    That compound setup is really nice and well thought out. The sizing on the compressors is important as well as the charge pipe routing/ length. Definitely a good amount of r&d was put into that kit. Really quality stuff right there, and nice that the compound style makes it more linear and power more useable rather than it having to rev way out to be into boost, its basically ready to go down low and gives you a much broader power band. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing Rich! 👍👍

  • @alexmann1863
    @alexmann1863 Před 3 lety +20

    If you wanted to get some more power and efficiency out of that set up you could put a true “inter cooler” between the turbos to cool the charge air. Cooling between compression stages give you a lot of bang for your buck.

    The the top turbo's wastgate line could be done in hard-line with just rubber at each end to keep neat and out of way. Your turbo oil supply lines could be swapped. Top turbo oil from outer port that was a sender, run it up the outer side of the snail, feed bottom turbo from inner port with 90° elbow as your top turbo oil line way to close to manifold.

      Bi turbo is the simplest, 2 turbos and 2 separate banks like sides of a V6/V8 or front 3 and back 3 of an inline 6. Compound is like this video with one turbo feeding the other then to the motor. Sequential is 2 turbos but one is bypassed until high boost to help spool times.

    Just a note on turbos about one thing that never gets explained. Do people know why turbos are kind of altitude compensating? The volume of exhaust going through the turbo is one factor the other is the density or heaviness of the exhaust gases. As the air gets less, mixture gets rich, exhaust gets heavier and the turbo spins up giving more air all at the same rpm. Same works with more load, fuel is added exhaust gets heavy spins the turbo . An example almost every mechanic has had moisture from an air compressor blast through their impact tools, notice the higher speed change! (Edit to add this) When that happens notice how cold the tool get.

    could the longer oil feed line go around the other side of the upper turbo to avoid the hot manifold?

      A marginally mechanically minded mate of mine decided to change diff gears in his old commodore 25 or so years ago. Well he didn't realise the L on the crownwheel bolts meant left handed thread. He sat on the first one with a rattle gun tightening it up until it loosened off. That was a good learning experience for him. He went on to become a good butcher

    I just stopped by to complain about the paint!!!! ... The this, the that, the microscopic possibility that someone might see such this'es or that'es....Oh, the humanity!!! Love the build by the way. Glad for the tips and tricks, as the almost exact set-up is going in my old F350... Thanks for all the efforts... You want to piss those complaining about paint, dig out the brush and of lead-based paint and slap some of that on something... You'll really hear the screaming hords...

    Are you not worried about the short manifold bolts? I've heard people say that longer bolts with sleeves handle the thermal expansion better.

    For those exhaust manifold bolts that mount the turbo, could you get a crows foot on it on a torque wrench to torque it?

    • @silula21
      @silula21 Před 3 lety

      Crow foot will change the torque reading a bunch. Depending on the angle between the crow foot and the torque wrench.

    I had a 10AN drain on my HX35W and it wouldn't spool right(2001 Cummins in a 2002 Ford), watched a video from turbo lab of america about them not flowing enough oil thus dragging the turbo down and replaced it with a stock style and now it spools perfectly. I'm curious to see what your results will be with 2 of them and those AN drain lines.

    Don't do the coolent bypass, you'll never have heat in the winter . They feed into the heater core . Could always do a separate line up to the top of your thermostat elbow and put a ball valve in it so you can turn it off for the winter .
    Or even better Put a thermostat housing at the back of the block and run a separate hose up to the original thermostat elbow and drill and tap the top of thermostat elbow 1/2 npt .

    • @jessename7849
      @jessename7849 Před 3 lety

      There are coolant bypass with a thermostat built into them.
      Best to return bypass flow into the water pump intake flow.

    5:00 go get a socket from the reject pile of old tools, weld it to the center of a wrench from the same pile of unsorted tools. do the math on the length beyond the head of the torque wrench... now that bolt is torqued. torque wrench fits the socket and the wrench with the socket welded to it still fits in that tight space...
    "do not start stamping wrenches that have square holes in the center to fit a torque wrench, they will only buy them once"
