  • In this video I take a look at the all new Unifi Cloud Gateway Ultra and the Unifi Switch Ultra. The cloud gateway Ultra features 4 x 1Gbps LAN ports and 1 x 2.5Gbps WAN port. One of the LAN ports can be remapped to be a secondary WAN.
    The Unifi Switch Ultra has 7 x 1Gbps ports on the front and a 1 x 1Gbps port on the back that can be powered up with PoE++

    This is what the UXG lite should have been. They need to streamline their product line and just give the option of using the builtin controller or change the setting to direct the network to use the controller of your choice (eg. ck2, hosted, etc.)

    • @SmokingCrop
      @SmokingCrop Před 5 měsíci +1

      The UXG Lite and Pro are for service providers and companies with lots of locations that want to use a single controller for several scaling benefits. Hence the higher price / price-elasticity.
      They don't want consumers to run their own separate controller. They want the chance to upsell every consumer the extra apps/products that go along with it. Get them into the full consumer unifi ecosystem.

    • @niikon
      @niikon Před 5 měsíci +10

      @@SmokingCrop I don't get why the UXG-Lite is more expensive than the more powerful Cloud Gateway Ultra (dual core vs quad core) - see IDS/IPS categories and higher VPN throughput.
      Seriously, Ubiquiti's product lines are just a mess right now...

    I feel like these are the missing piece in the Site Magic SDN solution. As you said these would be great for remote branch offices where you only have a handful of staff. In that situation a UDM-Pro could be overkill so to have the ability to have one of these is excellent. HA would make it even better but that is probable asking too much at this price.

    Would love to hear a comparison review of a USG vs the UCGU and UX... specifically in regards to a pro vs con between the new models as a replacement to the USG.
    One such scenario for the comparison would be as an emergency kit-bag replacement to get a Unifi network back up and running where someone's UDM/UDR/UDMP/UDMP-SE/UDW has died and it would need to be setup short-term whilst waiting on a replacement of the user's original equipment (I'm personally in this exact scenario right now as my UDMP was fried during a storm, so I'm currently running my old USG whilst I wait on a new UDMP-SE to arrive, but the USG keeps freezing/hanging, dropping off the network etc.. Admittedly I have 7 Network devices (not including the USG or the UDMP plus 3 Protect cameras) so I would need to go for the UCGU over the UX (due to the support limits of the UX), but others may be interested in such a recommendation.

    • @williamp6800
      @williamp6800 Před 5 měsíci +1

      The Dream Wall is fine for something like a doctor’s office where you know ahead of time that you’ll have very specific and limited needs and NEVER be expanding, and you’re space constrained so you don’t have room in a closet for a small wall mounted rack.
      For any other kind of installation, you keep it all in one place by using a Network rack. Mount it on a wall somewhere out of sight. A closet or the basement. Any rack mount equipment mounts to the rack with four bolts. Need more switch ports? Bolt in another switch. Need faster switching? Bolt in a faster switch. Have one part of your networking stop working? Replace just that part. Faster Wifi standard comes along? Remove an existing access point and mount the new one.

    • @iitds1198
      @iitds1198 Před 5 měsíci

      I see the ultra as more of small office and Lite as more of home or extra small startup operation where you only want one device for everything and aren't ready for protect etc... Because remember the lite has wifi built in and one extra port for enough expandability for say a lite switch and once you are ready for direct connections and if you want to add a security camera or two later.

    Hi, if I have a Asus router available already and want to add a firewall IDS/IPS in front of it from Unifi, would this be a valid add-on and will I see or detect devices that connect to my Asus router from Unifi Network? Thank you.

    I just received a Ultra to replace a USG3. Existing network is running a Linux controller with 2 sites (default which is empty) and a site2 instance which was created a few years ago using the export/import method into the Linux controller. I see no way to import or restore a site from a multi-controller (my linux controller) to the Ultra.

    • @Mark-ji5ve
      @Mark-ji5ve Před 4 měsíci

      Resolved my problem. Change the UI to legacy and perform import of previous site (the backup file). I then get asked to pick the controller site in the backup I want to import. This option is not displayed using the new web UI (User Interface). Hope this helps someone -- or better, Unifi folks fixes this.

    Hello Cody,
    Do you know:
    I just purchased a Cloud Gateway Ultra and I have a Cloud Key. I want to use the new Cloud Gateway Ultra as just the router is this possible? That would be adopted under the Cloud Key that I have locally for all my other devices. So basically, can I use this a gateway only?

    Now I can't adopt it to my controller because it's not possible. I think I'll sent it back or so.
    Man that's so sad, I hope they bring an "Gateway Ultra" without "Cloud" like it is with the lite.
    And another absolute design fail in my eyes is that you can have an 2,5gig internet uplink but no link agregation.
    So in the end you have the bottleneck with the 1 gig port which is the downlink to the rest of your network.

    what's the difference from the UXG-Lite?

    • @fosterslover
      @fosterslover Před 5 měsíci

      Better CPU, dual-WAN, doesn't require a cloudkey. It's strictly better than the UXG-Lite for the same price. For some reason Ubiquiti charges a premium for it's standalone gateways. It's the same weird price discrepancy between the $379 UDM-Pro and $499 UXG-Pro which does less for more.
