- This is not a super detailed step-by-step review, if you want the full details then please support the artist and buy the book for yourself. I apologize for shakiness, I was having to use a selfy stick I found at work as a stand.
This is the first book review from books in my own personal library and as mentioned in the video if you have a specific request for anything in particular then let me know, preferably link me if you can.
Any comment, questions, or concerns please let me know. I am a newbie at this so advice is welcome.

Donations are also welcome to help me with the purchase of new books to review.
I like this book a lot. I've been drawing on and off for a couple years, and always hated observational drawing, but this book has made me enjoy it. The student drawings and the fact that she clarifies that your drawings will be a bit wonky and out of proportional made me feel much better. I think part of why I hated observational drawing was that I knew that my drawing would look wonky, so I didn't want to do it, but she makes it seem like it's not such a bad thing, so it has given me more confidence to just draw stuff without worrying too much about perfect proportions and angles. I also like that it starts really gently. Drawing the wires, then the simple cartoon upside-down drawings is a much easier start than some other beginner books I've seen. I like that it doesn't overwhelm you with a ton of work, either. It says you can do as much or as little extra work as you want. Just feels like a nice casual start to get into drawing.
Interesting. Will need to check this book out.
Nice camera work, too. That selfy stick works well.
Many Thanks.
It's pretty decent and well put together I thought. Yeah now I need to find it again because it became lost in movement.
I got this book not to long ago and I started reading it cause I needed a guid on where to start drawing cause theirs sooo much to learn and I tend to want to learn everything all at once, and then stop, and I tend to put myself down cause I wanna get good but when I draw I tend to talk shit about how it came out and honestly going threw the first three chapters are kinda hard to get for me cause I don’t know how to practice, and I get mad cause I got this book to help me out to reach a goal that I wanna reach.
I understand completely. One thing I've learned if you are going to do anything do it even badly cause at least you are doing it. Even a little counts for something. Try looking at the style you enjoy the most and start with books in that genre so to speak. That may help you be more inclined to try itand be able to practice better.
Love your voice and the camera quality!
Mad Muffins thank you very much. I get told I'm soft spoken so I hoped people would be able to hear me clearly. The camera quality is pretty good for a phone camera, I was pretty impressed myself.
Beth Trahern even though its soft it's still clear and easy to understand, plus the softness is quiet calming.
Mad Muffins I'm glad to know that. I was afraid that my voice would sound to monotone and boring. I appreciate the feedback tremendously.
Beth Trahern I'm glad :)
Would you happen to have gone through Keys to Drawing by Bert Dodson? I am on chapter two and it seems alright.
Also, thank you for your review on Drawing For The Absolute And Utter Beginner
No I haven't. I have quite the library and I'm sad to say I dont think I have that one in it. No problem I hope you find it helpful.
@@hcartz8705 So far so good. Has self reviews at the end of each chapter. I like how each chapter puts me to work on something right away. Practical application.
Anyways. Thank you. I'll continue watching your series and hope to see more art book reviews. Any chance of a sketchbook tour?
@@rubyalfaro2576 I'm glad to hear that the Book is working for you. I hope you find the others helpful as well. I'm hoping to get back into them again soon but the camera on my phone busted and I havent been able to film lately so here's hoping for something soon. A sketchbook tour?
@@hcartz8705 Thank you. Yes, a little discussion of your art as you flip through the pages. Your thoughts, progress, what you had planned, how it turned out... basically a showcase of your art. It is up to you, of course. Some artists do sketchbook tours on the tubetube (CZcams) and it's so interesting to see how their art has matured.
Sorry to hear about your camera. I await a new one manifests in the near future for you.
@@rubyalfaro2576 that seems quite interesting actually. Although all my work is all scattered. I dont have a single sketchbook I use but I could do something else maybe. Thank you, I hope so too as well
I got this book for $4 at a used book store
