Frenching is known as cutting something into thin strips. This is referencing julienning, except not as fine. Freched, then fried = french fries.
All other fries are not french fries, they are just a variety of fry.
Cutting into small cubes is known as hashing. Tater tots are hashed and then browned = hash browns.

I’ve been working on them for a while now. Probably plenty of new RTAAs since the last time you watched!

I don’t think Chris is winning this debate

Chris doesn’t want tots and home fries to be considered French fries, yet he keeps arguing that they are!!
Why does Chris’s brain torture him like this?? 😂😂😂

He should move to the UK, french fries here are only the ones from McDonald's or similar, we would call some of the things they describe as chips, wedges and waffles. I don't know what Tator Tots are so not sure what our equivalent is

Tator tots, at least from what I've seen and had, are pretty much bite-sized fried hashbrown.

"I think the term fry is used too broadly to where it's lost all meaning"
Chris you are the only one confused here

All this crap (pineapple on pizza, hot dogs as sandwiches, and Chris's weird potato thing) all seem to stem from a long ago day where someone was disappointed by the food they ordered and secretly vowed to themselves to complain about this experience for the rest of their lives.

But its more than just preparation! You have to consider their use.
You could use tots in the place of fries as a side for a sando or burger but you couldnt substitute home fries or hashbrowns for tater tots with your breakfast.
So in that sense they very much fall into french fry territory

    "French fries are cut"
So does the grater just magically turn the potato in shreds.

This is why UK does it right with having the word "chip" as an umbrella term for any form of fried potato product. French Fries are specifically the long and thin ones, but they are still chips.

Taste-wise a tater tot is closer to fries than hash browns. Prep-wise tho, Chris is 100% wrong

Chris usually has a point that I can at least play devils advocate with. This time, I cant see it.
