    If you are dealing with big toe arthritis also called hallux rigidus (rigid big toe) or hallux limitus (limited big toe)- this video is for you! Join a physical therapist Alyssa who specializes in osteoarthritis with Keep the Adventure Alive. In this video she will show you the top four movements to reduce pain and stiffness from big toe arthritis so you can enjoy walking and stairs again.
    Your big toe is incredibly important when moving around so if it becomes stiff, loses range of motion and becomes painful- walking can become difficult. Regaining both mobility and strength of the big toe are two of the main goals with these movements. The goal is for these movements to feel good, they shouldn't cause significant pain. If they do, your toe may not be ready for these movements yet and that's okay!

    I've been doing Alyssa's CZcams exercise videos for the hip, back and the toe for a month now. While the exercises provide relief to my hip osteoarthritis, it seems to be awakening other joints that need attention, and there is some discomfort experienced in them. I hope by building needed strength to these areas that this discomfort will dissipate. Hopefully, this is normal. For now, I'm working on being consistent. I find the exercises gentle for joint stiffness but so very effective.

    Wish I would have had this video 1 1/2 years ago before I had one of my toe joints replaced! The blueprint has really helped me with my new toe joint too!

    I just came across your videos on CZcams this morning and feel hope. I have OA in my right big toe and left hand. I went to physical therapy for my hand but didn’t know what to do about my toe. Excuse me while I get started. 😊

      You can increase mobility in your toe. It's a slow process but it works! My feet were worse at 40 than they are at 65 years old. Walking on the beach is good for the body and the soul.

    Glad to have found your channel. I recently had my X-rays read by my Dr. and was told I have severe arthritis in my big toe. My confunsion is all the pain is referred to the outside of my little toe??? No pain in my big toe at all. Walking only hurts my little toe from the side. Very sharp, stabbing type of pain. Any input on why the pain is referring this way?

    I had metatarsal surgery on rt foot, and cholectomy (sp) on big toe joint last OCTOBER. Trouble is, that big toe is disturbingly still numb. I put ice or heat nightly. I can still feel pin pricks, but constant feeling of numbness - grr!!😢😮 New sub, interested in back & hip exercises (also just had hip surgery - long story!!)

    I started balancing on a Bosu ball. It seems to help. What do you think??

    What if the other toes bend/ lift as you try to press your big toe down on the towel (causing your foot to feel off balance and shake)?

    I had intense, knife pain in both big toes. Had surgery on both years ago. There’ s no range of motion on either, so it makes it hard to do some yoga poses, pilates and other things. It’s not great but so much better than the pain I was in. I think there are many other options now for this problem.

      It actually exists now, even though most doctors still want to stiffen the joint. A specialist in Germany (Berlin) manages to operate even with advanced osteoarthritis so that the joint functions again without pain. I don't know exactly how this works. He somehow minimally increases the distance during surgery so that there is no more friction of the defective joint surfaces. But what I find particularly exciting is that he installs plates, which means that people can walk again almost immediately and without a cast. However, the titanium plates have to come out again after a year. But then it is only a minor operation without any loss of working hours.

    Thanks for these videos! Ive been having problems for 20+ years and actually gained some mobility. My favorite tihing is walking barefòt on the beach. I think that gives some of the same benefits of these exercises, especially when the wqter is cold.

    My big toe's almost covering the toe next to it, it's not going to cooperate with these movements. It's a real bunion! You need someone with a bunion to MODEL these exercises! You're too perfect!😅

    • @catbirdler
      @catbirdler Před 10 měsíci +2

      A bunion is a different condition than the one she's demonstrating exercises for here. This is more an arthritic problem of the joint.
