- Milwaukee is known for cheese and beer, but another staple of Milwaukee is their custard. In this video I travel to 4 different and historic custard places in Milwaukee. I will rate each place and tell you which one you need to go to and try. Did a whole tour of frozen custard in the midwest from california. My faves were 1.kopps,2. ted drewes, 3 Leon's and as far as gilles, i wont add them since i felt like it wasnt custard. Ted drewes could be 1 if they had more butterfat in their custard. But they were all sooo good. I tried to have scoop ice cream last week and i just cant eat normal ice cream anymore after frozen custard....the ice cream was a famous place too.

Your either a kopps fan or a Leon's fan in Milwaukee... I'm a kopps fan. Grew up going there. Here's some info, they both get their custard liquid from the same place in Wisconsin. It's just prepared differently. Gilles is more for the burgers than the custard.

Leon's is the best, followed by Oscar's in my opinion. Culver's and Kopp's for me are at the bottom.

Oscar's is good. I think Leon's does an amazing Butter Pecan, but their other flavors are just alright.
Kopp’s is my favorite, and absolutely love that location! So beautiful!
Fred's!!! Fred's is cool, never had their custard but their food has been great every time I've went. Oscars Custard is my new favorite, somehow it beats Kopps. Gillies is fine.

My favorite is Gilles, but only vanilla. I don't think their flavored ice cream is as good as Kopps. I usually have a jimmy sundae with vanilla ice cream. Yum!
