My smart plug TS011F was allowing only data read. After updating firmware for my Sonoff stick, according to your instructions, finally it works like a charm :)
Thanks a lot !
That's awesome to hear!
Thank you so much for this, it helped me to get my stick to recognise the Aqara Roller Blind Driver E1.
Thanks Eb, A reminder that I have one that I no longer use and it's a Model P,
So i flashed it to router mode and worked with ConBee 2
perfect
HI Ed, many thanks for this good tutorial. My Zigbee2MQTT stop working yesterday. So decided to update the firmware to see if that would sort the issue. It certainly did, so now going through getting the paired devices back. As a point of note I had to have a couple of tries with the Vandyke flashing software as each time the first attempt gave a lot of errors. Giving it a second try worked each time. Thanks once more
Glad that it helped!
Thx mate, was very much lost, but this vid got the donlge back on track. Straight to 7.4.3.0
Thank you, it worked with sonoff zbdongle-e, zigbee2mqtt ver. 1.38.0-1 and firmware EZSP v13 7.4.3.0 build 0
Thank you for this video 👍
Hi Ed, thank you for again a splendid tutorial.
Being new in HA land you are helping me a lot.
The thumb is up and the bell has been ringing...
Maybe a suggestion for a new tutorial...
I want to create an automation for a RGB bulb or Ledstrip which changes color automaticly but in a very slow speed and fading from one color to the next so people won't even notice that color has changed.
Untill now i did not found any video's explaining how to do this.
Greetz Marc
Thanks. Will put it on the list.
Thanks for the guide !
Thanks for your support.
Merci pour cette super vidéo grâce à laquelle j'ai pu upgrader man clé Sonoff Zigbee 3 USG Donglle PLUS ZIBGEE - E (bien plus claire que le tuto Sonoff).
Thank you, nicely explained
Thanks for the feedback! Happy to help out!
Great video...
Kindly do a video tutorial on how to connect a Bluetooth speaker with Homeassistant OS or Homeassistant Supervised and stream music to bluetooth speaker using mpd.

I did the update thanks. Not all of my devices did came back even after I wake them up.
My aqara devices are still not stable, i missed the conbee on that matter
You're the best. Thank You
☺️
Hi Ed, used SecureCRT from Vandyke a few times now for flashing controllers with router software. However SecureCRT is not free and quite expensive to use after a the trial month. Is there any free alternative software package for the Xmodem file transfer that you can recommend? Kind regards! Raf
Thanks a lot for the excellent guide and blog. I've just got the dongle. How do you check its current firmware inside it?
I can't access zigbee2mqtt webui after installation, but no problem with ZHA. I need to know whether I need to update its firmware.
You're the best!
Thanks!
Thank you so much @SmartHomeJunkie! This tutorial worked like a charm for me. Can I ask, would it be possible to have more of these dongles but set up as repeaters instead of coordinators?
Yes you can. There's router firmware on the Sonoff site.
Thank you so much @SmartHomeJunkie! What are the advantages with the Ember firmware? Hardly any information to find out there.
Hi Ed, just saw a new version on the github page which was added 3 days ago titled ncp-uart-sw_6.10.7.0_115200.gbl
Is this a new firmware version? I couldn't use my E1 Aqara window sensor (zigbee 3.0) with the old firmware. Should I update?
Thank you very much Ed
Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate your support.
When do you use this firmware and when z-stack? In another video the sonoff USB was flashed with z-stack, but that wasn't the dongle-E. Is it because of the -E part, that z-stack does not support this?
Great video once again. Quick question: are there smokedetectors out there that work together with the Sonoff zigbee dongle? I already asked KaKu for info on the ZSDR-850 but they can't guarantee it will work. They responded that they haven't tested this themselves yet.
I use these: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DeHp8cx
What is pros and cons using ZIgbee2MQTT plugin and/or update firmware for dongle?
This will be a great solution instead of using a Telldus Tellstick Zlite that isnt available anymore.
I know this is only Zigbee. But how do i add Zwave and 433mhz as well? Are there any USBs for that?
Can i control my devices from Android phone? Can i control them remotely via some kind of cloud login? Like the Telldus Tellstick?
Hi my dongle wont go into boot mode? Any suggestions? Is the red light meant to flash?
I'm just getting started im still so confused. P is legacy hardware with better support. But E is the newer hardware but experimental in homekit? If I got an E would I not run into many problems?
I want to go zwave route. I live in an apartment which are close to other apartments and 2.4 ghz band is densely populated. Could you advice me up-to-date zwave controller competible with home assistant on raspberry pi.
Hi, Thanks for posting wonderful videos which can be followed by noob like me. I have a question. Can we add these Zigbee USB dongles after upgrading the firmware as router and put in a wall usb socket to increase the Zigbee mesh? Or do we need to put them in RasPi or mini systems only?
Just stick em in a wall usb😊
Hi Ed, thanks for another informative and helpful video. I was about to buy a Dongle from Sonoff and I needed your help. I read in some places that the newer version of this dongle (zb dongle-e) has some issues working with Zigbee2MQTT and was actually meant for ZHA. I just wanted Zigbee2MQTT, so should I go ahead and buy it? I was not able to find the older version (zb dongle-p) and can only buy the newer version (zb dongle-e). What are your thoughts on this? Your help would be certainly appreciated. Thanks again for all the videos, they sure help a lot!! Have a nice day!
Hey, just bought mine and I bought the E version of the dongle. didn't even know there's a new model. now i'm having trouble flashing it with the proper firmware for zigbee2mqtt. did you go ahead buying the dongle? did you manage to flash it ? I will update on this thread if i do manage. thanks
zigbee2mqtt recommended adapter for son off is the Dongle-P version ... should I get that or the Dongle-E will work. I wonder why to get the Dongle-E over the P version ....
i updated the firmware correctly, after the update the m2qtt still isn't working, trying to go back to ZHA but it's not communicating with the dongle after the upgrade. originally zha was fine and i had an issue with z2mqtt that's why i decided to upgrade the firmware to resolve this issue.
any idea how i can downgrade
Danke!
Thank you for your support!
@@SmartHomeJunkie No - I have to thank you for all videos you‘ve created
Hey, wanted to ask if you already updated it to a newer version. 6.1 is mostly stable for me but am considering to try a newer version. Thanks!
Thanks for a good video and for the links below.
Can you recommend firmware: ncp-uart-sw_7.2.0.0_115200.gbl ?
Hi,
How to Migrate from Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus model ZBDongle-P to ZBDongle-E with ZHA
Please help me.
Thanks!
Every body talk about how to install sonoff zigbee dongle P or E with home assistance, but how to use that without homeassitance, not everyone wanna use homeassitance only the zigbee, is it possible?
Has anyone tried the latest one available ncp-uart-sw_7.3.1.0_115200.gbl ?
Great video, thanks. if the stick is flashed, does Z2M have to be confronted again? So the entry with EZSP out?
No need.
Thanks for another great video. Thinking of getting a Sonoff instead of my Conbee II for my new install of HA on a Virtual Box. Would I upgrade the stick before even installing it once into HA or install it first, then upgrade it? Also what advantages does this stick have over the previous version? Many thanks and keep up the good work.
Please be aware that this stick is still experimental in Zigbee2MQTT. Some devices are not well supported yet. It all depends on what devices you have of this stick is right for you.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Thanks. Will have to look for a list but thinking the original will be enough in my house

Great video, Ed. Did you ever figure out your issue with battery drainage?
Yeah, don't use Zigbee2MQTT. With ZHA there's no battery drainage. It's sad...
@@SmartHomeJunkie Thanks for your reply. Weird. I have been using ZHA for some time, still getting drainage on Hue Dimmer Switch and IKEA Fyrtur. Had to revert to using the IKEA hub for the blinds.
hi! are your aqara motion sensors working (RTCGQ11LM)? I can pair them with zbdongle-e but they are not updating data, e.g. occupancy information. I tried updating firmware but it did not help, tried also ZHA integration instead of Z2M, to no avail. Is there anything else I should try before buying the P version of the stick?
I have the same problem. Any luck finding a solution to this?
It would be great if you could update this tutorial now that e ezsp is officially deprecated and ember is now officially supported in Z2M!
Working on it 😏
Hi, very informative. I have been trying to find out if I need to update my dongle, but there is a lot of talk about whether it is a P dongle or an E dongle. Is there any easy way to find this out. In my HA it has the following information 'EZSP = Silicon Labs EmberZNet protocol: Elelabs, HUSBZB-1, Telegesis by ZHA, and how do you know what the current firmware version is. Thank you.
I explain that in this video:
Install Zigbee2MQTT THE RIGHT WAY with the Sonoff ZBDongle E in Home Assistant - Tutorial
czcams.com/video/4y_dDgo0i2g/video.html
Thank you for your video. Why didn't you use the latest version 7.1.4.0 or 7.2.0.0 ? is it really necessary to update or can i use in Zigbee2MQTT without updating? Thanks.
You can try that version as well. There will be newer versions in the future.
What is the range of the p or e version. I currently have the e version but devices further away than 10m with a wall in between i only get status but cant set them (plug w/ energy meter). On the e version it says experimemtal for z2m so i wonder if the range would be increased for the p version
The range shouldn't be an issue. You need to build a strong mesh network with enough router devices like lightbulbs. It's always a guess if it will work of you do not have a strong mesh network and based on how your house is built.
Hello, congratulations for your splendid work, I would like to ask you a perhaps trivial question but not for me, what is the second file "nvm3_initfile.gbl" for? A thousand thanks
I understood that it was needed to initialize the firmware, but I understood from others that it works without that one too.
👍
Thanks for the vid. Of course at the time of making this, existing dongles would need to be updated, however you do not mention how to identify current firmware. I am waiting for arrival of this dongle, how do i know if i will need to update the firmware from the get-go?
You can see the firmware version in Zigbee2MQTT.
Friend, why didn't you update to version 7.1.4.0 that was already available? Isn't she stable?
I had lots of issues with sonof dongle e - the whole network would go down daily. I discovered it was caused by my recently added Ikea Blind Repeaters (I wasn't using them with the blinds so I added them as repeaters). I removed them from network and it's been solid since.
I have not been able to flash my sonof dongle e but it works fine now so i will not upgrade.
I did try to upgrade a few times to fix it but i simply couldn't get it to update. need to try a new pc. Hopefully if others are having issues with dongle e - are you using ikea repeaters? if so remove them.
I was wrong and i still had issues :)
ZBDONGLE-E for ZHA is some other video? Why differentiate if its Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA when firmware update will not depend if its used on Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA but mostly on the chipset used as its different in ZBDONGLE-E v's ZBDONGLE-P? Or am I missing something?
This video might hero you out. Set Up ZHA in Home Assistant - TUTORIAL

Hmm... when I flash, it goes to 100% and 0 errors, but the "Serial upload complete and Gecko Bootloader" do not show up :/ So I cannot flash init file :( I don't know why...
That doesn't sound right indeed 😢
What was the issue with Aqara battery devices ? I have a P dongle, and removed P1 sensor... And now it seems impossible to pair it again... that is why hints are appreciated :-)
The dongle P shouldn’t give you any issues.
Hi Ed. I have a sonoff dongle E. I am using HomeAssistant z2m. After reaching 55 devices, lag started. What do you think I should do? Do I need to buy a sonoff P dongle and install Koenkk's firmware ? Ithink Koenkk's software doesn't support sonoff dongle e :/. ??? Ty..
Indeed, the E is still experimental in Zigbee2MQTT. The P is more reliable. But... It can also be that you do not have enough router devices in your mesh network.
Hi i dont see the usb port when i plug in my sonoff "zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus E " into my windows computer!
Must i frist install the usb driver ?
If yes where can i download it ?
thx you for all your videos
I think the link to the forbade can be found on the Sonoff site somewhere.
Can you use multiple Sonoff Dongle with one Home Assistant? Would Like to extend the netowrk coverage, Thank you
Yes you can. Flash the other doubles with router firmware from Sonoff and you will be fine.
What kind of issues might I look for? The only problem I seem to have is when HA is restarted and Zigbee2MQTT doesn't restart and find the devices automatically. Would this firmware update solve that?
No I don't think so.
Is there any way we can avoid adding all devices again even if I only have to restart them? I have more than 100 devices and to restart them is going to take me a lot of time. An update from HA direclty would be better but I don't think is working like this.
The same here, this is wright witin a test environment. But trigger al devices manually is a nogo with much components.
Do you think you can use one dongle connected to two separate machines running HA? Great videos
I don't think that is possible. The dongle has only one usb connection. Not sure if I understand your question correctly.
@@SmartHomeJunkie splitter cable usb female for dongle to two usb male for the two machines running HA
@@stevephipps9305 I don't think that will work. But you never know.
i have never heard of E version. is this E same as this SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus?
No, it's a newer version, but the Dongle-P is still the best I think.
So I actually have this device and was wondering if it's worth updating. I'm using it with zigbee2mqtt, and I've noticed sometimes after restarting HA some devices are gone untill I reconnect them. Kind of what happened with all your devices after you updated the device. Would this be something which might be solved in a later version?
I'm not sure. It might, but it's not clear to me what the update exactly fixes yet.
5:00 you unscrew it so easily here. I tried so hard to unscrew mine, I even put it in a vice (gently) and used pliers to grip the tiny screwdriver I had for it to get extra leverage (no other screwdriver would fit, even one for those tiny screws for fixing glasses was too wide)😂 I just felt like the head was being worn away every time it slipped out so I stopped... I guess the python script that puts it in bootloader mode is the only option (if that is for Dongle E too but am not 100% sure).. But haven't got that to work either yet.
Eventually got the screws undone, but only by putting the screwdriver in a vice and using the dongle as a screwdriver for better grip and leverage (the screwdriver is sooooo tiny its hard to grip it better and get enough torque on it with such a narrow diameter handle, at least with my hands).
This udpate worked for me for the first time. Not sure why but the original approach didn't I found dongle e to be unstable but hoping the new firmware fixes it.
I can get my devices to appear in Z2M per your instructions but MQTT broker is giving me this error: This entity is no longer being provided by the mqtt integration. If the entity is no longer in use, delete it in settings.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the broker and re started HA but no luck. If anyone hits same issue and solves it please let me know thank you
turns out I needed to update the integration (settings device serices integration and ensure that was setup right as i had changed my passwrod for mqtt user)
How would this work with ZHA?
is the linked firmware the one with support for 100+ devices?
It doesn't really matter as long as you have enough router devices in your network.
Great info! Thanks for sharing it. I intend to use it as a router. Is there a router firmware for dongle-E?
Yes, there is. sonoff.tech/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/SONOFF-Zigbee-3.0-USB-dongle-plus-firmware-flashing-.pdf

I hadn't pressed the 2 buttons on the Dongle. It worked as soon as I did.
That's the way I did it too, except the init file. I haven't used it. What is it good for?
I understood it was needed to init the stick, so I used it just to be sure.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Ok, I did it without and it worked like a charm. I have now two of these one as a router.
Before I tried the P, but I had very bad results. Problems with connecting and stability problems.
Even though I think the stability problems came from my Zigbee bulbs. I bought some from Pearl (company here in Germany) they are labeled as Luminea, but seem to be Tuya TS0505B. At least according to Z2M. Those bulbs are rubbish. They disconnect and often you can't reconnect them without relearning. There router functionality is near 0. I could not connect my Aqara P1 with them nor would any device connect through them. I read somewhere that the P1 wouldn't change connection to another device than they where connected to during the learning process. But thats not true. I exchanged the bulb against Ledvance and they run fine. the network is stable, the Aqara P1 even automatically connect to them where the signal was better to them.
Now I have a stable Zigbee network (partially with the help of your video for finding my problems and switching to the E version even though this video I didn't need anymore). Nevertheless thanks for your help.
Now I want a Samsung A8 tablet as a HA control with Kiosk mode. I found your video about it, but still not fully sure how I want to do it. Via app or via browser. Additionally I'm searching for a way of a device based Kiosk mode instead of the user based one you used (If I find a way and you're interested I can send you a mail how I did it, but I fear there is actual no solution).
Keep on going!
@@captain_loeffel Thank you for this comment. I use Fully Kiosk icw the Kiosk Mode in HA and that works very well for me.

I just bought this Sonoff zigbee dongle plus-E and I'm trying to get its firmware updated before installation. I keep finding conflicting information on this topic though. Many are saying that there are no official firmware upgrades for the dongle-E yet. And still others are suggesting that any firmware upgrades that are available are not advisable to install due to stability issues. Can you clarify the actual status here? Are these official firmware updates? Are there any concerns with updates? I'm installing on a fresh HAOS system on bare metal, and at present I have no zigbee coordinators or zigbee devices in the system. I just got this dongle-E yesterday, and so far all I've done is install Mosquitto broker and enable the mqtt integration. I haven't installed zigbee2mqtt yet (I'm also aware that this is experimental with the dongle-E).
my devices are not coming back after the update, out of 61 only 3 are showing up :(
That unfortunate 😢 what bakens if you turn them off and on manually?
How many devices can I pair with this dongle using Zigbe2MQTT?
I do not know the exact figure, but using a mesh network, it should be hundreds.
is there any other software except for SecureCRT 9.3 i don't want to register there
I have succesfully used extraPutty sw, connecting to Com Port, then. Enter 1 then click “File transfer” at the top → Xmodem → send.
It is important that you push 1 and then you will see: CCCCCCC
While you see this you have to start the file transfer.
After that extraputty uploads the firmware and after finishing you have to push 2
@@aldoboccini7437 thank you
See the link in the description. I also added a link that you can use without having to register. But it's at your own risk to use that one.
Right, That is bad practice... If you do... give them all bad info...😁
Believe it or not, I can't disassemble the stick. Tried a couple of different screwdrivers for small devices and none worked. Ended up stripping the screws. I wouldn't care too much about the firmware if it worked out of the box, but nothing is discovered. Tried different methods to connect the stick - direct into the device, USB hub, USB extension - but no luck. It just times out after searching for devices for some time. Good video though.
You might want to try to install the windows drivers for the stick. This might help.

Yeah, this stick is troublesome every now and then. The Dongle-P seems more reliable than the Dongle-E.
That is the crappiest website I have every seen to download software. I had to repair all my Zigbee devices since there is no reboot option on these things. The relays in my light switches were fun :).
Oh, that's not fun...
It's bad software if it requires all of that personal info and registration.
3:52 - forcing people to register by revelaing such a huge amount of personal data should be a crime!
"Reboot the host" !? What the **** does that mean?
Don't be rude. 🙄 It means you need to reboot the whole server. This is the host of Home Assistant.
Hi Ed, I just followed the tutorial and now the dongle is up and running. Just wonder if the update really worked out because the dongle failed to add some devices.
Upon checking the hardware, ID is /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITEAD_SONOFF_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_V2_20230218160515-if00 (ID_REVISION 0442). Is it up-to-date yet?
Secondly, when I try to pair old zigbee switches to this new coordinator, it shows "device has left network" multiple times and then not added. Does it mean the switches did actually join the network but somehow left it, or it's just the switches are out of range from the dongle? Thank you very much Ed
This Dongle-E is still experimental. I experience drop offs also every now and then. You can also try to update to a newer version which is on that site. (I did not test it yet)
@@SmartHomeJunkie Thank you very much. I installed the ncp-uart-hw_6.10.3_115200 version and it seems to be the latest release. One more question please, my HA said it discovered a new device and asked me to configure it. Turned out it was Zigbee Home Automation recognizing my "SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2". I've never installed/used ZHA ever on my machine. Does it mean ZHA firmware still on the dongle and the update was failed? I tried to set up ZHA as it asked but also failed "Failed to probe the usb device". Should I be worry, or should I re-flash the dongle?
@@johnson1589 No worries. ZHA is the native zigbee integration in Home Assistant. You cannot use ZHA together with Zigbee2MQTT on the same stick. Just disable ZHA in Home Assistant and you'll be fine.
@@SmartHomeJunkie ohh I didn't know that. Thank you so much
After updating like you said in the video i have problems with 8 IKEA lights, and get errors like; publish set color temp. SendWhenimmediate timeout failed. sendZclFrameToEndpointinternalerror. they stay on or dont get triggered, every time the motion sensors need to trigger the lights i get this error. they turn on sometimes, sometimes they dont turn on but instead wont turn off.
Oh, that's not good. I do have a couple of Ikea lights myself, but I do not experience these issues (yet).
@@SmartHomeJunkie well after 2 days of a hassle i almost gave up. but i tried the ncp-uart-sw_EZNet6.10.3_V1.0.1.gbl. from the Sonoff Github, this one looks fine for the first hours so far!
@@MrJoreng I'm glad to hear that!
