"why's the ford get a bus engine I want a bus engine" Cracks me up Everytime 🤣
Funny thing is the 24v is also a bus engine, I have one. Of course maybe the irony of that makes it even more humorous.
@@kc360awareness The OBS basically had a bus engine too. I know they had different names and were tuned differently but the 7.3 light truck and medium duty truck/bus version are the same for all practical purposes.
@@benjamins9121 if you are referring to the OBS Ford F-350, the particular one he bought had a 460 in it, not a 7.3 PS
Rich’s mouth and voice on the front of the Silverado made me laugh a lot harder then expected. Required some explanation to those around me lmao!!!
much respect when you said "without throwing coal" love your channels

I love that my local diesel shop is getting out there as much as they are, power driven is amazing and there customer service is great also

Super Turbo.
Me when I watch these videos: "I like your funny words magic man".
1:31 Dude has a super clean fave then he goes and rub his face straight passion for working on engines we need mechanics like him
3:28 neat wrench/Allen wrench technique! So much valuable knowledge packed into these videos. Thanks Rich!
The Canuck/Northeast vibe speaks to me; I'm literally across the river from Sarnia. I'm a mechanical engineer for the Motor City and this gives me some serious parts envy. Well-filmed, well-spoken, informative. Badass!
EDIT: Apparently you're only 2.5 hours away. I might have to visit once the pandemic is over.
Live about 10 minutes from sarnia accross from stag island or marysville Michigan. Small world
Give us a glove update rich! Let's see them baby soft hands 😄
Let me see I'm almost 60 and I think I've been using that double wrench method for about 45 years as good as any breaker bar almost
There's an actual extension handle made to fit into wrenches
That compound setup is really nice and well thought out. The sizing on the compressors is important as well as the charge pipe routing/ length. Definitely a good amount of r&d was put into that kit. Really quality stuff right there, and nice that the compound style makes it more linear and power more useable rather than it having to rev way out to be into boost, its basically ready to go down low and gives you a much broader power band. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing Rich! 👍👍
If you wanted to get some more power and efficiency out of that set up you could put a true “inter cooler” between the turbos to cool the charge air. Cooling between compression stages give you a lot of bang for your buck.
adds to spool up time and takes up even more room if you can fit it great but my understanding is most trucks don't have the room to do it
4:49 that's how I know you are a veteran mechanic. Using tricks that my grandpa taught me.
You should see if gray tools would sponsor you, seeing that you live so close to them. I also think it would be great exposure for such a small Canadian company. We’ve had their wrenches for a long time I think my Grandpa picked them up at a garage sale and they’ve held up extremely well. The new ones are crazy expensive though.
Pdd and DDP are the move for 12v power mods.
I've got a ford ranger 2lt BI-TURBO diesel in Australia. That little engine puts out 210hp and 368 ft-lb, its an amazing little engine.
Send me Bara engines.
Well split the profits 50/50
Hi Rich how’s it going? Although I knew what the plans were with regards to the compound charged 24 valve P pump Cummins but I didn’t expect it to look so damn good.
Massive respect for you and of course Power driven diesel for creating what looks to be an amazing setup. 👌🏻
Thanks man. Wait till you see the paint job!
Always agree with Turbo Yoda!!!😆
I feel like dual boost gauges would be cool :) One on the Secondary turbo and one on the intake :)
& pyrometers
BROCOZILLA!!! Nobody else has done anything close barely anybody is even playing with this new engine come on we need it!!
I love turbos, so relaxing / satisfying to me!
Great explanation of compound turbo and how it works
Two great channels to watch PDDS great.
Love the progress Rich. Be awesome when both trucks are running.
A thing of Beauty...well done
Fascinating video Rich! 👍🏻
Great explanation Rich. Great vid thanks for sharing .
Your a rockstar
Egts are just a number
Love your work keep it up!
The the top turbo's wastgate line could be done in hard-line with just rubber at each end to keep neat and out of way. Your turbo oil supply lines could be swapped. Top turbo oil from outer port that was a sender, run it up the outer side of the snail, feed bottom turbo from inner port with 90° elbow as your top turbo oil line way to close to manifold.
Sunday morning, diesel, turbo x2. nothing better
looks sweet
PDD is all I needed to hear to get a thumbs up...
Love to hear you do a video talking about twin turbo setups like compound, sequential, biturbos and more if there is more. Cause I am curious what are the differences.
Compound is sequential
Bi turbo is the simplest, 2 turbos and 2 separate banks like sides of a V6/V8 or front 3 and back 3 of an inline 6. Compound is like this video with one turbo feeding the other then to the motor. Sequential is 2 turbos but one is bypassed until high boost to help spool times.
I reckon some of those spooly Bois might end up in Australia .
Nice video ! Power driven diesel is the way to go ! What a nice kit. You will like the afc live !! I had it on my previous 12v😬👌🏻💪🏻
Nice Rich 👍
I love this channel
mint
"Get it into position, then tighten your cartridge into your exhaust housing."
Giggity.
Love the content Rich. Explained perfectly for us idiots like me. And you do some really cool builds. Keep it mate.
Just a note on turbos about one thing that never gets explained. Do people know why turbos are kind of altitude compensating? The volume of exhaust going through the turbo is one factor the other is the density or heaviness of the exhaust gases. As the air gets less, mixture gets rich, exhaust gets heavier and the turbo spins up giving more air all at the same rpm. Same works with more load, fuel is added exhaust gets heavy spins the turbo . An example almost every mechanic has had moisture from an air compressor blast through their impact tools, notice the higher speed change! (Edit to add this) When that happens notice how cold the tool get.
all the boost 😍
So far the cummins is looking pretty beast, might have to look into this for myself. 🤔
Now that’s a tidy set up. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤜🤛🇬🇧🇨🇦🇬🇧🇨🇦
FWIW I'd re run that top oil feed line around the other side of the compressor housing, so its not so close to the the exhaust manifold
You just crank it down til it starts to strip, back a quarter turn, then call the apprentice over
OIl patch tight, make it tight, then give it 2 more turns
Power Driven Diesel for the win! I have their filter and I love it
NEEDZ MOAR INTERCOOLERZ
Want to start off by saying I'm a huge fan and you inspired me to do a Cummins swap on my old OBS Ford, welded my own engine mounts drive shaft and all the other things that you know what goes into it,
You could call it the “high pressure turbo” instead of primary, that’s what CAT calls them, and it kind of makes sense.
reminds me of a song.. "shotgunnin' in a CUMMINS Silverado!"
Hey Rich your channel rocks
Thanks man!
Can’t wait to see and hear it run putting a 12 valve in my 99 f250 can’t wait to get it done
Why do all you Ford guys put Cummins in your trucks? Aren't the Ford diesels any good?
@@tigerseye73 yes the 7.3 turbo diesel in Ford are a great engine but I just want to put in one that is mechanical like the 12 valve instead of electrical like the 7.3 or 6.0
Never been this early.
This is THE engine that needs to go in #CleetusMcfarland's humvee
DT466!!
Turbo Yoda:"Use the force...d induction!"
I just want him to say pressure ratio once when talking about the compounds :)
I would run both oil feed lines on the outside instead of one on the inside.
Running it on the outside will keep it away from the exhaust more and you can pair them to look neater.
"Woah you rolling coal except its blue"
Rolling smurfs.
I just ordered BorgWarner SXE366 in a .91 AR Housing for my 3.0 liter BMW N54. One size smaller turbo than your secondary turbo

I love your videos you’re very informative I’ve been a diesel mechanic for over 20 years you mention about it I might just build a costly build how much does it cost to do this 24 valve TwinTurbo set up
The included caps on the Block Drain fittings are for pounding them in. Didn't need to use the socket.
That makes sense. I had a box full of them in my service truck to put on lines to keep them clean. My brain automatically goes to that setting
👍
That oil line looks really close to the manifold I’d run it the other side of the turbo even if I had to get a new hose just my opinion it’ll be fine I’m sure I heard him say you can run it different then he did (I’m just poking everyone with ocd now they are going be thinking about it lmao)
Instead of using straight oil to lubricate the turbos before startup use STP oil will drain right out of the turbo immediately STP is a little thicker and stickier it'll stay in the turbo better before startup
I take the lines off again and oil right before cranking. They are easy to get at.
@@DEBOSSGARAGE that's the right way to do it but most people don't
STP has no actual lubricating properties.
watch the project farm review of STP
Compounds work a little differently than he explained it but in a nutshell.... the compound turbos help each other all the way from idle to redline. If you put a bunch of pressure gauges on that system it's a little different than he explained it
the guys from power driven diesel helped finnegan from roadkill put a diesels in his ramp truck, i think i liked the explanation on that video better
1/4 turn before snap off. And the double wrench trick. Old school knowledge....enjoy watching your clips....no homo!!
Hay Rich, love the videos, I was just wondering what brand sockets you use that are square instead of round like most sets?
could the longer oil feed line go around the other side of the upper turbo to avoid the hot manifold?
you will love AFC live w/max travel kit..no more fuel plates and in cab fueling control !
Still should have a zero or 100 shaped plate in it to prevent rack over travel hang-up (hung rack.)
Again you had me laughing with the talking truck.
The thirteen people who disliked this video you need to seek some medical help.
Loving your work yet again from

I read the other day, tighten till it loosens . Lol.
Righty tighty lefty loosey until righty tighty becomes righty loosey
A marginally mechanically minded mate of mine decided to change diff gears in his old commodore 25 or so years ago. Well he didn't realise the L on the crownwheel bolts meant left handed thread. He sat on the first one with a rattle gun tightening it up until it loosened off. That was a good learning experience for him. He went on to become a good butcher
I just stopped by to complain about the paint!!!! ... The this, the that, the microscopic possibility that someone might see such this'es or that'es....Oh, the humanity!!! Love the build by the way. Glad for the tips and tricks, as the almost exact set-up is going in my old F350... Thanks for all the efforts... You want to piss those complaining about paint, dig out the brush and of lead-based paint and slap some of that on something... You'll really hear the screaming hords...
Have you installed the welch plugs into the side of the block?
Noice
Are you not worried about the short manifold bolts? I've heard people say that longer bolts with sleeves handle the thermal expansion better.
I wonder if you put o rings on a gas v8 block and head you'd get the same effect?
Would it be better to put the 90 oil feed in the spot closer to the exhaust gives more clearance by default
Can you cool the air enough
Wondering if you can get a big enough cooler in the Silverado to cool it
For those exhaust manifold bolts that mount the turbo, could you get a crows foot on it on a torque wrench to torque it?
Crow foot will change the torque reading a bunch. Depending on the angle between the crow foot and the torque wrench.
I've been wanting a valve cover like that. Where'd you source that one from? Great video!
And just tell everybody that the runs and fisheyes are NO CHARGE!
They are in the buses. Any 24V that isn't from a Dodge
I had a 10AN drain on my HX35W and it wouldn't spool right(2001 Cummins in a 2002 Ford), watched a video from turbo lab of america about them not flowing enough oil thus dragging the turbo down and replaced it with a stock style and now it spools perfectly. I'm curious to see what your results will be with 2 of them and those AN drain lines.
The nice thing about this kit is that I am the 10xxx person to put them on. All the testing has been done for me
Does that mean I should do this to my 04 cummins?
What size wheels and tires does the beautiful silveraydo have
Hiya
What would Bison think??
Don't do the coolent bypass, you'll never have heat in the winter . They feed into the heater core . Could always do a separate line up to the top of your thermostat elbow and put a ball valve in it so you can turn it off for the winter .
Or even better Put a thermostat housing at the back of the block and run a separate hose up to the original thermostat elbow and drill and tap the top of thermostat elbow 1/2 npt .
There are coolant bypass with a thermostat built into them.
Best to return bypass flow into the water pump intake flow.
7:19↩ what's that red stuff you spray on that gasket for the oil supply line awesome vid
spray-tack-gasket. Makes the gaskets sticky and seal better.
@@DEBOSSGARAGE Thanks bro
5:00 go get a socket from the reject pile of old tools, weld it to the center of a wrench from the same pile of unsorted tools. do the math on the length beyond the head of the torque wrench... now that bolt is torqued. torque wrench fits the socket and the wrench with the socket welded to it still fits in that tight space...
"do not start stamping wrenches that have square holes in the center to fit a torque wrench, they will only buy them once"
Where are you finding all the old school buses in Ontario??? There are none in my part lol
That top oil line to the primary turbo is bothering me. It should have came around the BACK colder side of the turbo, away from the manifold.....but what do I know.
Hydrogen. Brown's gas. cleans carbon adds extra boost without the fuel lag.
Hey Rich your gloves are dirty. Seriously thanks for that video my hands thank you as well. I found thin work gloves at my home Depot that work. All those toss away nitrile gloves rip when I look at them.
