Best Piston Rings For Boost | DIY Ring Gap vs Gas Port Rings
Lake Speed Jr. from Total Seal Piston Rings (www.totalseal.com) joins us to explore how piston ring gaps can give your car more of a boost.
As you add more boost and produce more power, you need a better material in your piston rings to handle the intensity of the combustion. Otherwise, your rings will rattle and wear down, which won’t do your engine any favors.
Upgrading from a Moly type ring to a PVD steel coated ring gives you added protection, durability, and lubricity as you add that boost.
Gas ported rings are also a great way to support your car’s boost because they allow the gas pressure to get behind the ring and seal out so the blowby will go down.

SoloSwap Mock Up Engine Blocks for V8 Swaps
I'm probably showing my age but for me I'll take the old Gen 1 engine.
100lbs ain’t that much. People act like it’s 300lbs heavier. I’ll take the iron block
Did u hear the crunch when the piston hit didnt sound good
My neighbor had a factory aluminum big block in his YENKO 69 CAMARO.
Hell yeah universal!!! My Ls swapped accord coupe bouta be all polished up with this thing inside!!!!!
Legitness 💯
'69 was the best looking.
Beautiful car! My first car was a 69 SS 350 i bought in 1982 for $500, Olympic Gold, which i didn't like, painted her Fathom Green. I owned that car for 29 years.
I'm continually impressed by the depth of insight and knowledge shared here.🍓
I'm in LS guy. I have an LS3 in my S10 daily. But that being said when you have a 500 cubic inch V8 chevy with a carburetor and a distributor shit hits the fan.
My 69 Z28 was for bolt Main
Why am I so set on my old school 350… ???… WAS… junkyards here i come… AWESOME JOB GUYS
What amazed me, the first time I looked under the valve covers, was how tiny the valve springs and rocker arms are.
Easy. GM didn’t design it 🤣
What am I doing with it
#1 cylinder is on the other side
Pansies building engines
So what you are saying is that they finally decided to make a skirted block like Mopar and Ford did 60 years ago? 😂. I'm not hating no denying they are good engines it's just kinda funny how this is new technology though.
Mail will never be late again
The aluminum blocks are not great in cold climates
Stout 😅 weird word to use
Do you for 6 lug?
Good blocks, but an old 454 BBC just can't be beat for the torque.
Are they new factory ends on drive shafts or are they used ?
My aluminum drive shaft has been beat on from the start it has been great it is bullet proff !!
Yeah but if you don't balance it with a flywheel and the harmonic dampener then. it'll be out
Drove a 100% built Speedway Motors T Bucket Kit Car for the whole PowerTour 2024 built in less than 9 months. Drove past the mail truck a few times...sweet ride especially in the sea of old muscle cars and corvettes 😂 Had a blast, but the Speedway Motors T Bucket is not the first choice for comfort
The caps are part of the block too
Wait till this guy come to the LS world and see that we have six bolt mains #OperationLS
So strange but so cool ❤
Awesome car and awesome plan. Show off all the hard work and then beat it to shit
Incredible Build..
It is worth noting that LSA is relative to the cam profile and motor. Overlap is the true source of lope. The desired overlap is application dependent, there is a balance between form and function.
It's OVERLAP that you hear.......get it right please.
I have a 55 Corvette that is pretty much just a frame, badly deteriorated body up to the firewall, no front end and a title. I just finished a 75 Countach that l bought as a basket case and it took 8 years to find all the missing parts and restore it. I want to a mild restomod, stock looking with modern running gear. Yours looks fantastic, nice job. If you do any of the big shows on the East coast l'll probably bump into you.
Best Corvette I,be ever seen
Has nothing to do with making horsepower.
Good way of putting things, short and sweet with good info. Great video Speedway!🤘🏼🤙🏼
I had a 70 SS Chevelle I drove to work for years with a 307 it was a 396 car and I put a 427 L 88 and I'd go big block every day I don't care what anybody says even if I got a put aviation fuel in it LOL
Holy sh.......t👍 ...
Awesome 😮😮😮😮
I like that analogy between the mountain and engine
O god here comes the know it alls .
LS2 is a better block
That's an absolute beauty
Heck yea drive it... wow it's awsome...
Damn, set me up for a start up then nope. ;) Good looking car indeed.
So, is it really a tight LSA, or an early intake valve opening? I'm other words, will a low duration cam on a tight LSA still sound like a bigger duration can with the same LSA?
They're called Flat tap at camshaft but the lifter is not flat
This is what happens when you have too much time and too much beer.
