As a proud Brummie I found this Video of my City and the UK's second largest City to be the best I have ever seen on You Tube, the information and knowledge of the producer was imence and showed how beautiful Birmingham is now well done. One thing you missed out is about the Ring Road's around Birmingham, as you mentioned they were built to take cars out of the City Center and around the edge so allowing the City Center to be pedestrianized, the Ring Roads were named Small Brook Ringway, St Chad's Ringway, Moor Street Ringway etc etc, in designing this Ringway Birmingham City Council decide to add one extra part on Great Charles St Ringway a Tunnel under Birmingham City Center that would take traffic off the Aston Expressway A38M under the City Center and rejoin the A38 on Bristol St the other side of the City so take even more cars off our City streets, to open the Tunnel our late Queen, Queen Elizabeth 2 was invited to open this tunnel and name it "Queensway", but when the Queen finished her speech and did the opening it is reputed that she is supposed to have said in her opening speech " I name this Tunnel and Ringway Queensway ", so to not offend the Queen Birmingham City Council had to rename all the Ringway as Queensway hence they are all called Moor Street Queensway, Small brook Queensway, Great Charles St Queensway etc and not " Ringway"and they were also tared in a Red asphalt and that is how they have stayed to this day, but of lately some of the Ring Roads have been changed again to stop cars coming through the City Center so trying to get rid of the tight grip of the ring road around Birmingham and getting rid of the reputation of Car City. Also it would of been nice to show Birmingham's other Cathedral the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St Chads in Snow Hill. A brilliant video all the same
I went Birmingham last week to show my children city unfortunately because of rainy days couldn't cover much areas and missed it ,but your video has shown more than we could😊
Nice how you make walking tours because they're annotated by you. Otherwise, would be boring like other channels because just showing generic streets, buildings which the viewer had not one iota what they're about. I just passed Birmingham station on the train way from Glasgow back to London. I'd want to put this in my places to visit when I return to UK. Thank you.
Gotta admit, Birmingham is slowly (very slowly) lifting itself out of the post war doldrums, as things stand now its not that bad, but there is still plenty more work to be done before anyone decides they're going to visit for a holiday.
I lived there. Like many cities people don't appreciate them enough. This includes Birmingham. Completely agree with what you've said. Most people blame the ugliness and loss of great pre-war architecture to bombing. Whilst much was lost, a great deal survived. Post war vandals pulled these down anyway, including the old Birmingham library, old stations, and other great victoriana in the centre. Then of course the concrete collar did the rest. The city centre is really too small for a city this size. I never liked Centenary square and I still don't. Thankfully Birmingham is building better post-war buildings. I really believe it needs some proper skcrapers/towers. I am gobsmacked Digbeth hasn't been utilised properly and brought into the centre/connected properly. I see they are working on doing this. Well done Birmingham for the changes they have made and the great tram system.
You have not seen the whole City, Birmingham is now totally rebuilt and was very quickly lifted out of the doldrums of the post war years during the late 60's. 70's 80's and 90's and no there is not plenty of work to be done on the City, when the Commonwealth Games were held in summer 2022 thousands of tourist's came to the games from all around the Commonwealth and were totally surprised how modern, cosmopolitan and friendly Birmingham is, so before running my City down try visiting it first. Try looking at my City it is totally rebuilt.

I didn't say it was bad, i just said that there is a lot of work still to do when it comes to urban regeneration, which is true for most cities in the UK. It is great that Birmingham has achieved a huge amount of modernisation in recent years, it has a good tram system, and many new modern developments that are revitalising the city centre, especially new street but also a number of towers and banks relocating there, and the future construction of HS2 and the implementation of the big city plan, Birmingham city centre has massively improved in the last few decades, and it will continue to improve into the future. However, lets face it, its not Munich, Vienna or Barcelona yet either, these are problems consistent across many English cities, however, much of the centre remains difficult for pedestrian access due to being broken up by the ring road, there are still many 'dead' facades on streets, there is a noticeable lack of independent retailers, the architecture lacks some level of consistent planning and a coherent architectural style, in addition, the city doesn't have a traditional metro which for its size it really ought to have been granted the funds to build by the government. So there is still plenty of work to be done.
@@hpsauce1078 Well I have lived in Birmingham for 66 years and have seen the regeneration of Birmingham from a bombed out dump full of slums in the 1960's to what it is now a thoroughly modern cosmopolitan multi cultural City with nore green spaces in Europe tan any other City, the City Center is now fully transformed and most of the outskirts a full of green spaces and over the last 10 years the Ring Road has been altered to be more pedestrian friendly now with Cars banned from the City Center and what Independent retailers do you want and yes we have a traditional Metro, the " Midland Metro" that at the moment runs for around 18 miles from Edgebaston Village through Birmingham City Center to the City of Wolverhampton with a spur being built to Dudley and being extended to Birmingham Curzon Street Station of HS2 of which the West Midlands Mayor Andy street is hoping to extend further, I think you need to visit Birmingham now to see what it looks like and No it isn't Munich, Vienna or Barcelona but neither are those Cities Birmingham, But I have visited Barcelona, Naples, Verona, Milan and Paris and all though the names sound great they are no better than Birmingham and in fact outside the City Centers they are quite rough.
Birmingham has come a long way, and has a long way to go. Centenary Square is awful, and New Street paving needs sorting. Oh and the school on New Street was totally uneccessarily demolished., like many buildings. The whole area around the Ringway Centre is a disgrace, as were /are the ring roads. Elegant sweep? Lol. It all needs to come down.
