    Since it was mentioned @11:00, Fun Fact: My Hawaiian ancestors killed and ate Captain James Cook back in the 1700's, was caught stealing from the chiefs. Mahalo for showing us your beautiful Aina (Land) , May Akua (Matua) bless my Fijian Brothers and sisters.

      Kanaka Maoli got rid of Cook Feb 14 1779 - folks seeing us conscious Pasifika people out on the 14th Feb having dinner and drinking heaps of wine incorrectly assume that we're celebrating Valentines Day, What we're actually celebrating is Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) getting rid of Cook instead.😄😄

    The Prison their in Levuka, happened to be the 1st female Prison and my grandmother and few other ladies were the 1st batch of female officers.
    Up till today, whenever she comes to Fiji from Australia she stops over to visit one of her old colleague who looks after that old Ranch Home Stay in Pac Habour just past the Christian Centre Campsite.

    part 2; The Lovoni people surrendered on 29 June 1871. Women, children, old & young were made to crawl on hands & knees before their conquerors (Cakobau & the British merchants). Cakobau confiscated their lands & mortaged them to the Europeans - he had never possessed so much money before. Your history lesson for today.

    • @lanietuimabu428
      @lanietuimabu428 Před 8 měsíci +4

      They were never surrendered to Cakobaus army or any ordinary army in Fiji .It was the power of God brought by the English Revered Langham with a Holy Bible in his hand which they were surrendered to.Because they were already Christianised by a previous Reverend but were like backsliders because of the consistent wars they faced up there.Then the Reverend relayed to them Cakobaus invitation for a celebration feast in Levuka.So they all went down there nd layed their war clubs + spears away nd sat down to eat.As soon as they sat Cakobau signal to his army with their weapons to capture them nd the rest was history.

    I am a Fijian. The history books never taught us that in 1871 Rt Seru Cakobau sold the entire tribe of Lovoni, into servitude, @ £3 per head, he made £1,100. That's over 350 people! Many were taken by merchants to Taveuni & Lau, others were dispersed elsewhere.
    Their crime, they waged war against their European occupiers. The moral of the story, Indigenous people everywhere have resisted occupation. That's our history. (The LOVONI are Indigenous to this Island.)

      I was born and grew up in Ovalau. My Dad was part of the lads from Ovalau that built and worked in Pafco.We all knew Lovoni people were the taukei Dina of Ovalau. Sad story of how their people were slaves to blackbirding and they lost all their land. However they know where their people are today. Also sadly are the young Ovalau children today do not know their rich history. Parents should relay these stories to their children for their identity and sense of belonging. My 2 cents.

    @soulmanmonk Před 8 měsíci +4

    Part 3. By 1872 we learn that on this Island of Ovalau , the Europeans had built a bank, a church and the Levuka branch of the Ku Klux Klan. You can't talk about the history of this island without revealing these facts. That's our history.

    • @lanietuimabu428
      @lanietuimabu428 Před 8 měsíci +1

      And you cant talk about the history of Lovoni people up there when you said that they surrendered to Cakobau.Because they were not surrendered to Cakobau or any ordinary Fijian army but to a Missionary of God with a Bible.Edit that fact right please.

      @@lanietuimabu428 trues up ..the guy soul manmonk..talked nonsense of The History of this Mighty regions...The Lovoni people are such a Fearsome warriors.... They never surrender to anyone in fiji but to God alone through HIS Word(Bible).

    @soulmanmonk Před 8 měsíci +4

    Part 4: Levuka. 1st bank. 1st Church. 1st Ku Klux Klan branch. 1st sale of Indigenous people into slavery. The history of this Island wasn't pretty.
