The Swingle Singers perform "Lady Madonna" during a rehearsal at Symphony Hall in Boston MA on June 7, 2011. For a full interview with the singing group go to radioboston.wbur.org/2011/06/0...
I recall hearing the original Swingles in the Sixties eg. Jazz Sebastian Bach and never forgot them, being further delighted that the 'spirit & format' were regenerated and still continue. I think it was late nineties or early naughties that I found recent recordings of great arrangements & precision vocals. They are amongst my favourite musicians, - I love most of the stuff they do! So sorry to hear Ward Swingle had passed. He will not be forgotten.
This is Carol Canning's arrangement, just a little updated to a more contemporary uptempo, beatboxed fashion. To hear it as it was released in "Ticket to Ride" in 1990s (with a more jazzy and relaxed feel) watch?v=rMlnLfMuYrs The arrangement was first released in the 1989 album "1812".
i would love to sing with these guys and gals i could harmonise very nicely i would not be any bother .x i have loved these singers since the 1960s genius to say the least x
EL GENIO DE THE SWINGLE SINGERS NO HA SIDO SUPERADO Y DUDO QUE LO SEA, PUES MARCARON UNA DISTANTE Y DISTINTA META, A LA QUE SOLO LLEGAN LOS PRIVILEGIADOS Y ESCOGIDOS POR DIOS.
Ward Swingle died today at age 89. He founded the group in the early sixties. He's been retired and hasn't had anything to do with the current singers that use the name. I like this modern version more than I thought I would. Their vocal affectations reflect modern style, but not so much as to be over the top and annoying. I like the slow rocker feel and the little places where the lead can improvise. I too wonder who arranges this and their other stuff. The internal harmonies work but don't have the tension and release of say a Gene Purling But then again, geniuses like Purling don't grow on trees. The early swingle groups was more about inovative ways to sing classical music. I don't find any of that in the videos of the modern groups. Ward Swingle was an innovator. He has left a geat legacy and a mark on vocal music. You could say that the great Manhattan Transfer were the love child of Lambert Hendrix and Ross and the Swingle Singers. I'll carry him in my thoughts to day and try to remember him each time I hear great vocal harmonies.
Hi Jack, as far as I´ve heard Ward chose his successor as the new leader of the swingles. And afterwards he was still connected with them by exchanging new ideas and giving some advices.
Superbe Je chante dans une petite chorale en France à Bouc Bel Air 13320. Est il possible de commander vos partitions à 4 voix s'il vous plait. I sing in a smal chorla inBouc Bel Air , south of France. Is it possible to order some partitions. Many thanks in advance. Best regards. Bruno Bonne soirée. Bruno

We were lucky enough to hear them live here in Evansville a few years ago. I’ve been a fan since I first heard them in the early 70’s.
The casual display of musicianship is so much more impressive than over-produced pap.
Loved this. Rhythm and bluesy! 🥰
Such a cool, smooth sound. Lovely, sophisticated phrasing... and it's a rehearsal!
I was around and had a couple Swingle albums in the sixties. I think this iteration of them does just a fine job, too!
Ludicrously good. This is the definition of singing.
Fantastic! The lady in the middle has a very fine voice!

Bonne soirée.
Bruno
Спасибо !!!
Классно...
These are "my Swingles"
Why does this sound like it was recorded under water?
Take 6 may have hints of Swingle...
ahhahahahaha! nice sarcasm there! =)
which is not to say that the guys are bad xD on the contrary. But in this song the girls are just superb
0:22 "Nadonna???"
They did omit one verse: Lady Madonna, baby at your breast, Wonder how you manage to feed the rest.
Its nice. But the first french manner was unbeatable. Listen to the «Swingles» of the 60/70’s again
11people are deaf.
These cannot the same swingle singers I remember from the sixties, they look too young
As with so many groups, people come and people go. Yes, these are new people and not the ones from the 60's.
Uninterresting arrangement. Lukewarm interpretation. Disappointing.
Lost me at the flip-flops. C'mon...you're performing on camera.
it sux!
Ruined a great fun song. Wrong song choice.
