    Overview:
    The Roland VT-4 is an amazing tool to help turn your voice into an instrument. Messing around with the effects, pitch, and formant can truly "transform" your voice in many exciting ways.
    Pros: Portable, small footprint (about the size of two cell phones), hands on (no menus to scroll through), battery or usb powered, phantom power (for condenser mics), high quality audio interface (no need to have a separate interface or sound card), the effects are studio quality (love the reverb and harmony), multiple ways to route the signal for recording, controllable by midi (either through usb or external keyboard).
    Cons: Nothing as of yet

    I just got one last week. I love the effects it produces but every time I try to record a vocal track with it, it also picks up all my beat and drum patterns with my audio and I cant get a clean vocal take for the life of me. idk if I'm doing something wrong I've read the manual and got the driver installed right someone please help me! much appreciated. I'm just about to send it back if I cant get it fixed any advice will be very much appreciated!

    • @PhillyWatts
      @PhillyWatts  Před 3 lety +17

      In your DAW you should have 6 input options to record from. Mix (1-2) is the one you're most likely using. Change it to WET (3-4) for the effects to be recorded or DRY (5-6) for dry vocals only. Hope this helps!

    • @shadygrizzly
      @shadygrizzly Před 3 lety +1

      @@PhillyWatts yes I've switched thru all of them but then once I I record my vocals it has the effects. And sounds good. But if I mute all the other tracks and only play the audio I recorded it plays back all the drums and beat pattern with my vocals and I cant figure how to just get my vocals by them self on a recording without getting the extra audio in the recording too. If that makes sense.

      I actually use the VT-3 on PS4 for the purpose of vocal entertainment from time to time.. It looks as if the VT-4 is an upgraded version...
      And to the one asking about how to hook them up them up on console.. It would require a 5 channel mixer at least.. The mixer goes to the PS4, and the VT device goes to the mixer, your mic goes to the VT as well, so ensure you have a XLR mic, not a USB... Im not sure if the VT-4 is USB compatible.. Im not even sure if my settup method would work with the VT-4.. So far it looks like it should

      Yes, but you'll have to use it in a subtle way and you'll have to know the key of each song being sung.
      The key wheel on the VT4 shows all major keys. In order to achieve minor keys, just go to the same major key and turn it 3 clicks to the right for the minor key. For example, for C minor go to C and turn the wheel 3 clicks to the right. Good luck my friend!

      Hello! The VT-4 is also a mic preamp and recording interface on its own. No need to use a separate one.
      Basically inside your DAW, you'll set the VT-4 as your interface, then you'll choose input 3-4 for recording stereo with effects or just 3 for mono. Input 5-6 is the dry vocal, or just 5 for mono.

      Thanks! If your wireless microphone has a 1/4 inch receiver/antenna, it can plug right in. It won't work with usb microphones or wireless usb microphones. As far as connecting to an external audio system... there are stereo 1/4 inch outputs on the back of the VT-4. You can just run them right into speakers, as the VT-4 is its own audio interface. If you do choose to connect to a separate audio system and you run into noise issues, I would suggest running it through a DI box first and then into the audio system.

      Turn up the balance all the way. It's a balance between the amount of effects and the amount of the dry sound.

      Absolutely it can! It has stereo 1/4 inch outputs that can be sent to any channel of a mixer board. Using the pitch and formant, you can make yourself sound like a demon or a little baby girl lol It's my go to audio interface for recording vocals as well. Check out the playlist of some of my music and you can hear it in action. There's also a link in the description if you're looking to purchase one. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks man! Not familiar with FL, but in Ableton I have to set the input on my track to input 3 (or 3-4 for stereo). If it is set to 5 (or 5-6 for stereo) it will record the dry signal only. Also, make sure your balance fade is turned up so the effect is present in the mix. Let me know how it goes.

      @@marcolorenzo5951 before I changed to ableton I had the same issues with Fl studio I used different tracks for everytime I recorded a new Audio. And if that is not enough I Muted all the other already recorded Audio tracks above to make sure nothing gets řcorded Into it. Sometimes its also the thing that 2 tracks in the mixer are routed to the mic or guitar from the interface so that needs to be checked as well. But tbh I never found the ground issue. Never gonna use fl again..

      Philly Watts same way as say an focusrite scarlet 2i2. If you there connect an 1/4 jack it bypasses the mic preamp,

      Yes, simply by moving the key 3 semitones to the right! For example, C minor would be D# major (which is the relative major of C minor).

    How did you make the connection from the computer to send midi to the vt-4?

    • @PhillyWatts
      @PhillyWatts  Před 4 lety

      Simply load an external midi effect plugin on the track with your midi and choose to send the midi to the vt-4. This will automatically enable robot mode and tune your voice to the exact notes of the midi track. This may not be the only way to do it, but that's how I do it.

    I wanted to ask , I wanted to have really good performances with a good vocal execution going toward it with my music too, I was wondering if there is a way I can get have a wireless mic connected toward the interfaces? And I was also thinking of getting the BOSS RC- 505 also for looping and live performances too, I just want to give the audience the field of my music and make them feel like they’re in the setting you know? What do you suggest? Is there such mic I can use wirelessly that’s connect to those interfaces or would I have to use an extension for the mic?

    • @PhillyWatts
      @PhillyWatts  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, there are plenty of wireless microphones that connect via 1/4 inch or xlr (which the VT-4 has both in a combo jack). A very cheap, but good one that I tried once before was from Fifine.
