  • It took five years, but I finally completed my section hike of the New England Trail. It wasn’t easy, this was my first multi-night backpacking trip on the new England Trail. We parked one car at Royalston Falls Parking lot and drove to Farley, MA to begin our three days - two nights trip in Northern Massachusetts. Official camping spots on the New England Trail are limited but the plan was to make the most of the two in this area.

The packs always look so heavy at the beginning especially. Still got some good views before the trees leaf right out. Always enjoy running in to running water and even little falls make it special...but the snow you can keep for now. lol Yikes, hope your partner got feeling better...fortunate to have had you along. Take good care now...Bruce and Otis

Good to hear from you guys! The packs certainly are heavier with three days of food in them. I think my pack weighed about 26 lbs and Joseph's was around 35 lbs when we started. I appreciate your concerns for Joseph and I'm sure he does as well. I don't want to spoil the next episode, but to allay your concerns he is safe.

Hi John. Late on watching and commenting.
Impressed with the scenery on this section.
Sorry to see Joseph having issues, dehydration is not good.
Look forward to more on this section!
Great job as always, you offer excellent narration, impressed with the narration "insert" at the end.
    God Bless!

Ken, life keeps us busy, we watch CZcams to relax and when we have time. I have fallen behind on my weekly schedule. Part of it has been my trip to Hawaii and the other part was installing new carpet in the house. That’s a lot of work. Next video is close to be done. I did a little piece on nutrition and hydration in the video. Hope all is well. Take care

Thanks Ramblers! I’m a little behind, but don’t want to rush the editing on part 2. Hopefully it will be out next week.

@@OutdoorsWithJohnUSA we understand and would vote for not rushing it. We do the same thing and have regret when rushed!

    J. R…..Keeping it real. Great video and commentary. Things happen. I try to drink 1 liter of water every 2 hours while hiking. Also starting with a solid light breakfast of fruit, nuts, and yogurt. All the best.

Sometimes it's hard to remember to drink and eat when you pushing those miles.I have to remember not only to look out for myself but for the entire team

Say it ain't so Joe! Devilish hydration strikes again. Looking forward to the rest of the trip. Will Joe make it? Will John abandon him to the elements and save himself? Drama abound!

It's a cliffhanger for sure. Of course not every trip goes as planned.

Great video...I mean, except for the dehydrated hiker part. Interesting how the temps dropped during the day, it was in the low 20's when we camped at the cabin also, but that was more expected in November! I really like how well you identify all the info I never pay attention to until after the fact. Hoping Joe recovered well for the next days' adventures! Did they install a privy near the cabin yet, or was it still a porta potty?

      @OutdoorsWithJohnUSA  Před rokem +1

Sue, the cabin is still served by a porta-potty. The temps dropped fast and the wind picked up at the front came through. The nice views that come with the higher elevation are exposed and can lead to lower nighttime temps. Some of the things I research in advance and some of it I dig into when I edit the video. I try to make up for my lack of style with some redeeming educational content. Like any good cliffhanger, you'll have to tune in to the next episode to find out how Joseph did.

That's a shame about the dehydration. Seemed like a smart move to leave the pack temporarily and get to camp.

Yes, the style of Joseph's pack made it difficult to cary. We did put a few food items in a small day pack he had to hel lighten the load. I also think if it were less top heavy it would have been easier for both he and I to carry. I took a photos of the location and marked his pack as a waypoint on AllTrails so I could find it in the dark when I returned. I got some bonus miles on that day. LOL
