    Thanks for sharing! Great information! I bought mine 24 years ago and just got it on the road and couldn't believe the play in a new box! But thanks to you, no more!

    Hey Tim, great story. I have got two of your Vegaboxes. One of them had way over 70000 km behind her belt. The internals are great I just want to renew the ballbearings. Can you give me the partnumbers, that would be great, greatings from the Netherlands

    I thought that I was the only person with this issue. I have adjusted the snot out of the box and the play will NOT go away. Add a bumpy lane on the freeway...Mr. Toads Wild Ride!

    I just installed a new vega box on my 36 Plymouth. After 20 miles it's starting to get sloppy. Is it because its new and adjustment is just a part of the game or is it just a piece of hot garbage?

    I put a pair of grips lightly on each shaft and adjusted the play, so the pitman arm shaft would move pretty much instantly and was not tight through full travel. I could see the wheels start to move straight away, after I fitted it to the vehicle. The thing I’d like to know, is it common to have loads of play again, after taking it out for a test drive. Mine is now as bad as the old box I took off and I’m unsure if I should wind in any further. I had this problem on my old box, so I kept adjusting it in, to the point where the gears are hard in mesh, but the play was still there. Hence the reason for reply the box with a new one

      Sounds like you are having the exact same problem i am.. i done ran it all the way in after adjusting it 10+ times & still have slack... & kno for fact thats where its at everything else is new & tight

      Justin Mikell I was beginning to wonder about other connections. The only other thing it could be on mine, is the pitman arm moving on the spline, as the rest stays perfectly still

      Justin Mikell I was waiting for a reply from speedway motors. The woman gave me a number to ring for the tech guys, but no good to be, as will cost a fortune from the uk. Waiting to hear back, to see if there’s an email address in can use instead

      Speak of the devil, just had this reply from the tech guy, so will try under load this time
      Dear Neil,
      My name is Zach and I am one of the techs on staff here at Speedway Motors.
      Thanks for your question about Vega steering box adjustment. It is normal to not get all of the play if the steering box is not under a load. I would recommend performing the adjustment process again with weight on the tires. If the box develops additional play after a few miles, you could have a faulty box however that is very rare.
      If there is anything else I can help with please let me know,
      Zach

    WRONG! The big nut (preload on input shaft) should be verified. They are often too tight from the factory. Plus, your little washer on your adjustment screw was in the wrong location when you pulled the cover.

  • @Justinmikell
    @Justinmikell Před 4 lety

    Can you back it back out if you run adjustment screw in to much?

    • @neilbaker3151
      @neilbaker3151 Před 4 lety

      Yes you can, according to the instructions that come with it. I have also done this with my old box I took off

      @@neilbaker3151 didn't get instructions with mine.. bought from speedway & has slack in it just like the old one🤷‍♂️

    • @neilbaker3151
      @neilbaker3151 Před 4 lety +1

      Justin Mikell there were instructions in mine and they say it will probably need adjusting. It says to screw in 1/4 turn at a time, tighten lock nut then check. Repeat in 1/4 turns. If go too tight, it says to back out, I think 1/4 turn t a time

      @@neilbaker3151 yea i fought & adjusted 10 or 12 times.. seemed to pick up slack a couple times but after a couple miles of driving it went right back to being super loose 🤷‍♂️

    There steering gear boxes are awful. I've never bee able to get the large amount of play out. i even sent it back in for "adjustment
