Madden 93 was my first and I was the best on madden 10 and 13.. 10 and 13 had good engines. This new crap without user catching is dumb. PS2 had the best user catching and gameplay overall.
It scared me for the first phew times, but then I got use to it. It was really cool since we never seen games like that good since tetris. Thurman Thomas was unstoppable no matter what happened.

I used to love those individual training drills like the running back and cover cone challenges. So much better than the silly 40 yard dash and bench press they replaced it with. I don't understand why they don't bring back the Madden truck challenges.

I LOVED QB vision! The only time in the franchise where could really play like a quarterback and look off defenders. Miss the training camp as well for franchise mode. Just felt looks ALOT of the gameplay was lost over the years. They need to bring alot of the gameplay back from the early to mid 2000s.
just imagine what they couldve done using the same engine or whatever from madden 10 and just improve the little things that were messed up (size of the field, tackleing animation, QB movement, etc)
it started getting good at madden 06, in fact that's the last madden agme I played untill I got madden 13 for the vita, and holy crap what a difference, the tackle animations have improved so much, multiple players can tackle one instead of awkwardly just glitching through eachother, the tackle break system is awesome too and the great commentary,
09 is the best, between all the combine activities like to 40 yard dash, bench press, etc. and the simulator thing where it was all blue. I also liked the original madden moments and the attributes each player had (stiff arm running backs, pass pro lineman, rocket arm quarterbacks) 09 was fun as ever.
My first madden game was 08 since i didn't get into football til recently, but I now have madden 64 for my nintendo 64. Love playing the throw back Madden!
the graphics on Madden 03 on computer were waaaaaay ahead of its time. It's sad to think back though at how much better NFL2K would have been if EA hadn't stole the rights to use NFL player names.
2006 was like a funeral for Madden in my eyes... When they made the jump to the Xbox 360 and changed the whole dam engine it was a huge mistake by EA ...
09 is when it got how it is today. Which was my favorite Madden. 10 was worst than 09, but 11 does look more fluid in mechanics and sharper graphics than all of the others. 12 looks pretty much like 11 from what I've seen on youtube videos. Hopefully 13 is actually an improvement. I didn't even buy 11 and 12 and returned 10 after a few days.

QB Vision in Madden 06. Throwback! Forced people to have to deal with the real life flaws of non elite QB's. Peyton's was the entire field, Vick's was super small.
I thought the last year of madden was real at first. It's amazing how it's changed in just a few years, considering from 89-98 it was pretty much the same.
It really peaked at 05 in terms of the simulation aspects. After EA bought out the rights the game started declining until 08, when it hit rock bottom. It wasn't much better at all in 09, then it picked back up in 10, then just crashed again with 11, and now it's pulling back up. Nowhere near as good as it can be.
Madden never bought out Gameday. Gameday failed due to horrible porting to the PS2 while Madden's game play remained smooth and fresh, relatively speaking, and 2K Sports came in the game strong. The main reason why no other NFL games exist now is due to EA gaining exclusive rights to the NFL in 2004. This blocked all other manufacturers from creating NFL games past 05. This exclusivity runs to 2014. Hopefully it will not be extended, again, and there will be competition in this genre.

Took the words right out of my mouth...The last Madden I spent $60 on during my freshman year of College. It was a joke and the worst Madden ever, next to Madden 11.
They are certainly not getting worse. Each new one is technically better than the previous one. However, in the past several years there has definitely been diminishing returns at play. I can't argue that any of the past few Maddens have been significantly better than the one directly before it. As a whole they've made great strides, but not enough to warrant a new $60 game every year.
people dont give madden 12 enough credit you can just feel the difference in realism and nfl authenticity when you see madden 11 and then go to 12. But of course 13 is the best madden yet.

I miss those Training Camp drills from Madden 03-05 so much, that was awesoe how you could improve weaker players by using them in drills.

1998 Madden with Barry Sanders was the year this game went big time on the formations and graphics.
05 implemented the defensive controls n an awesome mini camp mode that allowed u to progress ur players right before the season..
