing game, yayyy! 🦑❤
Nice game! Subscribed.
Just finished the game myself a few minutes ago. I don't get the ending. There's a book on human anatomy and a few sketches on the table in front of the television. The houses and the mannequin dolls earlier on are a simulation of human life. The maze nature of the game is clearly a trial of the mind and behavior of the person running the maze. My best guess is that someone is testing or studying humans. The guy ejecting the VHS tape could be a scientist evaluating the test subject. Idk. 🤯
I need this in VR
Have you ever seen the feature film The Swimmer (Perry, 1968)?
I think that in some way it is the precursor of this game and also perhaps of the theory of liminal spaces...
Get CPAP for your snoring!! My partner got it and it is the best thing in the universe. Cannot stress this enough
yessss, i hope he gets that too
Who will clean all this up? Poor guy
He's the janitor.
Imagine riding a slide right down into a gaping maw. 🐟
Also, I love how we were just chillin' in the Pools until we reached the Backrooms and me and Kravin both did not want to be there. So many backrooms. 🙄
Oh gosh, no I wouldn't want the pools or playplace. If I had to pick, I'd want to be in either a modern office space unlike the backrooms, or a mall.
They need to add down escalators and actual elevators in this game. And also moving walkways.
I think i have sleep apnea too bc I'm literally the exact same way ugh 😩
Imagine this in VR
Another *almost* 2 hour video *takes out popcorn bag* that are a lot of tiles
Hey MrKravin! I saw your pools video (awesome btw) and got excited because I wrote a book inspired by the poolrooms. I would love to send you a free copy if you have a PO box. Anyway, it's been well received locally, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you end up liking it, please feel free to mention it in one of your videos. It would really help me out as a fellow content creator. It's been a struggle to get my books out there and I'd so appreciate any help you can give. The book is self-published on amazon but as I said I'd be more than happy to send you one for free. Take care and keep the videos coming man! This one was great!
so disappointed this is only on windows right now!! 😫it looks amazing!!
This would have been better in VR
If you picked the pools then you'd always have somewhere to pee 😅
I bet peeing in the pools would unleash something horrible
i dont get the ending. the character isnt choosing the door but the only way back is blocked.. so wtf?
for a game like this I think it fits that the ending is really weird and inconclusive
Sorry mate what did you use to record this video? Pools doesn't go this smooth with any of the recording softwares I have damn it 😅
Just OBS
Imagine putting Cheat Engine Speed Hack set to 500 on this game...........
Im always down for
Liminal spaces... i like when there is creepy moments with no danger so we can still enjoy the atmosphere it would be cool if we could change the sounds of the foot steps to womans heels or bare feet or something the shoe stomps ruin the vibe a bit to loud cant really hear everything else.. id love to be anywhere liminal but pools then mall then playplace
Also fun fact.... chlorine doesn't burn your eyes, the Piss in it does.
Comment for creepy moist action in the backrooms. Engagement is getting all pruny in eldritch perpendicular realities.
Yay!
Does this work on Mac OS ?
Could whoever did the tiling contact me as soon as possible?.
Hope you play dreamcore demo, another great erie amospheric game, simular this one. ❤
Coming up!
Does anyone know whether MatPat is doing a theory?
why the sheep in my game was BLACK and yours white?? 1:40:18
That's awesome, I love hearing about the little changes between playthroughs
@@MrKravin me too, but I was worried that there was something wrong with my pc. And also in the end, the mannequins, mine are black, yours white.
I would do the pools
Where can I play this????
Really enjoyed this playthrough of Pools. I always love seeing your reaction to horror games, especially when you both critique the technical aspects of the game and its atmosphere.
One part of the Backrooms you didn't mention, which may be some people's favorite, is Infinite Suburbia...
czcams.com/video/3F4l-6GwkKM/video.htmlsi=mOWNrCgAoZpbY3xe
Looking forward to seeing other awesome videos from you.
I thought there were supposed to be monsters in this?
Anyone know where the mannequin scene is
The backrooms lol.
Your camera clearly got waterlogged.
Lmaooo
It’s a shame that you played the game with an early access key. If you bought the version that was released today you could have seen my art too 😢
Oh no! What chapter, the art gallery one?
Yeah, the last painting
Symbolic is my guess
Yaaay
Throw in a pyramid head slowly stalking you and it would be absolutely beyond terrifying
