The Golden Canyon to Red Cathedral to Zabriskie Point to Gower Gulch loop hike is the 'best of' hike in Death Valley. It offers classic Death Valley geology, epic viewpoints, a dose of history, and enough mileage to make it a proper hike. If you are only doing one hike at Death Valley, this is the route to pick.

Coffee Stipend!
Whoa thank you!!!!
Death Valley is huge. If you drove around it in it it is 800 milles of driving.
Go to stovepipe wells. Walk up the canyon near it. Do the dunes behind gravel campground. Leave. Go to Owens lake drive into Lone Pine from backside (east).
Don't waste time here go to Sierra or Bristlecone if want desert. At least it is above 11000 feet.
I kinda like walking down into the crater and Titus canyon drive. But not as much as White Mountain and Bristlecone or Mammoth Lakes.
Driven everywhere in it. Trona. Olancha. NV. When you live there you go in November January February. March.
Cal Shty/Edwards AFB. 5 years. Every weekend. Up 395.
Then 2 years Bass Lake. 1 year Fresno. Wife 40 years SOCAL girl.
I don't go to Joshua Tree either. Hit them at Cima Road going to Vegas/Saint George UT. You can drive from California City to Moab in 9.5 hours. Did 10 times. Unless snow.
On Sunday traffic from Vegas we drove through Death Valley every time rather than sit in it.
Thank you for doing a straight forward video and informative review of everything. Very easy to watch and very helpful while I plan for my trip.
This is my favorite hike there also. Red Cathedral was the highlight.
You want to drive around the desert ho to Arizona Strip BLM.
Lime Kiln pass to Mount Trumbull to Toroweap. Bam. 4600 miles of roads. 80x200 miles. Plus Grand Canyon attached to it. Zion and Snow Canyon are there too.
Cottonwood Loop is a nice overnight hike in the winter.
👍👍👍very informative thanks.
Great video! Thanks so much for the inspiring work👏👏👏👏
Great film!!
Loved this hike! Definitely one of the best!
great info, very helpful to find hikes and plan for them! Thanks
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing, you’ve provided so much information. And nice shots too !

Great video again.

Thsi is epic bud! What a breathtaking scenery, landscapes are truly spectacular! Gorgeous presentation! 🥾🥾
a different feel to this video...nice.
Very nice video! I am going to do this hike next weekend....thank you
Great video, thanks! Been there a few times but won’t make it back there in the near future so that’s the next best thing ;-)
i like the hike up to red cathederal. thats a fun section
Death valley looks real nice in winter
Interesting views of Golden Canyon, thanks for reminding us not to underestimate the importance of water in Death Valley.
I sure hope I can get my health improved, so I can take advantage of all these great and challenging hikes and excursions you’ve taken Us on these many months.
I sooooo want to do this hike, but was always in the area during summer months. Thanks for the great video!
👍 yea def worth a visit in the winter - great hiking here once you get away from the roadside crowds
I think leading hikes where you do and in small groups is the best of both worlds in terms of what you get to see and safety. Thank you for another great video.
I used to do guided hikes but stopped because the insurance got too crazy as did the logistics of permits.
I'm tryinv to go December !😊
I don't think I can capture it in person as you have captured it on that great digital camera, Thanks for doing what you do !!
Ha well thank you - hopefully things looking okay - I've been spending a ton of time with new cameras and trying to get the best guide up for everyone 👍
i ran this one when it was about 100 degrees which is not hot for death valley , it wasn't that bad, very strange how the temperature dropped once you gained even 100ft of elevation
I was just in death valley today went to pharump
Love your content. All of it. Have you heard of the biblical giant petrified trees? Asking respectfully 😅
Thank you! And not sure about the trees - are they the ancient bristlecone pines?
Nope! I guess all I could do is recommend you to CZcams "biblical giant trees" because it would be absolutely futile for me to explain it to you in a comment. The reason I ask you is because you've seen all types of natural places around the country and are an avid nature lover and would I would love to hear you're perspective. I just came back from death valley by the way. Did golden canyon and they typical death valley stuff with the family because of your vids. Thank you so much
Just adding I'm not suggesting for any religious reasons to persuade you. It's just that I cant seem to unsee what I saw.
@@Bigtreesandthings Thank you 👍🏻 and will do some research and look through some old pics.
Great video. We want to do this hike Thanksgiving 2023, but will do it from Zabriskie to the Golden Canyon parking lot as a one-way shuttle. Two questions: 1) do you know if the trail is still hike-able after flooding? 2) Are the trail markers double sided? ( I know most people do it clockwise)
1 - it's starting to open but check the NPS website for the lates
2 - some are and some aren't...
Have you done the Dante’s Ridge hike to Mt. Perry? Also an incredible one!
ha yes, one of my faves and next on my list to document for the site!
In the video yo mention sunrise for best light but other than up at Zabriskie, wouldn't sunset light up Red Cathedral and Manley Beacon area better for photography? I'm heading there next month and trying to figure out best times for photos. Thanks. Great video BTW!
Love to know your thoughts on doing this counterclockwise as many seemed to recommend that direction on all trails?
I've done it both ways and I find this routing to be much nicer
Bravo Chris did you do this today??
no a few weeks ago - it usually takes me many hours to edit the video and put the guide together, so usually there's at least a week of lag between when you see a guide and when I actually shot it
Do you have any experience with hiking the actual ridge of Red Cathedral? Saw that there is a trail that runs along it and it looks pretty interesting. Thanks!
Any tips on SoCal hikes that have old industrial sites or large concrete structures?
check out Big Horn Mine - wait until the snow is gone but it's a good spot
Was this filmed after the massive 2022 flooding? Just wondering if it’s still intact
yes shot in the last couple of weeks
We just got back from Death Valley and hiked it
Man. I wish the Ultra had native mapping and nav. How are you enjoying it?
it's okay, not the best tool for the job but it works - putting a review together now
If I go hiking there in the morning, should I take the clockwise route or the opposite?
I recommend the route I show in this video
@@Hikingguy thanks 👍 Cris
Are you a hiking guy or hiking guide?
