Used to watch this is a kid as well. The 1984 -85 season with Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Martin Short, in the same season, has got to be the most underrated comedy lineup in the show’s history.
Guest is brilliant how he can morph in and out of so many characters over the years

This cast doesn't get talked about very much, but they revived the dying Saturday Night Live franchise after Eddie Murphy left. People started taking notice again. And these Willie and Frankie sketches were a big part of it. And then of course, they made the biggest mistake of the entire franchise, not BEGGING them to come back (They had all signed for just one year expecting it to be just one year, but many have said they would have stayed.) And following that mistake up with casting Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr...almost killing the show again. This was when NBC was looking for any excuse to pre-empt it, begging Vince McMahon to put on as many Saturday Night's Main Event specials as he could. And then they got lucky when Hartman, Carvey and Lovitz started the next year.

Stellar cast that season with Billy, Chris, Marty Short and Rich Hall. It's slowly but surely going downhill with a nameless cast and the worst writing ever....
