Hey man! I have a 1988 Suzuki Intruder VS750GL and I think it would be a perfect bike for Chey! She would definitely be able to flat foot this thing and it is so fun! Got mine for 500 bucks and my insurance is 100 a year... Shaft drive... Looks really cool! The guy I bought it from hand painted “Hardly Davidson” on both sides of the tank and I thought it was a nice touch... Only thing is the battery is in a trap door underneath but I put a pigtail so I could hook it up to a battery tender... It’s got a really small tank though... Think it’s a 3.2 gallon... Thing was surprisingly powerful! I think she would love it! If you come across one give it a shot! 😎🤘

For the record.....seen WAY worse engine carnage than Barf Party. Had a Twin Cam Road Glide come in once after Laconia Bike Week. Rear connecting rod broke and bent over. Took out the front rod on the way by. Turned the flywheel assembly into a saw that literally cut the engine cases in half. Took the fuel tank off and you could see the lift through the engine. Also took a chunk out of the transmission case on the way by. That's breakage to be proud of.

My 83 Goldwing is my baby. I bought it in 2020 during Covid. I put my time, money, and love into it. I had to recently replace the head gaskets and such. It was a challenge as it was the most intense engine repair I have ever done. I got it back together and it runs. There are some kinks, but I will get them worked out. I love my Goldwing. I call her the Dirty Pig and she will never be sold. I was asked why I dont just sell it and get something newer. I cant do it. I have an attachment to it like I have never had with any other vehicle.

The FXR pistons look exactly like every old school Triumph piston I have ever had. It didn't matter what shop set them up, same results. The BSA was much better in that regard that is until a two week non stop torrential downpour led to rain running into the velocity stacks locking her up and she was never the same. No more Brit bikes for me after that. My decade of self inflicted pain.

    • @frankmarkovcijr5459

My pistons in my Triumph TR6 lasted damn near forever. I still have a box with brand new pistons and rings that I never used. No I know guys who have hold Pistons bye not keeping the points in check on their bike but evil has electronic ignition so that couldn't have done it. When the bike started to complain to you you should have listened to it and not pushed it till it died.

I know how you feel on working in limited space. What has helped me I made a table out of 4 2x4's with piece plywood on top. Screwed in back edge into wall studs (using door hinges along edge) and ran chain from front corners to wall behind it...that way I can unhook chains and fold out of way when not in use. Where there is a will there is a way.

You should try a hammock. Nothing on the trail is more comfortable. I started using one in preparation for motorcycle trips, now I can't stand a regular bed. It needs to be over 10ft long to be comfortable. The 11 foot Lay-flat Halfmoon, or Onewind hammock is a good choice, both on Amazon.

  • @bigguyonalittleadventure5673

Hi Josh. Don’t know if you’ll see this, but I want to recommend a slight change for your top box setup. Once it’s loaded and off road, those small washers are probably going to tear through that plastic, especially if you add even more weight on top. I would highly suggest putting some sort of plate between the bolts to give you a bigger contact patch on the plastic. Could be eighth inch aluminum or even quarter inch plywood. You just want to spread the pressure across a larger area. Ask me how I know about this. 😉😁

When I did the grom trip, I was over 220lbs, I completely over loaded it with bags, panniers, tent, cooking gear etc etc. The only issue I had, with the exception of th 50mph-ish top speed, was the rear shock being a bit bouncy with all the weight. Proof in a playlist on my channel, 800 miles in 3 days!!! Chey will be absolutely fine

I have had some of my bikes for 40 years. I come across them being unwanted and unloved and I give them a forever home like a stray animal. When they get sick I take care of them just like my dog. I once got a new bike and people said why don't you sell your old bike and I said I got a new dog too I didn't shoot the old one. In this age of instant obsolescence nobody makes a bond with anything anymore everything is temporary you have it for a while you get rid of it and you get something else it's like a refrigerator or any other Appliance but my motorcycles or something else.

Took a while to recall at what point it died, finally when you mentioned St. Helen.
We did a similar autopsy on a friend's 2 stroke jet ski motor. There it went straight through the block. Still don't know how it didn't continue through the fiber glass. Also, after getting a new block and pistons we could never put it back together and went to a local version of ride factory to rebuild it.

Later in life, I got to experience owning and working on HDs.. yes, some things are easier on them no doubt.. others not so much. Over all, I seemed to have to work and do more finicky things on the later, than previous That It's a wash.. just split the Rockets case. Get at it.. it's not as daunting as you presume..

Next time someone suggests that you sell your Rocket 111 suggest to them that they might want to sell one of their children and or significant other.
Also as a professional production welder I just can't understand why you didn't just use the mounting hardware as a template and mark your square tubing while laying it over the uprights and the angle iron on the cross piece. It would have been quicker, easier and much more accurate.

I love these engine disaster stripdown's. After watching countless Harley Davidson disasters, I thought it would be cool to look at some other brands of destroyed engines. Thought I'd look at Kawasaki's, they're cool. Couldn't really find any failures. Tried Suzuki. No, bulletproof. Yamaha, solid. Honda, superior build quality. Triumph, quality build and finish. BMW, same, nearly. Even Ducati can't supply engine failure video's these days. Thank you Harley-Davidson, for flying the flag of engine rebuild video's on every component that you produce.

That was an epic meltdown. The FXR filled its purpose, which was to show us just how far it would survive with nickel-dime repairs right up until it's heart exploded.

My 06 rocket is doing something very similar. Shifting from 1st to 2nd at anything over 3k grinds second and sometimes dumps it into neutral. I'm gonna have to split mine open to upgrade 2nd

Well your right that the bike will be fine with the weight on the bike but as a newer rider who's never ridden a bike with it loaded down. You guys really should ride around town some with the boxes loaded up with close to the weight that you plan on having in them during your adventure especially doing some local off roading before your way out in the middle of nowhere and find the weight is to high to handle off road. That really goes for anyone new to adventure riding, it's supposed to be an adventure not an emergency .

Excellent content shade tree, looking forwards to seeing the fxr come back from the dead for more adventures with you as the mechanical lament configuration is completed and the fxr comes back from the far side to claim your soul once again!
