its pretty common in videos like this to actually test it BEFORE you record the video. then record everyone "acting" like its a first start.

Ok...so the D-rod was sputtering at first...just getting air out of the system? All in all I'm very impressed. I've learned alot just by watching your fabrication. I know your sold on the fummins and 2 strokes but, how about some dmax time and or the old 7.3 "powerstroke" aka Navistar engines. Just throwing some ideas. Love your shows and tube clips

if you let the return pipe for the oil from the turbo go back up just above with the turbocharger and then down to the return inlet you have oil that lubricates at shutdown, the turbocharger's bearings last longer. the turbines spin at high rpm even after the engine is switched off. As you have pulled the pipes / return hose now, the lubrication will disappear if the return hose goes straight down as soon as the engine is shut down.
Like a loop,so oil puddles in bearings. Doesent all drain out.
Im no diesel guy by any means, but is that not a recipe for a runaway?
Dont want any chance of it backing up. And runaways only happens when it either has really bad piston rings or the turbo seals go out

Ya'll should switch over and run the updated 6.4 starter. Larger reduction gear for more torque when starting and last longer.

Looping a return hose is also an idea, but there are small amounts of oil as I described it. Doubts that the engine would run off it, in which case it can do so regardless of whether the turbocharges leak oil into the combustion chambers. There are small oil tanks that let the oil run over the bearings when the oil pressure ceases, called turbo rescues, but as I suggested if he has some oil that lubricates the bearings before the turbo stops and lubricates the turbo directly even when the engine is started. The mistake many make is not to let the engine and turbo run for a few minutes at idle only before shutting down and so as Steve is doing high rpm on the engine and then shutting down immediately it is what destroys the bearings in the turbochargers.

I really hope they broke in the cam off camera before this shot. Firing up any engine with a flat tappet cam (a cummins is flat) and letting it idle is the worst thing you could ever do!!!!!!!!

Are you sure that’s a 1000hp because your wasting all that fuel blowing it out the pipe with 600 foot pounds of torque.
A lot of times the extra fuel from rolling coal is on purpose to cool the cylinders and EGT's. Plus when the nitrous is on itll clean it right up
