Changing the shape of a therian mask with just glue and paper

- Someone just pointed out I used a piece of minky, so it's not really all papier 😅 I honestly forgot that I did it, it was a really spontaneous decision XD If you'd like to follow the video when making your mask, you can totally skip this step.
Finally started working on my personal binturong mask! It needed a bit of reshaping and I didn't like the look of my chin poking out of it, so I made some modifications. I figured that most people wouldn't have such fancy things like eva or foam, so I tried to do it using just a piece of stiffer paper, paper towels, couple types of glue and my sick paper mache skills. I'll finnish it on video. You'll get it in couple days to a week 💛

I wish more masks where like this tbh, the design is just more animal like and I’m so impressed it just took paper and glue.
Thats understandable- I just personally prefer the open mouth for ease of use and comfort. I dont have to take it off to drink water or anything, my voice isn’t muffled, and its just generally more comfortable to wear when just casually watching YT or something

I cover my hands in smoking glue, smile until it dries then I peel it off

With sculpting? Totally okay! The only thing that would bother me is others taking my designs, but this one is just a grey binturong, so I don't really have the right to be mad at that XD In general I'm happy to inspire and help people as long as my characters are safe

It's actually water with PVA glue and a paper towel dipped in it. It's something like paper mache

It's the cotton material used for embroidery pictures, dunno how it's called in english. I use the same material for fursuit eyes. It's a bit tuff to find a good one, so I recommend you to ask about it on some fursuit making group or to go to some fabric/sewing related stationary shop, and try it out for yourself. I'll drop you a link to the one I got, but I think they don't ship abroad from Poland

I reccomend using paper mechae instead of clay, because it doesnt fall off as easily as clay. Its stays on sturdy.

It's something like paper mache. I used PVA glue and it worked pretty well, but there are different types of glue you can also use. I recommend looking into paper mache in general, cuz it has a potential with the masks

The glue is diluted in water, so it holds everything together when it dries. I recommend looking for paper mache tutorials, it's really similar

Years of fursuit making taught me how not to get burned when intentionally touching it to smooth it out, I still get burned by mistake sometimes tho 😅

What is the name of the material you use for the eyes?
In Polish it's called kanwa, not sure about english. It's the cotton material used for those embroidery pictures. I recommend asking your local fursuit makers about it, they should know which particular one will work and is available in your area/country

Add some foam or cardboard to the top or bottom, make sure to measure to your face or you might have a problem seeing.

When making a base hot glue is usefull, but I'd say you can go around it. You still need a hot glue gun to put felt on the mask tho, so I'd recomend just getting one If you want to make a mask. You can get the small ones for super cheap in craft stores

You should get clay it’s much easier! Just gotta wait for it to dry.. that’s the worst part
I don't really trust clay tbh. It's crumbling, breaking, and the mask is already made of paper, so using paper mache just makes more sence for me. Also foam, like for fursuit heads might work good, but I used paper to show people that it's doable and they don't need fancy materials

Dunno how old you are, but when I didn't want to ask my parents to order me something, I asked my friend with a bank account 😅
The masks come in bundles, so maybe you can even talk with someone you know, get them interested, and customise them together.
