NICE! I like how you actually have a schedule and know what youre scheduling every week. I'm so random I have no idea. I need to be more like you , my man! Great photos, and your thoughts are welcome man.

Hey, Jerred! Thanks :) Man, if I DON'T schedule/plan to do these videos, the inertia of the couch is too strong to overcome. LOL. It's been really helpful for me to create a "groove" in my schedule for these videos, and it's something I look forward to each week. A great creative challenge and opportunity. Have fun with your photos and videos!

Just getting around to seeing this video. It's now the end of June but I have find that I leave the beloved 70-300mm at home most of the time these days and, like you now, go for the shorter focal lengths. I bought the 30mm when it first became available. Just got the 10-24mm (again). It's amazing that the 10-24 also does very well in close-up photography.
I agree with you 100% that this changes the way I 'see' things.

Hi! FWIW - the 70-300mm rarely leaves my camera bag. Sometimes, I just don't use it ;) So glad you're enjoying the 30mm Macro and discovering some of the "secrets" of the 10-24!

Hi Brendan! Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. The main reason I got the 30mm macro was to have a versatile, relatively fast, relatively small and light lens that I could pretty much always have in my bag. I'm really liking this lens for so many uses! Cheers...

I've had the 30mm f/2.8 macro for several weeks now and really like it. It was a redundant focal length for me, as I have both the f/2 and f/1.4 versions of the 35mm and the 27mm f/2.8 lens. The 27mm was a good lens for me, but I kept bumping up against the minimum focus distance which is too long for the pancake design. The 30mm gives a similar field of view and the same maximum aperture but with virtually no restriction for moving in tight. Seriously, this lens focuses to a point inside the deep lens hood.
Over 80% of my images with the 30mm are in the normal range, and it is sharp and fast to focus. The rest are closer than the 27mm would allow, but no where near 1to1 macro. Still, I'm glad that I bought this lens.

We sure have a wealth of choice regarding lens draw in the 40-50mm FF focal length in X mount: the 27 renders a bit like a Tessar but with sharp edges, the 1.8/32 Touit is classic Planar, the 1.4/33 razor crisp and buttery smooth in a fully modern sense, and the 1.4/35 draws not unlike the Sonnar designs. To that now add a macro. Good day these!

Like the goals you gave yourself, and the way you open up over the duplicates we all are making. Staking in our safe zone. Mine are puddles....I have the ricoh griiix, the pov is in the same area as of the 30mm fujinon. I have the 18mm 1.4 as a streetlens on the xt5. But I am looking to the 30mm also. I like to use it the same way as you are doing. From close by to my griiix pov. The wr plans a role in it too. My inspiration comes from the Germanen photographer Siegfried Hansen..Man, when I see the way he works, I just have to go outside. And Ithink the 30mm will help a lot. Thanks for the nice CZcams work! Keep it up. Oh, and walking instead of a zoomlens is better for our beautiful bodies too ;-))

A happy, prosperous and safe new year to you as well.
Your videos are a joy to watch and have convenced me of the X-H2 and XF 30mm macro lens as my next camera combo.
However, I would like to know how you "developed" your still shots for the two videos using the 30mm lens. Did you use an external photo editor (Lightroom, Capture One, etc.) or straight out of the camera. If the later what film simulation(s) did you use? What film simulations do you prefer?
Thank you for your efforts and may the force be with you.

The Core aka downtown Portland is an ideal place for 40 and 65mm FF eq photography given the small, walkable blocks. I had some good luck a while back in the “street macro” field pre-pandemic using a 1.8/35 Canon RF on a RP (which literally blew up...sparks and smoke included) and have wanted to pursue that aspect of street photography further. To have a weather resistant system for use in the PacNW now available is great. Once business recovers from the pandemic, I’m hoping to add the lens given what I’ve seen of the IQ.

Hi Nikki! I have never done scanning of 35mm film with a camera, so I recommend searching online for an expert answer. However, my starting point would be f/8 or f/11, as for most lenses that is their sharpest and highest contrast aperture. Hope that helps!

Hello Ahmad! Many thanks for watching and sharing your questions. Regarding building a concept for photos - that takes time, practice and lots of mistakes ;) I made a video with some tips that I use for this - czcams.com/video/slqp12QBBDY/video.html Regarding beginner level photography camera - there are too many variables to suggest one camera for you. I suggest searching CZcams camera reviews and seeing what cameras are most interesting for your needs and budget. Then remember two things: 1) there are no bad cameras - they're all really amazing! 2) there are no perfect cameras - no camera will do everything you want ;) Hope that helps a little bit. Best wishes on your photography adventures and please feel free to ask more questions!
