The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium. It peaked at #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #3 on the Cash Box Top 100 Singles chart. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1986. - Hudba

From the little I have read, there was a DX7 and a Jupiter 8 in the mix. Oddly enough I have a patch on a Korg MS 2000R (patch H1) that is very reminiscent of that iconic, moving bass motif.

@@harrisonmiller8092 it was nice, simpler, but smartphones are not the evil that some think. And we simply called selfies Poloroids. Friends were just as backstabbing and fake. They bullied others on papers folded into triangles to discreetly pass to each other. Or they did it on bathroom walls. "Real" people were too busy trying to emulate airbrushed models on magazine covers. I guess people forget that while blaming smartphones simply because other people don't like them.
It was so different back then. They last group to grow up before the ubiquitous rise of the the"online world"

Every time I listen to 'Take My Breath Away' by Berlin, it's like being transported to a timeless era of romance and emotion. The haunting melody and heartfelt lyrics never fail to give me chills. Who else feels that this song is an absolute masterpiece?😍❤
It's an iconic song of the '80s who takes you straight back then. A lot of '80s songs do that, but there is just something about this I can't quite explain.
It's its connection with one of the most iconic '80s movies, starring THE most iconic '80s movie star!
Also, it was composed by the great Giorgio Moroder. The '80s wouldn't be the same without him.
Also, our personal memories from it. I saw Top Gun in a movie theater back then when I was a kid, and I remember the song's video clip playing on TV.
It's all these and maybe more that make this song an epitome of the '80s.

Would you really, really want to live back when you were young, in the '80s (I suppose you grew up back then!), and be stuck there FOREVER? Living the whole decade from start to finish for all eternity? I guess not, it's a scary thought. Go back for A WEEK or so, yes, but...forever? Nope.
So, relax, open a bottle of wine, pour some in a glass (or two, or...a bit more!), open You Tube, and enjoy the memories. They will live forever in our minds and in our hearts. Because, if you want me to get more philosophical about it, time doesn't even exist. It's just ONE DAY, repeating itself endlessly, in all eternity.

N tbh my childhood wasn't like the greatest but idk any other way. I knew kids that were just straight up spoiled n I knew kids who had less than me n my siblings. From the time I could remember till around the time I was maybe 15 my dad was going out blowing his money n whatever money of my moms n getting shit faced drunk coming home n beating tf outta our mom. We'd try to help but there wasn't much me n my brother could do at a young age. N there's way more but even with that I don't look back n just hate my childhood or would never go back. It's more the fact we're all just getting older n having to face things that we've gone thru life thinking it could never happen ya know. But it's is what it is.
@@RatnoseMcWeinerson The personal childhood of everyone, and how great or bad it was, doesn't have to do with what that decade (or any decade) was and meant. Yes, of course, if someone had a really bad childhood in the '80s, his memories wouldn't be SO fond, you know? I mean, what if someone's father killed their mother the day they first listened to this song here? They WOULDN'T listen to it thinking "aaah, what a great song, it takes me back to my lovely childhood!". :p
I wish that no one had a bad childhood, but, unfortunately, some people had. And I wish they could separate them with the general feeling that these great songs bring to us, and just think how great that decade was, in general. If all these many, many songs could even make them forget those bad memories, even better.
Besides that, most people say that they would really want to go back and live there forever, if they could. I explained why this wouldn't work. I understand why they wish it, but, realistically, one day, they would wake up and feel the routine. I like to have nights listening to '80s songs (or '90s, or '60s and '70s, which I didn't live), but not EVERY night. I need some break every now and then, to miss them again.
The other thing is that, we like some '80s songs now that we WOULDN'T like back then. We like them mostly for the GENERAL feeling of the '80s. But if we were like 25 in 1985 or whatever, and a new silly song came out, we would say "what is this piece of crap?". :p Because there would be NO nostalgia factor. It would be just another typical new crappy song.
And one last thing. Like I said before, people say that life back then was better, and they would like to go back. But, they forget one little detail, one detail that has become a crucial part of our life today, which didn't exist back then: Internet. And EVERYTHING that comes with it. People were much, much more lonelier back then. A lonely person back then, with no friends, had LITERALLY no one to talk with. Now, a lonely person, can have like 50 friends from all over the world, and talk to them daily, and instantly. Every person can find someone to talk with on the Internet, whether they're from the same city (which could bring them together in real life) or the other side of the world (which could bring them together in real life too, it would just be more expensive than a bus fare :p). Just like we do now.
And just another example, this platform here. You Tube. We can find literally ANYTHING we want, anytime, and watch it as many times as we want. But back then, we only had MTV (and a few other music channels), and we couldn't watch what WE wanted. So, in my occasion, if I would go back to the '80s, not only I would be super lonely, just like I always was, but the absence of You Tube (and only You Tube, I don't care about Netflix and all that, there were countless of video stores everywhere) would make me depressed. Right now, I can watch like 50 '80s video clips just by clicking their title. But back in the '80s? Nope. Heck, because of You Tube, MOST of the '80s songs I have watched, I hadn't watched them back then, I didn't even know some of them!
So, live today, enjoy today's comforts, and let the '80s (and all those great decades) live in your heart. They're not completely gone, they're alive, here, on You Tube, all the time, and we keep them alive by watching them, giving them millions and billions of views. Yes, some '80s video clips have BILLIONS of views, so how can someone say that the '80s are gone?
So, open a bottle of wine, and have a party, even alone, or even better, with a good friend who likes the same music!

p.s.2: Top Gun 2 came out 2 years ago, and Beverly Hills Cop 4 comes out this year. With Tom Cruise and Eddie Murphy, respectively. And I'm gonna see Duran Duran live (for the first time!) this coming summer.

The 1900s were so unique. I was born in 1988 but my mom was born in 1958. My grandparents in the 1930s. Being around that older generation and their cultural influence was an amazing experience. I work in a nursing home with residents born in the 20s and 30s. Each decade back then was a decade of growth and historical. I miss it so much. The 2000s haven’t been decent.
I was born 2005 but i love this old music! I would love to go back to the 80's and just have fun with the life! Now im working with 17 and i hate this generation...

By the time this song reached #1 as a track on "Top Gun", Berlin had already broken up. They recorded this iconic love ballad in 1984, and two years later it became a smash hit when "Top Gun" included it on the soundtrack album. This song also appeared very briefly on "Despicable Me 3", when Balthazaar Bratt was looking for some 80's styled "heist music" (such as Michael Jackson's "Bad") on his cassette tape, and he accidentally played "Take My Breath Away" instead. Enraged, he shouted "Clive, what are you doing? How is this heist music ?!"

@@danielburns987 Didn't they reform briefly when "Take My Breath Away" was a huge hit, then broke up again? it's like what happened to The Zombies in late 1967 when they broke up, then suddenly they had a big hit with "Time Of The Season" in 1969, when they were defunct for a little over a year. Unlike Berlin, The Zombies didn't reform to cash in on their hit. Zonbies founder Rod Argent immediately formed another group, Argent in 1969.

Top gun had a great soundtrack, never knew at first this classic pop hit was from the movie! Always liked this Berlin hit and to know that it's from a popular movie like Top gun further solidifies even more so it's classical rock pop status!
