    ...find out more about the shrimp color line.
    I breed the black color line. For example, Bloody Mary (Red), Blue Diamond (Blue) and Black Sakura (black) can be kept together without the wild colors coming out.
    The offspring are all black/onyx , blue or (bloody mary) red again.

      @@FishKeepingAnswers i do have one question. They are in for 4 days now and are constantly eating on the plants, probably some biofilm. But i put a spirulina wafer in yesterday but they didn’t eat it so i removed it. Is this normal becouse there is enough food for them in the tank? I have a group of bloody mary shrimp by the way, they are juvenille.

    This information is actually incorrect. Shrimp have to carry two copies of the recessive gene for that colour to be displayed. Therefore in your chart, it wouldn’t be 50/50 unless you knew for sure that wild type carried that gene. The chart you showed works for incomplete dominant genes though

    Signed up for the course now! And I've made this youtube-channel for my aquariums only (before I only used my channel for my dogs, but it got more and more aquarium-related videos there so I decided to have one for this topic as well 😁)
    I've just moved to a better apartment, where I can have a few aquariums. I'm planning for 2 or 3 "big" ones, but you've inspired me to have some for shrimp only as well. First step however have to be one of the "big" ones running, because now I have a nano-aquarium for both some small fish and shrimps and that doesn't feel right even though everyone seem happy.

      @FishKeepingAnswers Oh, thank you! ❤️ That Betta is living in the pet store where I work, but I'm thinking about buying him. I think he's stunning. The only thing I'm worried about is whether it will be possible to have any other inhabitants in the same aquarium as him. I would love to put him in a 50L aquarium together with some shrimps and maybe some more fish, but I want everyone to be happy and to survive 😅

    great video on skittles tank and very well explained why they revert to wild type after a bunch of generations. I had by accident a skittles 2.5 gallon tank before, i bought a female green shrimp to breed with my male and the babies were all different colours, i let that colony breed out and got all sorts of different colours. eventually after a while they all reverted to the brown wild type. but skittles tank is very fun to look at indeed! keep up the great work

    Started off in the hobby by buying a set-up off Craigslist - so naturally was sold wild-type neocaridana as “ghost shrimp”. I love them anyway but curious if it’s worth introducing colored shrimp from LFS? FWIW I’ve had two egg hatches and saw at least one blue baby hiding in my moss!

    Hi, quick question about one of your previous video: what aquatic plants should I buy for my 20 gallon aquatic pea puffer fish tank, with ember tetra and cherry shrimp? Also, any lighting I need or specific substrate? How often should I clean my tank with your suggested plants and the help of they cherry shrimp?

    • @NinniAquariums
      @NinniAquariums Před 7 měsíci

      I know you didn't ask me, but I'll reply anyways :p Don't clean it too much or too often. Most times you will do fine with any kind of substrate, as long as it's a layer that's thick enough. Just make sure that if you buy an "active soil", don't put in shrimp or fish the same day. Those types are dangerous for fish/shrimps in the beginning, but really good for plants (however, you don't need them for your plants).
      What I do with my aquariums is that I have a test for checking the water quality and test it about once a week. If everything is fine, you don't need to do water changes or clean the tank. And the more plants you have, the easier it is to maintain a good water quality.
      I don't have lids on my aquariums, so some water disappear, but the only thing I have to do is to refill it a bit now and then. Never change the water. I have a lot of different plants, some growing fast, some growing slow, some low and some tall. And I have floating plants as well. I keep both fish and shrimps. The fish are happy and the shrimps are happy and breeding, so it seems to do well :)

  • @marcioturcoteixeira846
    @marcioturcoteixeira846 Před 5 měsíci +1

    If it's a matter of single allele dominance, wouldn't two brown shrimp also be capable of producing red offspring? With the brown allele being dominant, you can never know whether a brown shrimp is homozygous or heterozygous - and if two heterozygous brown shrimp mate, then there's a good chance of F1 containing homozygous recessive red shrimp.

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Best thing to do, just leave it alone. It will settle and start to grow. If it goes brown, just leave it longer, it will come back. If you want to you can collect it into a small clump and weigh it down under a small rock. Either way, give it time 👍🏻

  • @DogBehaviorGuy

    your explanation of that Punnett square made me sad.
    that square described two heterogenous brown shrimp resulting in 75% brown babies and 25% red babies.

    • @FishKeepingAnswers

      Definitely don’t be sad. Was just trying to offer a simple explanation 👍🏻

    • @DogBehaviorGuy
      @DogBehaviorGuy Před 2 měsíci

      @@FishKeepingAnswers
      Totally understandable, but in its simplicity it was slightly misleading. When you mention that breeding two brown will always yield brown fry, that isn't necessarily true. If both brown parents are heterozygous (one color allele for brown, one for red - I used "heterogenous" originally and that was the wrong word - oops) they'll still appear brown but 25% of their offspring will still be red.
