Good video thanks for sharing
@@MrBruce0777 Thanks
Great video. I just bought my dads old 4100. 1977 i think. I have to do all this myself now. I know its 2 years old but i love it when guys show the real world. Beatin and bangin, dropping sockets, trying not to cuss. Good job.
Thanks! Best of luck with your 4100
I am sure you will love your 5000. I have a 69 Ford 4000 and it is my pride and joy. I drove a 4000 when I was milking cows as a teenager, so it makes sense for me to seek one out. Thanks for the good repair video!
Thanks, since this video I have went all through the tractor, and have been using it for heavy mowing this summer! Check out my other videos....the 5000 has proven to be a very reliable work horse! Love the 60's models 5000, just something about the louvered hood and the rounded fenders make it look like a hot rod haha.
@@marktolman6037 Awesome, I have watched a few more of your videos just now. They have great tips on fixing old stuff up, which is what I am into! Thank you!
@@pseudopetrus Thanks! Hope they can help
Great job and great video. I had to do the same thing on my 4000 about the same time you posted this video. I knew something was up when the top of my tires was rubbing the spindle. My spindle bushings were so worn that the spindles were worn to far to be reused. I ended up getting a burr and pneumatic die grinder and cutting a small groove in my bushings so I could drive them out. I got my spindles from a local tractor parts yard and they included all the bushings plus wheel bearings. Wouldn't you know it, when I pulled the hubs off the inner bearings fell apart in my hand. All new bushings and bearings and the old Ford drives like a champ. I wish I'd found your video before I did mine though, I could have used a few of your techniques and made life a little simpler for me.
Thanks, glad you got some info from the video. When I started working on my 5000, I noticed there weren't any videos on the subject, so I made one. Glad its helped some folks out. Sounds like someone squeezed about every ounce of life out of that steer axle! Good catch on the wheel bearings. It's crazy how metal can wear down to almost nothing!
Good info. My 5030 steering spindle snapped in two so this is invaluable info. I hope I don't have to replace the extension arm, it hasn't been maintained in the 20 years before I got it.
Thanks! Glad it could help!
very cool we had a 5000 back on the farm in the 70s was a good tractor. just got to remember to grease it when i did the oil change
Thanks, definitely! Grease is cheaper than steel
@@marktolman6037 Thank you Sir.
good save on the axle, and thumbs up on the krylon rebuild too
Thank you! Curious, what is it you're calling krylon?
@@marktolman6037 paint I like seeing the effort to save on the parts you've repaired and make it better
Thanks, it's not too much extra to give some paint at the end of a project, but it does look good for a while after
@@marktolman6037 I do the same when I work on my 79 Bronco XLT RANGER from the frame to the diffs they all get some love then they get fresh paint I just like knowing what I've touched and finished
Nice! Makes the project compete! A bit of paint is a good touch
The previous guy about greasing followed strictly the rule of : "I shall not grease a single thing, ever!"
He did not believe in the power of grease! My old man taught me, "Grease is cheaper than steal."

Dude awesome vidya I can appreciate this type of work I do it all the time, good job!!!
Thanks! Got to keep this old iron up and running
I have to do the same thing on my IH 454 somebody had the spindle out and I doubt if there is a thrust bearing and I know the felt seal on top is missing and it moves up and down by a 1/4 inch and the wheel bearing was three turns on the nut loose so thank for a great cideo
Old tractors, new problems! Best of luck.
Very nice. And my ford 5000 need restoration

Good morning
Ilove ford
great info! I'm hoping you have PTO issues (hopefully I'm not jynxing you) so I can see how you fix it so I can do mine...unless you want to work on another 68 Ford gas 5000!
Haha what's yours doing? Slipping, not engaging or engaged all the time? Lol, I'll definitely make a video if I have any issues!
@@marktolman6037 Engaged all the time. Had the clutch pack replaced last year which fixed it for a week or two.

My friend good job .sorry to ask from where you get all the new part?
Thanks! I've used All State Ag (Tractot Parts ASAP), Yesterdays Tractor and Steiner Tractor
The bearing is loose on its housing
The bearing should be firmly secured
I couldn’t take the cold..
You kind of forget about it after a while haha

Great Video!! Doing the same repair on my 4000. Where did you source your parts?
Most parts came from All State Ag (Tractor Parts ASAP), and Yesterday's Tractor. Good luck with your axle rebuild!
You can also check out Steiner. They send a nice printed catalog in the mail if you request it.
My Ford 5000 tractor bearings were almost non existent. My neighbor is doing my spindle repair. With new bearings etc
Those bearings see alot of wear and movement
@@marktolman6037 is it possible to reuse the original handle on a new valve body for the remotes rear hydraulics
I dont see why not...as long as it fits! You could clean it up and repaint it..
Do you have a foot pedal accelerator on that tractor?
No, this one with the gas engine did not have one..
