An interesting thing about this movie is when the town heard that a movie was gonna use their mine to shoot this in, they spent $50,000 to clean it up. Apparently the producers were pissed that they made it clean because of COURSE THIS MINE IS SUPPOSE TO LOOK DIRTY AND USED. The film's production spent like $75,000 of their own budget just to make it look dirty, gross and active again. This movie was shot in Nova Scotia btw and as a Canadian, I gotta support Canadian horror ALWAYS! Loved this reaction as usual!

@rudy2fat I REALLY WANTED to love ‘Happy Birthday to Me’ but it kind of drags on. The main character’s backstory with her brain surgery after the accident felt forced in at moments and led to some weird unexplainable moments. We get that weird killer fake out like 20/30 minutes in with the one character who made a he’d sculpture of a prior character who’s been killed, then we get that other moment in the bell tower with that one guy who has a knife.
Our lead’s backstory wasn’t too clearly explained and just bogged down the pacing and provided some pointless/weird scenes. This movie does have some creative deaths and I did like the ending however.

I do think this movie does a pretty decent job at making us feel sorry for those that are killed. Mabel and mustache guy were nice and really didn't deserve to die just for wanting a party. And while their party tricks are weird (drinking through the nose), it was the 80s, there wasn't much for young adults to do

One of the few slashers that focuses on a group of working adults being the victims, instead of teens or college kids. I feel so sorry for Mabel though, classic sweet Canadian grandma energy. It was filmed on location in the town of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia - coal mining has been present in the area since the 1700s, and there were even mines that extended 8km out under the sea, which is a bit of a terrifying thought...

I do _not_ understand why you don’t have at _least_ 100,000 subscribers at this point! Your movie reactions are absolutely top tier every single week! And you’re able to do what so many reactors fail to do, which is riding that delicate line between poking fun at the film but also taking it somewhat seriously/appreciating it for what it is. No matter the quality or tone of the film, you’re always fully on board for the movie to take you where it’s going and you never look back! Which is one of several reasons as to why you’re a cut above so many others!
(Other qualities include: your incredible & hilarious quick wit, your general movie & pulp culture knowledge, your ability to recognize all sorts of actors, your amazing/gorgeous hair & multiple, fabulous different hairstyles, and genuinely *so many* more!!)
I first found you via your _Scream_ reaction and I instantly had to stan. lol. Since then, all of your _Scream_ reactions, plus multiple others, have become comfort videos for me when I’m feeling down or feeling out of sorts at all. So, *thank you SO much* for that! And I am soooooo freaking pumped for your reaction to _Scream (2022)_ that I’m counting down the days until it comes to Paramount +! lol. (I know it won’t be your first time watching it, but it doesn’t matter to me in the least! I’m just excited to see everything you have to say and how you feel about it! Also, I’m fairly certain that, as of today, we’re 8 days away from it streaming on Paramount +, which makes us that much closer to getting your reaction. Yay! lol.)
I know I’ve already babbled on plenty (Sorry about that. I can be a real chatty Cathy at times. lol. And I have a _lot_ to say today for whatever reason.) but it’s been a _hot_ minute since I’ve thrown out any suggestions. (I feel like it’s pointless as I’m sure that you have a *HUGE* list of movies compiled which you’re already working your way through. However, based on your reactions to each and every movie you’ve posted for us thus far, I am absolutely *positive* that you will *LOVE* all three of these films!) So, they are _The Faculty_ (1998), _Urban Legend_ (1998), & _The Cabin In The Woods_ (2011). I am absolutely chomping at the bit to see you watch these films for the first time! (Provided you haven’t already seen any of them, of course! Cuz… duh. lol.) Again, I’m just *so sure* that you’re just gonna *LOVE* each one of them! They are right up your alley! I (an internet stranger) promise!! (So how could you possibly go wrong?! lol.)
Okay. This is now waaaay too long so it’s very doubtful you’ll even read it, which is a _major_ bummer (But _totally_ understandable!), but hopefully I’m wrong about that and you _do_ read it all. Hopefully we’ll get your _Scream (2022)_ video in the coming weeks. Hopefully you’ll watch the movies I suggested sometime in the near future. Hopefully you start getting the subscribers and view counts that you deserve. And, most importantly, hopefully you’re having a *phenomenal* day/week/month/2022!!!

The remake of this (technically the movie that Kirby mentions in Scream 4 cause she's listing remakes^.^), is completely worth a watch! Yeah, it makes some of the classic remake mistakes, but it does really expand on the relationships of the townspeople and the story~~~ It was a 3D movie, but I think some of its intentional 3D shots they really nailed, especially if you got to view it in a movie theater (which I thankfully did)!~ Seriously, there are some shots in the remake that they took from the first and elevated!~~~ I think, in a rare way, the original and the remake don't take away from each other, and I'm happy both exist^.^ (I'm also a fan of a lot of the cast in the remake^.^)

Yes, the remake of My Bloody Valentine is one of the best slasher remakes. Maybe that's because the original film wasn't some untouchable classic (e.g. Psycho or Halloween) but still had plenty of potential that had never been mined for a sequel (unlike, say, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, or even Prom Night, all of which had already seen franchise fatigue long before the remakes came along).

Btw, watch the 2009 Remake. It's the closest thing to a sequel. *Fun Facts* During the prime of Canuck-sploitation. George Mihalka created this movie that was conceived and produced entirely over the course of around a year, the film was shot on location in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, in the fall of 1980. It was theatrically released on February 11, 1981 by Paramount Pictures, coinciding with the Valentine's holiday. Unfortunately this movie was victm of butchering by MPAA.
The notable censorship, having a total of nine minutes cut by the Motion Picture Association of America due to the amount of violence and gore. Though co-producer John Dunning confirmed that the excised footage still existed, attempts to release it proved difficult as Paramount Pictures refused to offer an uncut version. In 2009, Lionsgate subsequently licensed the home media rights to the film and both Paramount released Blu-ray and DVD editions with three minutes of additional footage restored.
The Police Chief is voice actress Cree Summer Francks her Father.

Also when the harbinger of Doom goes out to the mines to set up his prank the scene where he gets pickaxe to the face is cut out, you actually see his face with a pickaxe through it. Also the ending watching him cut off his arm is so horrifying and bone-chilling. This version was the theatrical version that was released.

Definitely recommend original recipes Prom Night and The Fog, and throw in Terror Train. All three are from 1980 and led by Jamie Lee Curtis. The Fog is more John Carpenter magic, and the soundtrack is one of the best ever and haunting. Prom Night and Terror Train are also Canadian horror gems like My Bloody Valentine. All three are underrated classics IMO just like this one. Also, the music and dancing for Prom Night is cheesy perfection that helps lighten the terrifying mood.

I thought the film was decent enough the first time I saw it, but I've grown to enjoy it significantly more with subsequent viewings. It may be faint praise to say that this is one of the better slasher films of the 1980s, but the movie has several things going for it: adult victims rather than teenagers (with fairly good characterization for a Golden Age slasher), an effectively creepy costume for the serial killer, and a memorable setting. On paper, it's essentially just a variation on fellow Canadian slasher flick Prom Night from the previous year, but it's a superior version of Prom Night in just about every way.

He said he'd try to find your contact info because he already follows you, so I hope you say, yes, if he gets in touch! Keep being amazing!

There is a Canadian Slasher called Final Exam from church 1981, it’s generic but the really did a great job at making the characters 3 dimensional. You end up learning about their personal lives and aspirations before they’re killed

My Bloody Valentine was one of the Canadian slasher films of the early 1980s, along with Prom Night, Terror Train, and Happy Birthday To Me. You'll notice the Canadian accents and several scenes where Moosehead beer is prominently featured, and there's at least five scenes that take place in a bar or that show people drinking. 😆 🍺 🍻

    • @billywilton-jordan7981
      @billywilton-jordan7981 Před 2 lety

And both Prom Night and Terror Train star Jamie Lee. Terror Train is more of a New Years Eve set slasher, and of course Prom Night would make a good video in the Spring time.

You asked if this town had their own police department. A lot of really (really) small towns don't. They're either overseen by the county sheriffs, or a neighboring town's police department is large enough to take care of two or three very small towns at a time. This is quite common practice in New England states.

One that's been hard to see but is finally more readily available I think you would particularly dig is FADE TO BLACK from 1980, about a prototypical movie obsessive who winds up dispatching people in the manner of classic murder scenes.
